Can't find instructions anywhere.  The links at https://www.quicken.com/support/how-do-i-upgrade-newer-version-quicken-windows all seem to be broken.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Greetings Creator (I've always wanted to say that):

Thank you so much for your advice.  Frankly, I'm too tired to do much of anything at this point (I've been working on this for the last 8 hours), so I'll give it a fresh shot tomorrow.

do want to point out, though, that ...

1.  The first FAQ you mention ( https://www.quicken.com/support/how-and-when-use-intermediate-version-convert-older-versions-quicken... ) only refers to "Convert a Quicken 98 - 2003 data file" - nothing about anything later than 2003 (like my 2007).

and

2.  None of the links at your third suggestion ( https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/how-to-download-and-how-to-install-from-download... ) are working for me.  (Am I doing something wrong?)

I have tried downloading and launching Quicken 2013, then opening an existing QDF file, but get the error message Cannot open file.  The QDF file is from a later version of Quicken, which makes no sense since I'd used my Quicken 2007 to create the QDF file.

Sigh.

Thanks again.

Hi @ Peter ,

What browser are you using for downloads?

What Quicken version are you upgrading from? Meaning R #.

Ex:

Quicken 2018 Rental Property Manager R3
Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit Build 14905.1000

I may not know Stocks, Bonds or Options, but I do know how to install Quicken, having to learn it myself.

Don't use Quicken 2013, but use Quicken 2013 to restore the Backup data file. When it restores, it converts the file. Then Backup the Converted Data File.

Then uninstall the program from my link, because you want to do a Clean install.

All Quicken programs are Windows, correct?

Hi thecreator:

In answer to your questions ...
  • I'm using Chrome to download to my "old" computer".  Version 49.0.2623.112 m
  • The operating system on my old computer (where I have my Quicken files) is Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3
  • All Quicken programs/versions are Windows
  • I'm upgrading from Quicken 2007 Basic Release 1
Thanks.

Hi @ Peter ,

You said "old computer" What operating system is installed on the New Computer?

The R number for Quicken 2007 is R 5, which you can obtain from:  http://www.quicknperlwiz.com/quickenpatches.html

Scroll down to see.

You said, also " I have tried downloading and launching Quicken 2013, then opening an existing QDF file, but get the error message Cannot open file.  The QDF file is from a later version of Quicken, which makes no sense since I'd used my Quicken 2007 to create the QDF file."

You need to apply R 5 to Quicken 2007 Basic Release 1.

Hi again:

  1. The "new" computer is running Windows 10 10.0.14393 Build 14393
  2. I have now - thanks for your help - applied R5 to my Quicken 2007.  Interestingly, though I believe I have the Canadian version of Quicken 2007, the upgrade seems to have gone OK.
Are you suggesting that I now backup my data files with the upgraded 2007 ... then
Uninstall the Quicken 2015 that I have on my Win10 computer and reinstall it?

Hi @ Peter ,

Make sure that you have APPLIED the Mondo Patch to Quicken 2015 version.

https://www.quicken.com/support/quicken-2015-windows-release-notes-updates-and-mondo-patch?priorityC...

Yes, make a Backup with your Quicken 2007 program.

But you are confusing me. Do you have the U.S.A. or Canadian version of Quicken 2015?

Oh, and see this Article: https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/add-your-quicken-information-to-your-posts-plus-...

Make sure to read the entire Article.

Isn't he going to run into problems converting his data using the Canadian version of Quicken 2007?

Looks like it worked!

As suggested, I upgraded to the final version of Q2007 on my "old" (WinXP) machine, using the site that thecreator suggested and then backed up my data file.  I transferred that backup to my "new" machine (Win10) and opened it using Q2013.  Having "restored" that file, I then backed it up.  I then installed Q2015, and it automatically deleted Q2013 as part of the setup (but did not touch my data file).  I then restored the data file I'd created with Q2013 and it's working!

In answer to gmalis1's question: There didn't seem to be any problem moving from the Canadian Q2007 to the (presumably) U.S. version of Q2013 that I downloaded and then to the U.S. version of Q2015 that I purchased (because I don't want to be locked into the new subscription model that Quicken is currently testing with the Canadian version of Q2015).  Luckily, I always enter all my data manually, so that the fact that the U.S. Q2015 will not do automatic downloads from Canadian banks or brokerage fims is not a problem for me.

There was, initially, some problem where I had to log back into Intuit every time I opened my data file, but I think that's because I hadn't saved my data file in the right folder.  Think I've got that figured out now.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your help!

The new Canadian subscription model is for Quicken 2017 Canada.

Any earlier year version was "Quicken as usual".
