I've got two Quicken accounts with about 15 years of data. SEI recently switched from web connect downloads to Direct Connect downloads. It's not obvious to me how to edit my accounts to switch from web connect to Direct Connect. Can someone please help me with the instructions on how to make this switch. Thanks.

I'm using Quicken Premier for Windows 2016 on a windows 10 machine.

Try deactivating, and re-activating the pertinent accounts.
1) Take a backup, just in case
2) TOOLS, Account List, Edit across from one of the pertinent accounts.  Click Online Services and Deactivate.  Repeat this step for all impacted accounts
3) Exit Q, restart Q.
4) TOOLS, Account List, Edit, Online Services, Activate.

When Q asks how you want to associate the online account with the account in Q, be SURE to select LINK (NOT, the default Add).  Repeat as necessary.

Hi @ shelquis ,

Open Quicken. Click on the Registers, one at a time. Open the Register to be converted from Web Connect to Direct Connect.
Click on the Top Gear in the Register Window, also called Actions. Click on Account Overview.
Scroll down and click Change Online Services. Click on Deactivate. Answer / Click Yes to Question.

Now click Set up now and be sure to select the correct Bank and Connection.

And be sure to link to the existing Register.

Do the same for your other Register, too.

Make sure that you are running R 8 or R 10.

OK thecreator, I tried to make the changes by following NotACPA's instructions, but ran into a problem. When I came back to send him a reply describing my problem, I saw your reply. I followed your instructions, and got to the same point and had the same problem that I had when following NotACPA's instructions. OK, here's the problem I ran into with both approaches, and I am running R8.

After clicking the Set Up Now box, the first screen I get asks for a name to be used for this account. When I type in the account I'm trying to change, I get the response that that name is already in use. Well, duh, I know that. I didn't want to risk creating a new, second account and them having to somehow reconcile them, so I just cancelled out. Hopefully, one or both of you can help me proceed from the Set Up Now button. I've got the online services deactivated for both accounts. Thanks.

Hi @ shelquis ,

What is the Full Name of your Bank? I have Quicken 2016 Home & Business R 8 to see if I can guide you?

Hi @ shelquis ,

The Website took me to: http://www.seic.com/enUS/index.htm

And when I entered SEI into Quicken, it gave me:

If this is your Bank, then they did not tell Quicken, that they have Direct Connect available.

Oh, by the way, Quicken 2017, gives the same exact choices.

Sorry, it's not a bank, it's a brokerage where I have a couple of IRA's. Here's what I get when I try to add an IRA (but I don't want to add a new one, I want to change the one's I've got from web connect to direct connect.

Hi @ shelquis ,

I got the same screen you posted. After you enter your information, you will see a screen where you can add a New Register or link to an existing Register, which is what you want to do.

After you close the process, go back to Account Overview, then Account Details and see what Connection Method, Quicken assigned to the Register.

I don't have a Brokerage Account, but uploaded PayPal Credit so you can see where to look.

Well, a couple of problems. I put in my credentials and clicked on connect. I got an OL-294-A error.

Perhaps even worse than that, I realized I may have a mess on my hands when I do get it set up to Direct Connect. I have one set of credentials which open up the SEI website and it shows both of my accounts. The two accounts are completely separate accounts, but are linked for display and easy access. But I'm afraid that when I download from SEI, it will download both IRA accounts into one or both of my Quicken accounts. Have you seen this kind of a problem before? Do you have suggestions for how to handle it. My only thought is to get SEI to give me two separate AccessMyAccount accounts, so I can have separate credentials to associate with the respective Quicken accounts. Got any other/better suggestions?

Do you have both IRA accounts set up in Q?  Do they have the same Login info?
If so, enable either one for download, and the other should be enabled also.
When Q asks how to associate the account at SEI with Q, be SURE to select Link and the correct account.

Q will then keep them separate.  I have 5 accounts at Fidelity, and they're all completely separate in Q.

If they don't have the same Login info, then you'll have to enable the 2nd one separately ... or not at all.  Your choice.

OH, and I've confirmed that, at least in Q2017, your accounts should be eligible for Direct Connect.

Hey NotACPA. Your comment about your 5 separate accounts being downloaded into the correct Q account gives me some hope. Do you access all 5 of them through a single Fidelity website with a single set of credentials, or do you have separate credentials to access each of them?

I have 2 quicken IRA accounts. I log onto SEI with a single set of credentials and it shows me both  accounts. I hope you're telling me that by having each IRA account number included in each Q account, that quicken will download all the data from both IRA accounts and sort it to the correct account based on the account number which was included in each Q account setup.

I have documentation from SEI stating that Direct Connection requires Q16 or newer.

Hi @ shelquis ,

All Quicken Registers must be Deactivated, before you can add any Accounts back in as Direct Connect.Connection.

In other words, Deactivate the First Register. Close it. Now move over to the Second Register. Deactivate it. Close it.

Now, click on File, then New Quicken File. Dot New Quicken Account.
Click on Brokerage.Enter SEI. Click on your Brokerage.
Enter User Name and Password Check Save this Password. Click Connect.
It should find your two Accounts. Link them to the correct existing Register.

When Done, check Account Details to check the Connection Type.

Hi thecreator. I've deactivated both my IRA's with SEI, so the first part of your instructions are taken care of.

Now, the second part is where I get lost. When I click on File, then New Quicken file, it sends me to a windows explorer page where I'm supposed to give the new file a name, I assume you meant "Not" instead of "Dot". At any rate, I don't get a menu to click on Brokerage. Is that something I would have gotten had I created a new file in explorer? I don't understand why I should be creating a new file. What's this new file supposed to be for, and what should I call it, if that's what I'm supposed to be doing. Does it ever get used for anything?

I notice that when I go to my account list, in each of my two IRA's, is a link to "Activate Downloads". When I click on one of those two links, it asks for a new account name. I didn't provide a new account name because I don't want a new account, I just want to change the online services for my two existing IRA's. That seems really strange to me, since the link I originally clicked was associated with a specific account, why would it be asking for a new account name?

Hope that wasn't too many questions for one post. I appreciate your help.

Why are you trying to create a new Q file?
Take a backup.
DEactivate both of your SEI brokerage accounts from download into Q.
Exit Q. Restart Q
Edit one of the accounts to clear out all of the SEI identifying info.  Brokerage name, login ID, and account number in particular.
Do the same to the other account.
Then re-activate either of the accounts. (The other will be included automatically).
When Q asks how you want to associate the online SEI account with Q, be SURE to select Link ... NOT the default ADD.

And, yes, all 5 Fidelity accounts are accessed thru a single logon ID and Pwd.

Hi to both NotACPA and thecreator. Thanks for your help. I had a very frustrating time trying to get my Direct Connect set up with SEI this past weekend. I was finally able to get hold of SEI's Tech Support today. They tell me that the Direct Connect has not yet been released. Now that's contrary to what I had been told by their Tech Support group last week. So I thanked them for my wasted weekend. Sorry, I'm still venting. I do want you both to know that I appreciate your help, and I'm confident that whenever they release Direct Connect, I'll be able to get connected thanks to all the time you both spent with me. Thanks.

Jennifer, I don't know why you're having problems, but by following the instructions  above I was able to connect to SEI via DirectConnect after it was finally released. My problem initially was that I was trying to DirectConnect before they actually rolled it out. You might try calling or contacting SEI Web Support. Good luck.

Hi shelquis.  Thank you for the information.  when I follow the directions for the new brokerage account above, it doesn't work.  Did you have to contact SEI to have them do something on their end to make it work?

Many financial institutions require that you call their Online Tech Support to activate their Direct Connect offering.  Often times you can turn Direct Connect on yourself by going to your account at the FI's website and activating it there yourself somehow.  Probably easiest is to just call and have FI activate and  or confirm it is activated.

With some FI's you cannot actually use the Direct Connect connectivity until 8- 24 hrs. after FI activates it.

No Jennifer, I don't think I had to, but I did, and they explained that I needed to wait a few days til they released DirectConnect. After a few days I just followed the instructions provided above and got connected. No changes were required on their end.
