Hi, please add more than 5 pages, I track over 5 different topics (each with their own feed) and 5 is too few to organize them properly.

Great idea. It's odd to me that Pulse IPad only allows 5 pages. It must be a fixed memory strategy used in objective C. Just a guess.

Hello,

Pulse only supports five pages (think about having to scroll through a ton of sources in order to read the one that you want!). Due to this fact, we are working on the best way to expand beyond 5 pages. Do you have any recommendations? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Consider the original 5 pages as tabs. Each page holds 5 tabs. Allow us to scroll though additional pages of five tabs.. As for sorting through content, by having more tabs/ pages, we can put fewer feeds in each tab. I'd rather have multiple pages with 5 tabs each with a limit of 10 feeds per tab. So if you have a page now called Tech news, and it has 30 feeds, it will be come tech news 1,2, and 3 but all on one page.

It is certaily NOT a good idea to reduce the number of feeds per page. Just leave it as is, but add more pages.
I don't see the problem: pages tab labels could just horizontally scroll, just as the news do.

Benjamin, my reasoning behind what I said was this. The solution of more pages is purely obvious. But they have not done that. Why? Did anyone ask why? I assumed, based on Ramsey's reply that there may be memory concerns with 30 feeds per page. That's why I came up with the solution I did.

Ramsey, could you tell us why adding 2 or 3 more pages is not a viable solution at this time, even if it was to hold us over until more could be done?

I think the best way would be to keep it all flat hierarchy and just have more than 5 pages on the same level. so instead of just 5, maybe we could have 7 or 9?

Not sure why adding more pages is a problem, why not make the tab bar scrollable like each news feed.

I don't think the app should be responsible for limiting the amount of categories i can have

I have to second that. This is a wonderfully designed app with only one big flaw and that is the page limit.

I'd like more pages and more per page personally. Vertical scrolling is a breeze on the iPhone so you can afford to allow a lot more in a column.

Here's another idea - mirroring the BBC News app... How about a MAIN page which has rows named with the names of your Pages (eg Design, Tech, Art...) and each row grabs the latest couple from each feed in the other pages - kind of an overview page for when you aren't bothered about digging deeper into your feeds?

On a related note, the BBC's sideways scrolling algorithm has a much more snappy and accurate feel to it...

Great app! Thank you for making it! I've fallen in love with RSS feeds again as a result!

Take a look how the "reeder" app for iPad just syncs the google reader folders/tags. That would be perfect

Hi Peter,

Great tip. We'll make sure to update our FAQs so users know they can have a max of 5 pages right now. On another note, we have increased the amount of feeds you can have. Earlier this year, users could have 25 feeds and in the summer, we increased it to 60. We hope to continue adding more for users.

Thanks again for the tip!

Best,
Karen

At least 8 pages are a must for this app, ideally 10-12. I agree that this is the only major flaw in this app, and it seems like such an easy one to address.

To give you some idea of my use, I prefer to read two regional newspapers each morning, skim two more if I have time, then read two business newspapers later in the day. Right now, I mostly do this on my Kindle Fire, which is what introduced me to Pulse.

However, the way these newspapers have structured their multiple feeds, I need one page for each to get a good overview of the content. My New York Times page includes the World, U.S., Regional, Business, Economy, Technology, and Politics feeds. In turn, even these six newspapers exceed the limits of Pulse.

I understand the interface concern, but I think it is fine the way it is. Users will eliminate pages on their own if they feel it is getting out of control.

Hari Karam Singh's suggestion, above, for a home page with a list view of pages is a good one. It might be helpful to add the ability to swipe from page to page (perhaps by swiping on the title/navigation header area), as it's easy to miss when trying to tap on the page names. The pagination arrows at the bottom would then no longer be necessary.

On a side note, I pull these feeds from Google Reader. It would be great if it captured the feed names I have assigned in Google Reader so that I don't have to sort through an alphabetical list of whatever arbitrary naming conventions the websites assigned them or rename them once I've added them.

Hi!

Congrats on your new Kindle Fire and thanks for sharing your reading experience. We definitely have plans to add more pages and sources to Pulse because of super users like you. We have a limited bandwidth because of our small size (see our team here http://www.pulse.me/about/#/team) but this is a high priority for us.

We hope you continue to enjoy Pulse and if there are other elements you would like to see improved, please let us know.

Best,
Karen

It does seem a little ridiculous. This isn't the only thread on this subject, either. It's a great app and could be the reader of choice, but the usefulness is severely handicapped by the page limit.

@Benjamin and @Twawatson: We are definitely working on it. When we started Pulse about 18 months ago, there was 1 page with 12 sources and then we grew to 20 sources and now we're at 5 pages with 60 sources. Growth has been occurring and we hope to continue to grow for our users.

We are sorry if progress feels a bit slow but we are doing our best to develop Pulse and add other useful features (source syncing and sharing). If you have any more thoughts you'd like to share, please do. The team loves to hear from users. We draw our inspiration from the community and we hope to continue to do this.

Best,
Karen

Hi Scott,

I'm happy to shed more light on this.

When Pulse started, users only had one page and could add a total of 12 sources to the page. That was when it was created by two individuals for a design school project. As Pulse grew, we added more features such as sharing integration (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and more pages to allow 20 sources. Earlier in 2011, we ramped up to 5 pages with 60 sources total. Also, in this year we added source syncing and introduced Pulse to other platforms such as Windows Phone 7 and tailored version to devices like the Kindle Fire.

Adding more pages is definitely a priority but as a small company with an enthusiastic user base, we have many features we're balancing. I hope you'll understand that we value our users' opinions because our track record demonstrates we've added features based on user input.

We do understand that waiting is difficult but we appreciate your support and input thus far and we hope you can continue to support us. If you'd like to share more specific comments, feel free to send me an email at feedback@alphonsolabs.com and I'll be happy to chat.

Best,
Karen

Karen, this is becoming a canned response. I don't mean to dwell on the past, but for over a year now we've asked for more page, even offered to buy a pro version of the app that had more pages. Alphonso labs is missing a great opportunity.

You say you add features based on user input but it's clear that this feature, more pages, seems to get more feedback than any other.

Clearly there is some fundamental problem with the app if more pages is not something that could have been addressed by now.

It's time to step up before someone else writes a similar app that addresses all our needs and steals your thunder.

Sorry for the harsh tone, but I rely on your app daily, and as my reading list grows, the usefulness of your app fades.

Why that much dazzle around such a minor issue? From the technical point of view it should be no problem. And it would not corrupt the UI to simply double the pages for full iPad landscape and integrate the turning iOS options wheel for every other viewing option. Or you could only show the active page when not in full landscape and show the others only after tapping on the page title. So there is no excuse for this much-demanded feature to not be implemented for one year!

Oh. I thought it was only 5 pages on a free version, couldn't find a "pro" version I could buy, googled the issue and here I am. I think I'll stick with Reeder until this is fixed (if indeed it ever is).
