QWin 2017: Can't download any banking data

For the last few years I have used Quicken 2014. I was never able to download anything without it crashing. I could get one account to download if went through the download-crash process twice. I could get no other accounts to download. If I tried One Step update it immediately crashed. Now I have purchased Quicken 2017 and it is doing the same thing. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I tried all the updates before (though that was very difficult, since it crashed when I tried to update it directly.)

Hi S,

I'm sorry for the trouble you are having downloading form your financial institutions. To help us provide the most appropriate response, please let us know which Quicken 2017 product (QWin or QMac) you are using. Also, are you using the US version of Quicken or Quicken Canada?

Thanks,
Dave

I'm unable to download transactions from Meriwest Credit Union and Chase Bank on both 2014 and 2017 US Quicken for Windows. It doesn't crash. It just says "0 transactions available".

Any ideas?

When I try to install the Mondo patch, it fails, saying it can't connect to the server. My connection is fine.

Check your firewall settings and review the log file(s) it creates for any denied access messages. If you have to go through a corporate firewall, contact your IT support person to give you proper access.

I am not a corporate user--just someone who expects programs to work at home. Quicken is on the approved list for the firewall. I see no log. When I click One Step update the whole program crashes and closes. That doesn't seem like the problem is firewall/permissions related. Same problem with the last version.

I've seen another report about someone having problems downloading patch files from Quicken. That user said, that it didn't work using MS Edge, but switching to Internet Explorer allowed the file to download.
You may want to try this with the Mondo patch file download.
Download and save it to disk first, then run the downloaded file.

After you get the Mondo Patch file successfully installed, validate your Quicken data file. All this crashing may have damaged the file.

This issue has been present for several months now.  I am using Quicken Deluxe 2017 and the only "workaround" (far from an elegant workaround) is to deactivate online access for every one of your accounts (do this within Quicken) and then re-activate at least one account.  The next time you connect, Quicken will recognize all of your bank accounts (for me at Wells Fargo) and your transactions will be downloaded.  This only works once and you have go through this ridiculous process all over again the next time you want to download transactions from your financial institution.  Sadly, I am in the market for new financial software since Quicken has not made any progress in getting this fixed for several months.

Mondo Patch changed nothing. John, I can't even get close to doing that. I'm trying to open the Account List and it is a blank popup. If I try anything with the word "online" in it--Online Center, etc.--it immediately crashes.

Just managed to open one of the accounts settings. Unchecked online access and bingo, it crashed and shut down.

I'm going to theorize that you've got a corrupted program installation (and, possibly corrupt data also).
To remedy this, you need to do a QCleanUI uninstall (a Win uninstall isn't sufficient) and then re-install Q.  https://www.quicken.com/support/using-qcleanui-uninstall-quicken

This won't remove your data ... only your Q program.  You can, if you wish, take a backup before performing the QCleanUI process.

Once again, upgrading to a new year version of Quicken rarely solves any problem you had with an earlier version.  In your case, you couldn't get Quicken 2014 to download without it crashing...so upgrading to Quicken 2017 didn't resolve that issue.

Unfortunately, that is usually the norm.

Just went through the QCleanUI thing...all of it, and nothing has improved. Still crashes with any kind of download attempt.

Have you tried NOT using your current Quicken data file and starting a completely new Quicken file, using stock categories...and then adding one of your downloadable accounts and see what happens then?

Because if you can do that, then your data is corrupted...not the Quicken software.
