I think the OP was asking how to make check numbers display in the Category Summary report.

Answer: you can't. Check numbers are not displayed in the Category Summary report.

However, you may be able to accomplish what you want right in the register(s):

1) Select a register or group register in the sidebar and click Transactions

2) Adjust the filters to select the timeframe, transaction type and status you want

3) Optionally limit the transactions by entering text in the search box. Click the magnifying glass if you only want to search a single column.

4) Show or hide the columns you want/don't want to appear in the report (menu View > Columns)

5) Click menu File > Print

6) In the pane that appears, select Format As: Category Detail. Check or uncheck Include Scheduled Transactions. Click OK.

7) When the print dialog comes up, you can either print the report, or open it as a PDF file by clicking the PDF menu in the lower left corner and choosing Open PDF in Preview.

I just played around with your inputs above..works pretty good . Your point is well taken i.e. using the transaction registers to customize reports. There are lots that can be gleamed by working in the transaction registers. The reports are very clean , I myself do not print if I can help it..But if I need the report I can save as pdf or just view it in viewer.

Thank you for the replies. I guess I needed to be a bit more specific. I need to have it as a cvs file so I can manipulate the data for some excel support files. I know previous versions had a very nice customized report option that I could include the check numbers, but this doesn't.
I found a work around to get it into a csv file, but it's pretty painful.
I hope they put back a truly customizable report option, the ones available are very limited. Thank you again.

Mary did you export the category report into a CSV & work from there? I played with a few custom reports using the transactions registers, showing check numbers but could not get it to export into a CSV file

Yes, but as I said, it was somewhat painful.  It was a select (for the time frame I needed) and copy process.
But it worked. I went ahead and deleted the colums I didn't need and was able to get my spreadsheet started.
I just hope and pray they bring back the the nice robust report feature they've had in the past. I just don't understand taking away a good option/feature.
I'm sure no one complained about having too many options.... :-)

Mary... Don't use the Category Summary report. Instead, use the exact same process I outlined above for printing the register, except when you get to Step 5, click menu File > Export > Transactions to CSV. You can add in any columns you want included as mentioned in Step 4.

This will give you exactly what you're looking for.

BTW, it is not a matter of taking out the reporting features that were in older versions of Quicken Mac. Since the current versions were built from the ground up, it is a matter of re-implementing all the old features as resources permit. It's getting there, slowly but surely.
