Very simple. It should be my choice when I update quicken to a new version or release. Not Intuits. How do I stop quicken from automatically installing updates?

Hi @ ericweiner ,

You can't. It is no longer Intuit, but Quicken, Inc, its own Company.

It is automatically updating, because Quicken made changes and without applying the Update, you start to have problems.

One might argue that people start to have problems when they auto update. It should not be up to quicken.

Frankly I agree that this should be up to the individual but thecreater is right, Quicken does not provide that capability.

I also agree. Perhaps this should be escalated to the developers.

HI @ Prickly Pam ,

> I also agree. Perhaps this should be escalated to the developers.

It was the Developers and Programmers that made the changes. Yes, you can block the Update as mshiggins, suggests, but know this, as Quicken makes changes to its servers, it is basing its changes on the latest Updates.

So, you can start to have problems, because you haven't upgraded to the latest R#.

And it doesn't take long for the Update to be installed.

Save the lecture. People could also not have problems by skipping updates. My experience, Quicken does not fix things in a timely fashion and most functionality remains the same from yearly release to yearly release.

I just dislike the fact that software is trying to do more and more "for" me. It's like when you're doing a presentation in front of a group and all of a sudden Windows commandeers your PC and decides it's going to install an update. And makes you look like an incompetent because the group you are presenting to is not computer literate. Or when "Cortana" wants to "help" me. I told Cortana to stop and she said she can't because she's built in. I was programming in the days of Assembler language when I manipulated bits. I don't need this "help." Just let me work. /rant

You can prevent updates by turning on Windows UAC. Then when Quicken tries to install an update, Windows will ask you if it's ok. Just say no.

Doesn't work for me. I am using Quicken 2012 and tried this in Windows 10 settings, No Windows Request if OK. I reduced the Updates to once a week and have to correct  the Currency Rates Update. The Update occurs on boot up after the scheduled Update automatically. Currency updates on a non-historical basis which skews my records. I refuse to upgrade despite a couple of long attempts as the later software does not allow for large data files.
Any further comments appreciated which would assist.

You sound like you are talking about downloads of transactions or pricing data. That is not the topic of this post. This post is about stopping patches from being applied. I recommend you start a new discussion for your issue.
