Quicken 2016 One Step update won't download Wells Fargo

I have been using Quicken for Windows for years. When I upgraded to Quicken 2016, my one step download quit working just for my bank accounts. I have deactivated the accounts and re-activated, but it still won't work. I can go to the bank homepage and download from the bank to Quicken fine, but one step shows an error in the Quicken server. Any suggestions?

David I'm having the same problem and it's driving me insane. I've tried everything with the exception of deletion the account and adding it again which I don't really want to do because I don't want duplicate transactions downloaded.  Can someone please help us.  Thanks!

I was told by a Quicken "expert" that WF is not using "web connect" anymore. wrong wrong wrong.  I called Wells Fargo and they said they are still connecting with web connect and low and behold it started downloading the info into my Quicken.
The problem was with WF's server having problems and is working intermittingly.

I sent you a reply by email, but I'm not sure you got it. I changed the WF Bank accounts from web to direct and it works fine now. WF was charging me $3/mo for web. I don't know what they are going to charge me now. If it is too much, I will go back to manually downloading from bank website.

Wells Fargo charges $3.00 for Direct Connect only, Web Connect is free. If you really were using Web Connect and paying $3.00/month you've been screwed.

Mine is direct connect and never works right. I've given up trying... I just download from WF to Quicken... always works. PS- I've had this issue on and off for may 5 years. I'm done trying... Thanks for your notes thought David.

Talked to WF and they still prefer to use the free web connect but are having a server problem at this time.

Direct Connect costs $3.00, the 11.95 must be a gratuity for such wonderful service you're getting.

Been having this problems for at least 1 month if not two. I've disabled the web connect setup and re-set it up. All goes well. No new transactions download. I was on phone support for about 1 hour, deleted quicken appdata files, no good. Phone support is useless.

I'm using Quicken 2016 for my Mac.  Since Nov 14, 2016 I have been trying numerous times to download transactions from 7 Wells Fargo accounts.  I use and have used for a l-o-n-g time Quicken Connect to do this.  But now -- No luck.  I keep getting "Download Error (323)".  I've had errors in the past and they were corrected quickly -- but not this time.  All of my other accounts with other banks are fine.  I see many posts regarding these type problems between Quicken and Wells Fargo.  All I want is a fix -- now.  I have tried many times with going thru the Setup procedures for each account.  Quicken goes all the way thru the process, contacts WF, makes a connection and shows me green check marks indicating that my accounts are 'Updated'.  But when I try to 'Finish' and download my transactions, I'm back to where I was since Nov 14th and the e"Download Error (323)".  So, Quicken -- what's up with this and and when will it be fixed?  Else I can see that it is time to move on to a different, working, more reliable budget and money management software tool.

I have the exact same problem I can download the accounts manually.  My take it is tied to the new interface Wells Fargo rolled out about the same time the errors started.  With Wells nickel and diming the customers to death I wouldn't be surprised to have some new fees for the luxury of downloading transactions.  All my other banks still work correctly, so it has to be a Wells issue.  I have been at this bank since it was Wachovia and am considering moving all my accounts due to the crappy customer service.

One thread I found advised disconnecting all online accounts, then validating the file (File Operations - Validate) and let Quicken fix the errors. As usual, worked fine on the first download after re-enabling the web connect, then failed every time after that. Who knows, maybe it is WF messing with Quicken because they want Quicken to fail. Whichever vendor it is, they are both on my crap list. My money is on Quicken though.

Quicken was sold to a private equity firm several months ago. The buyer, H.I.G., has plans to beef up development on the Macintosh and improve the Windows version. So far not much has been happening, maybe the new year will show some results.

You can log on to Wells Fargo online banking and download transactions from one of your accounts then import the downloaded file into Quicken. It sounds harder than it really is. There is a link on the account page that says "Download Account Activity". When you click it you will see a page that will allow you to select dates and file type. You want to select the "Quicken" file type. Quicken has an Import menu item under the file menu.

win .. have you seen that when you download manually your transactions it doubles it / .. I am dgoing thru my register and seeing that I have to delete trasnactions because they are downloading them twice .. any solutions on that

I have only seen that happen on transactions that I had manually cleared before I downloaded them from Wells Fargo. Quicken has been very good at matching downloaded transactions with uncleared transactions in the register. One thing that might help is changing the start date on the download page to match the date of your earliest uncleared transaction in the Quicken register.

I am using Quicken Deluxe 2015 for Windows which is very different from the Mac version of Quicken. I have the Mac version but I don't use it anymore, it just doesn't work as well for me.

I definitely have strange behavior, and I'm tempted to upgrade to Quicken 2017 to see if it goes away.
  1. No matter how many times I disable Web Connect and then re-enable Web Connect, the only successful download for the 3 Wells Fargo accounts in this Quicken file occurs at the time I re-enable it. Subsequent attempts to update fail.
  2. When I download the file manually, I have to "manually link" to the correct account each time. Maybe that's because all of the possible accounts supposedly already have a Web Connect, IDK
  3. I have a small business I track with a separate quicken file. While these Wells Fargo Accounts have had issues with Web Connect from within the Quicken interface, they are currently working, so I don't think it's Wells Fargo.
  4. Can't quite bring myself to spend the $45 for 2017 if it's going to have the same problems.
Where exactly is Quicken Support in all of this?

Other people who have updated to Quicken 2017 are suffering from the same problem. Read this before you pay the $45.

I've called WF and they say it's Quicken no longer being compatible with their new website. Sounds like I can get Direct Connect fees waived until the problem is resolved. Maybe they are hoping that we will stay on Direct Connect. Does Quicken charge anything for that nowadays? Seems to me the last time I used something approaching Direct Connect, more than one party wanted a piece.

This problem occurs in Quicken 2017 for me.  A workaround I found is to deactivate WF from the online services and reactivate it.  Its a bit of a pain, but has worked for me.  I do wish they'd fix the problem.

I called WF and ragged them into waiving Direct Connect Fees. The agent told me to wait a few days then set up for Direct Connect. I have no idea if they will actually waive the fee, but I think it's only $3 a month. That's probably the end goal anyway, get more money from the customers. Anyway, it works now.

it's great that WF is willing to waive the Direct Connect Fees, they really don't have to do that.

It's the Quicken code that's broken and only Quicken can fix it. Wells Fargo has updated their online banking website, it's their right to do so. Quicken should update their code to match the website changes made by WF, but they haven't done so and they haven't been very forthcoming in explaining the problem to Quicken users.
