UPDATE: Error LA:2261 with Quicken Online Backup

Some users are reporting an error LA:2261 - Capacity Exceeded when trying to use Quicken Online Backup.  Unfortunately, there was an issue with the backup utility in Quicken that didn't properly notify you of backup account overages until it was fixed in a recent server update.  The error message you're receiving in Quicken is accurate--according to the Quicken Online Backup service, you have exceeded the available backup space on the Online Backup servers for your account.

The currently available options are:
  • Backup your Quicken data using the Quicken Online Backup Utility, rather than backing up directly from Quicken program.
  • Increase your accounts storage capacity (paid storage).
Hope this helps,
Quicken Kathryn

Quicken 2016 Windows 10.  Until 3 weeks ago, I had no problem with quicken online backup.
I have been getting an error report says I don't have enough space(?). How do I confirm this to be accurate and how do I manage my account?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled more on LA:2261, please..

Could someone post more explicit instructions on this?  The post from today says to visit the online back up site and remove files, but when I go to that link, all I see is an option to purchase more storage.  Could someone explain how to remove files?
I have Quicken 2016 deluxe for Windows.  Thanks for any help.

Locate the application on your computer and run:  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\QuickenOLBackupLauncher.exe"

Online Backup does not work when launched within Quicken 2016 Win 10.  I get the LA:2261 msg.  However, when I run the Online Backup client application outside of Q2016, it works.  The QDF file is only 59MB.  (below the 100MB limit).

I have the same problem.  I don't think Quicken is too excited about a fix for this problem.  I deleted my on line back up account, reregistered and it worked for about three back ups before the LA2261 again reared it's ugly head.  Do Quicken personnel read these comments or do they just wait for the annual upgrade to take their money to the bank.  Not a happy camper and there are a lot of us out here.

I had the same unacceptable experience.  I have been using Quicken for almost 10 years and this is by far the worst failure I have had with the program.  I spent several hours with them on the phone July 11 and the problem still isnt fixed.

The online backup site does not allow me to remove files only to increase storage.  .

oh, great! I was going to do exactly that (remove files) but I'm now having problems even logging in.....  $49.99 was deducted from my bank account with NO problems. ;-(   No a happy camper AT ALL!

i recently spent an hour with quicken online chat. They acknowledged htis is an unresolved bug that cannot be resolved by buying more storage. They are working on a fix. Meanwhile they showed me a work around where I can complete the online backup by opening quicken online backup from outside the quicken program. It was somewhat complicated but basically involved opening online backup from the icon in computer utility tray

Quicken Kathryn (Official Rep?!?!?!?) "In order to continue backing up normally, you'll need to go to the Online Backup Site and remove extra files, or add more backup capacity, in order to continue using Online Backup from inside of Quicken."

1. Your link to the Online Backup Site takes one to a generic Quicken products page with no mention of Online Backup.
2. I know how to open Q Online Backup on my computer...how does one delete files? I see no option to.....

This is not the correct answer. I spent an hour online with your chat support today. The problem is not enough storage. Increasing storage is not the answer. There is a programming bug. There is a workaround by using the utility tray but main problem is a program bug that needs to be fixed. This was result of 60 minute chat with Quicken support

LA2261 error continues....continue to get mixed responses between this online forum and the online customer support. Forum says I need to buy more space for backup - not true. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM IF SO MANY OF US ARE HAVING IT!!!

There is a conflict in release 8 in which I cannot do an online backup to my account.  I get an LA2261.  I called this in several weeks ago and it was resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling the program and then installing release 7.  Since that time, I get almost daily messages to install release 8 or qw patch.  Mistakenly thinking that the problem has been resolved, I stupidly installed the patch tonight and am back to the same problem.  I don't have time to be going through a bunch of steps to bring the program back to release 7.  The support person I talked to before (about a month ago) told me that this was a known issue.  When the heck is it going to be fixed and why, in the meantime do you have to keep trying to get us to download a faulty update???

ERROR LA2261 still not solved. Am I going to get an extension of the year contract? I just paid for 1 GB and and my file is is only 1/4 that size. I see that many others are frustrated by the same thing. There are no answers from the company. I will cancel my online backup for a full refund if this cannot be solved. It's been several weeks now.

I have been getting error message LA2261 for about 3 months now and I have chatted and spoken on the phone 4 different times with agents that tell me to 'hang on we're working on it'.  I have lost 3 months of my backup money I paid AND 3-4 hours of my time on this.  When is this going to get fixed and how do we get reimbursed for our lost money?  This really is beginning to resemble a communist plot to get all online backup users to opt for a larger storage option and pay more yearly, but I am proof that increasing and paying for more storage doesn't work either.  Anyone else think it odd that the phone line to speak to someone from Q online backup quit about the time this problem occurred?

I've been getting LA2261 for a while now. It used to work fine. I even paid for expanded backup capacity. When I click the Backup button, I just get a pop-up to select hard drive or online backup. There is no way to select individual files.

LA2261:  I have had this problem for nearly two months.  I am unable to back up online but instead get the error message with the suggestion that I purchase more space.  Even though I was quite sure that I had enough space, I purchased more anyway.  No change in the problem.  I tried to chat but was repeatedly told that the 24/7 chat was closed.  I tried to call and waited 45 minutes until I gave up.  I finally reached chat and was told that my space was not a problem and that I would be informed when the problem was fixed by Quicken.  How could this problem take several months to fix?  And how many people have purchased more space at Quicken's suggestion without any solution?  I have used Quicken for 24 years, and I am appalled by this amateurish level of service.

Continuing Error LA2261 when attempting to use Quicken Online Backup from within Quicken version 2016R8.

The error began with the installation of 2016R8 and continues today.  There has been no official word from Quicken or any other official entity that this issue is even being worked on much less when it will be corrected. I think that Quicken management should let the community know definitively when they expect to have this issue resolved.  Will a R9 be released or is the problem going to remain until the release of V2017?  Quicken Management: Why can you not answer that simple question?

I get the message when backing up:"Some files may not have been protected as you have exceeded your 100 MByte limit."  How can I choose the right amount of content for my online backup?

And I don't know how to find my version number.  I am account 646736626.

I upgraded to Quicken 2017 Deluxe this morning. You're welcome.

Now, my Quicken backup doesn't work. It says I've exceeded my limit.
I opened up my Quicken backup and see hundreds of backups. Of course I exceeded my limit. I didn't know those were there.

How do I delete old backups I now longer need? I'm not talking about deleting them from my computer. I'm talking about deleting them from Quicken backup server.
