v1.10 Patch Notes

Hi all,

It hasn't been that long since 1.09 came out, but it introduced a few issues that needed swift correction (especially with the attention that the Humble Indie Bundle 9 brought to FEZ!), so I just pushed 1.10 to Steam (Windows only) to address those and a few more things :

  • Fix issue with Gomez being launched in the air in the connective rails industrial level

  • Removed stray collision tile in bell tower level

  • Added launch option for the game not to pause when exiting focus state

  • Fix issues with disabling Steamworks via the launch option (since 1.09)

  • Fix for issue with brightness control and the CMY cave (since 1.09)

  • Fixed intermittent hang while loading the final cutscene (since 1.08)

Ethan Lee, who ported FEZ to Mac OS X and Linux, is also working tirelessly on an update for those platforms, which will include the fixes above and the problems that were reported for OSX/Linux in particular.

Thanks!

  • I’m confused
I'm running the mac port and I'm experiencing some weird rendering issues where things are layering incorrectly or placed in the wrong locations, most noticeable in houses:

The hit boxes for these objects are placed correctly, so their locations are memorize-able and is playable but extremely confusing and tedious. This happens everywhere I've been able to navigate to so far, since doors aren't rendering correctly either.

  • I’m still having an issue
vsync tearing/glitches issue is still there on win7/64. the one where, if fps go above 60 and it regularly does, the game becomes stuttery and there's visible tearing and even graphical glitches.

  • Hello!
So, out of the blue, can't run FEZ anymore. That's after about a month of not playing. The version is 1.10. I don't remember making any significant changes to my system (Win7, 64bit, Soundblaster 5.1 LIve!), but it could be something on my end.

    Here's the debug log:

(13:29:03.050) [OpenAL] OpenTK.Audio.AudioContextException: The audio context could not be created with the specified parameters.

    [EDIT]
Found a solution (further down). Seems like a driver issue (using kX project drivers). Won't let me use the Master Mixer for some reason.

[EDIT 2] Just noticed that the Master Mixer is outputting 8 channels while the other outputs only output 2. All outputs are running in 16-bit, 48kHz. This is probably the not so significant change I did to the system, go from one output to Master Mixer (offers higher loudness). Problem solved I guess.

I don't know what the problem is and I haven't had it myself, but I have had problems with sound not being able to be initialized in games in the past. Someone was saying e.g. sound stopped working in YouTube videos, which suggests the problem might be related to Fez (or OpenAL) trying to grab exclusive control of the sound (and sometimes failing) or the format being wrong...

If you're willing, please try this out:

Go to your speaker icon in your systray, right-click and choose Playback devices. Then click on your default playback device (has a green tick) and click Properties. (If you don't think the default playback device looks right or you have other choices that make sense, try clicking one of them and choosing Set Default and retrying Fez first).

For each playback device that makes sense to try Fez on to you:

In the properties dialog, click the Advanced tab. There's options for Default Format and Exclusive Mode.

What does it say for Default Format for you guys? For me, I use 16-bit 44100 Hz, and Fez works for me. Those of you with studio-like sound cards should definitely have a look here, as you may be operating at 48kHz or even 96kHz.

What are the Exclusive Mode options ticked as? For me, both are ticked (allow applications to take exclusive control of this device, give exclusive mode applications priority), but it is worth trying all combinations of options.

If Fez really is trying to take exclusive control of the sound card (it probably isn't), closing all programs that could possibly use sound before trying to launch Fez would be a good idea. e.g. close youtube, any web pages with flash on, probably your web browser to be safe, any media players, any other games, anything. May or may not help.

    Good luck!
