I am using Quicken 2018 Version R3.4 Build 27.1.3.4. It keeps completely freezing when I click on one of my accounts to see the transactions. This began happening after the last update it installed. I do a one step update and it appears to download everything normally. Afterwards, I can click on some accounts and things are fine, but there seems to be one that acts corrupt. When I click on the account the program immediately freezes. I have to use task manager to stop the program. Then if I restart quicken it will not open my file until I reboot my computer.
The first time it was locked up when I clicked on a particular account. This happened repeatedly so I loaded a backup. Which worked fine for a couple of days but then the same issue started again but this time a different account would now freezes the program when I click on it to try and look at the transactions for it. Both of the accounts that have had this issue are under the banking section of accounts.

Quicken Canada users: Do not download the first set of patch or Mondo Patch files in the above links. They apply to Quicken US users only. Instead, scroll down the webpage to the Quicken Canada section and download that file. For 2015 and 2016 it may be hiding behind a clickable word "here".

( * minimum required release number, may be higher, subject to change without notice)

Please do this even if you are on the latest release already:
Locate the Mondo Patch file (US) or Canada Mondo Patch file applicable to your version of Quicken in the links above.
Download it and save it to disk.
Temporarily disable your Antivirus software for the entire duration of the next step:
- Open the Downloads folder. Right-click the downloaded patch file. Click "Run as Administrator" to execute the installation program.
This will replace any Quicken software modules with a known consistent release level and, hopefully, eliminate any software corruption or errors during installation as a cause of this issue.

Hi - I have exactly the same problem - and my setup is identical to yours.  I have tried this update - but still have the problem.  I was asked to try the "validate & repair" option - which I have and now have no errors in my file [according to a rerun of the same].  I am frustrated - and cannot afford to go too far back on my backups as I will lose a lot of my investment info.  Awaiting any further suggestions.

Bryan - I called Quicken helpline - and was lucky to be helped by a person who resolved the problem for me.  Here's what did the trick,

1.  We went to the settings of the account that froze up...in the account details window, under the online services tab, toggle the field to read "Automatic entry is:On".  My original setting was off - so that I could manually enter them onto the register.

2.  Go to the Edit menu at the top and pick Preferences.  click on the "Downloaded transactions" and check on the "Automatically add to banking registers".

3.  Now close Quicken and open again - the transactions should be entered into this account.  And now this account is no longer frozen.

See if this is helps you.  Good luck.
.
Shawn.

Hi Shawn
Thanks for the information, I am glad there was a resolution to yours. Unfortunately my settings were already set for auto entry and auto add. Under online services I tried resetting the account and deactivating the downloads. Neither helped. I guess I need to place a call to support myself.

I, too, tried this solution, but it didn't work for me either.

I’ve got the same problem described above. I was on the phone with Quicken support for 2-1/2 Hours with no resolution of the issue. I even tried reversing the latest Windows 10 update to no avail. I tried the patch suggested above, but it didn’t make any difference. I did narrow it down to two accounts that are not behaving well. Of course, these are the most important ones I need to access frequently. Okay, Quicken, help us out.

hi all - I figured it out. After 3 hours with the online chat which was a lot of effort, no help, and completely frustrating, I was able to piece it together.
Apparently the bill reminder was the issue. There was another issue where I could not manually edit the bill reminders, choosing that caused the program to close, not just freeze. This was discovered while trying to delete the account, which I could not do because of an outstanding reminder. So I was stuck in a loop - I cold not delete because of the reminder, but I could not manage the reminders. However, if you right click on the account you can get to its options. If you chose to close - NOT DELETE - the account it will automatically delete the reminders as it closes it. After closing the account I was able to delete the account. I was then able to add the account as a new one. It now appears to be functioning just fine. It downloaded the transactions etc without incident. I closed Quicken and reopened it and all seems to be OK. I will not be enabling the function to get bills, and may disable it on the rest. Hopefully this helps, good luck.

I have this same problem.  Quicken released a New Year's patch (Happy New Year's) and all heck broke lose.  In another thread they recommended I move the clock back and delete my budgets.  Ok.  Budgets gone.  I really didn't like them anyway.  Now you are suggesting I delete my accounts right at prime time tax season.  Yeah.  Not acceptable.  I have a business and rental properties.  I think I should just delete Quicken and look for a better solution.  Every time Quicken does an update, I spend countless hours trying to figure how to recover my data.  Good thing they been screwing it up since leaving Intuit because I have been backing up every since.
