Cap One made some changes to their sites recently that impacted our customers in their Quicken files. While the majority of those problems have been resolved, the One Time Passcode (OTP) prompt is still affecting some customers.

We have reported this to the Financial Data Services team along with some logs and info we've collected, so they can get the final piece of this issue resolved.

What we have found to work is to open a web browser on the computer where Quicken is installed and go to the Cap One Credit Card website, log in and provide any OTP that may be requested, then log out of the site and try again in Quicken immediately. You may still be prompted for the OTP, but you should only have to provide it once, this time.

This suggestion didn't work for me.  I still have to deal with the OTP's extra steps.  VERY frustrating.

This is still broken and incredibly frustrating that it is taking so long to fix. Get it together now please. The "fix" in your message is a complete farce.

The OTP is good for only 60 minutes.  Tomorrow you will have to go through the same OTP procedure.

I'm also having this problem.   I followed the deactivation/activation process outlined in a previous post and that fixed it for a couple days but the problem has now returned.  Quicken Premier 2016 R10.

I deactivated but when re-activate Quicken says have to go to site and sign some popup thing.  I log in fine but there is no popup or anything to send code - just see my transactions.   I manually downloaded transactions for last 30 days and would up having to delete manually lots of duplicates.  Guess you have to pick last date got downloads on to do manually untill we can get downloads via quicken.

Same thing, except it hangs the app completely for me during resetting or de/reactivation. This has been a waste of money.

I at least for now got it working.  I had never set up an e-mail address just a phone since I wanted paper statements mailed.  After adding my e-mail I got the code.  1st time tried to reactivate got message found the account by could not determine type and to wait a few days.  On 2nd attempt send code again and properly downloaded latest without duplicates into Quicken.  Who knows if this will hold.

Where did you set up the email address? Capital One or somewhere within Quicken?

In the Capital One profile on their site.  I didn't realize had not set up before and that cured the problem of getting code and download.  It has been about a week now and no problems getting Quicken to update

I don't have a clue what this means.  My email address is set up with Capital One as always and I still have the problem.  I don't understand this comment.

If your e-mail is set up in your Cap One website profile than that isn't the issue.  I had no idea my e-mail was not set up when I first enrolled but to my surprise it wasn't.   In my case that solved all my downloading automatically of new transaction issue.

Using Q16 with W10 - I can't update or deactivate the account.  Tried to SuperValidate and all a waste of time.  I can manually log into Capital One and see my information, but Quicken won't update...tried to reset, nothing works.

I have talked with Capital One tech support on 2 different occasions.  There is no help for this problem.  They say the are working on it but frankly I don't see a solution within Quicken, for handling a 2 stage login that requires Quicken to dial, in to get a "one time" 6 digit code.  Life is to short (I'm 74) to wait for a fix.  I hate to do it but I have started using my backup Chase Freedom card.  Capital One is like all of the card companies today.  They are snake bit with their security and they want to CYA.  The propeller heads didn't think this through.
Several weeks ago, I deactivated and reactivated my C1 account in Quicken.  That allowed me to get the one-time code sent to my mobile phone.  Prior to that, it said it sent a code but  I never received one.  I was able to download my transactions after inserting the one time code then.  A few days later I received the request for the one time code again.  This time I just canceled the request in Quicken and the C1 download proceeded to process without error.  So now, whenever I receive the request for the code (usually a few times per week), I cancel the request.  Most of the time, the code is not requested.  However, the request appears to be random.

I still get the code request when quicken attempts to load transactions. Strangely when I log on to C1 direct I don't need the code. Are they trying to punish quicken for some reason? Neither Quicken nor Cap 1 seem to want to talk about it.

I wonder if this is related to IP addresses from Quicken servers?  Could multiple IP addresses invoke Capital One security verifications?

I thought about that earlier and used my phone for a hotspot to change the IP address. No code was asked for on my log-in to Cap 1.

It seems like every time someone fixes one thing in the name of security update it messes up 5 or 6 more.

I don't know if this is just a fluke but I removed C1 from the One Step process.  For the last 3 days I have not had any problems updating my C1 account when I do it by itself.  Frankly I think it's a fluke but so far it works.

I am having the same problem in 2017 Deluxe R4.  Spent a couple of hours chatting with a Q support rep. He gave me this work around:
  1. Cancel the update requesting the OTP.
  2. Go to Tools >> Online Center
  3. Select the C1 account in the drop down
  4. Hold CRTL and click on Contact Info.  This pops up the Refresh Online Transaction Information window.
  5. Select the C1 account again from the dropdown.  Check the boxes next to "Financial Institution Branding and Profile" and the "Download FI List" then click Refresh
  6. Click Update/Send in the Online Center window.  This should give you the One Step Update window for your C1 account.
  7. Click Update Now to do the One-Step Update.
After I do this, I can do maybe one or two updates before getting prompted for the OTP, but every time I hit the OTP, this works for me.  It's not great, but it's a lot easier than doing a manual update or deactivating/reactivating.
Once I was able to get a successful transaction download, I cancel the OTP request and the download continues and Quicken reports successful processing.

I have been using Quicken since 1986 - long time user.   I too cannot sync from Capital One into Quicken.  (I run Quicken 2017, R6, on W10 under Parallels 11 on a MAC because the MAC version of Quicken stinks compared to Q4W).   I have been hearing the same story for MONTHS about fixing this Capital One issue  - "we're working it."  The delay is totally unacceptable.  I, too, followed the deactivate/activate path - twice!  It's no fun downloading 90 days of txns and then accepting or deleting them all (there's also no mass-delete function which could be helpful)

So - I gave up on waiting for Capital One and Quicken to fix this problem.  Instead - I log into my Capital One account, do a quick download of a .QFX file for the last 2 days' transactions.  With Quicken open, then, in File Explorer, I go to my download folder and double-click on the downloaded .QFX file (it's even dated) and that drops the downloaded txns into Quicken just as though Quicken sync'ed with CapOne.  Works like a champ - EVERYTIME!  Still - Quicken - you gotta fix things with CapOne.  It's a good thing I only have to do this for one credit card.

I thought this had gone away about a month ago, but today it came back for the 1st time in a while. This doesn't happen with Banktivity BTW, so it's a Quicken thing, not a Cap One thing. Using Quicken 2017 R6, on Windows 10.

Successfully linked 3 Capital One Accounts with Quicken 2017 Home and Business.
Capital One Credit card was not so good. After 4 cycles of a)sign into my Intuit Account, b)get an authorization code, c) enter same, d) QUICKEN shuts down!!!
I am trying to help a client out. I am becoming ADVERSE to Intuit and would NEVER have a Capital One Account.

I just got a Capital One credit card. Every time I run the One Step Update in Quicken 2017, if there are any Capital One transactions to download, I get the prompt to obtain and enter a one-tine code.

I contacted Capital One on-line support. The indicated that this issue was supposed to be resolved and tried to contact Quicken support while I was on hold but was unable to reach anyone in a reasonable amount of time.

This is a pain the butt. Not sure where the issue lies but it needs to be fixed!

Yep. No kidding. This needs to be fixed once and for all. The fix - which I've done twice now - ends up downloading the prior 3 months of charges - which you then have to accept or somehow process - and that takes way too much time. Not gonna do that again - and again and again. The work around that I use is to download the desired transaction range directly from CapOne . That creates a file which I then double click to open. That automatically loads them into my Cap One Quicken account just as though they were downloaded through the one-step update process . Then I go ahead and accept them as normal. It's a good work around, but no excuse for quicken to continue to fail to fix the issue.
