When flagging "accelerate with Firedownload", the download doesn't start, so I have to uncheck it and all works again.

Thanks for help

P.S. using with Firefox 3.0.5 on Mac OSX 10.4.11

Apparently "the extra support effort simply isn't justifiable" to warn users about the lack of platform support before they waste their time with this extension.

Perhaps you'd like to clarify why your site continues to sport the "Universal Binary" logo for Wyzo (which includes this plugin, and is the only indication of architecture support) while here, you claim not to support PowerPC at all.

This is the only clear statement I have seen anywhere that Firedownload does not support PowerPC macs.

Just to clarify my viewpoint here: It's perfectly understandable that you don't want to continue to support a declining platform, but what is not understandable is the mixed messages being sent with regards to platform support - which made it unclear whether this is a bug or strategic ignorance.

To compound things, finding the support forums and subsequently getting a response from anyone at Radical to a very simple issue was like pulling teeth.

If the information was available at download time or Radical employees responded to normal support questions I could have had an answer a long time ago, without needing to resort to trolling your support forums just to get a response.

I also am unable to download anything with FireDownload. I installed this utility a few months ago and, for the first few times, it worked beautifully (noticeable acceleration when downloading). But, for about the last 1.5 months, I have been unable to download anything unless I uncheck the "Accelerate with FireDownload" checkbox. Currently I am trying to download an ISO file from a Ubuntu mirror site in Taiwan, but this same behavior occurs with any file download I have tried, both in Linux (Ubuntu 8.04, Kubuntu 9.10) and in Windows XP. I am currently using FIrefox 3.0.14 in Linux and FIrefox 3.5 in WIndows XP.

In my case, when "Accelerate with FireDownload" is checked, the "Save File" button is inactive in the Firefox download dialog window. The "Cancel" button works but the "Save File" button does not even respond to a mouse over (i.e. it does not change color). Of course clicking the "Save File" button does nothing as well. As soon as I un-check the "Accelerate with FireDownload" checkbox, the "Save File" button works as expected (but without download acceleration). Please fix this bug because it did seem that FIreDownload provided significant acceleration the few times it worked after initial installation.

Using firefox 3.5.5 on Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 and I can barely use this add-on. It might work on some sites but mostly don't, however it is still in beta phase so looking forward to see some fixes and thank you for sharing this nice add-on.

Here it is one site just for an example where firedownload refuses to run:

I have the same problem.. Firedownload blocks all downloads.. I have yet to see it work even once. I have tried it with OSX 10.5 and 10.6, Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04, Win XP SP3, and Vista, I have tried it with Firefox versions from 3.5 to 3.7 on all platforms and tried it with firedownload as the only extension. I have tried to download a multitude of different files from various sites. And it still doesn't work.

I think it is a problem with the binary part of the extension..

Fehler: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520008 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS) [nsIFireDownload.startWithLauncher]" nsresult: "0x80520008 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://firedownload/content/unknownContentType-overlay.js :: firedownload_dialogAccepted :: line 58" data: no]

Thats the Error in the Errorconsole that appears after trying to download with checked "Accelerate with FireDownload.

Have the same problem with FireDownload blocking all downloads completely.

Hope the errorcode helps you

p.s. "NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS"? I know for sure that that this is not the case -.- especially because i can't decide WHERE to save it in the first place -.-

I have solved the problem. I simply uninstalled Firedownload and have forgotten that it ever existed. It’s obviously junk and doesn’t work at all.

I do have this problem on 3 computers I have installed the extension on with select websites. However, in my case, the downloads will EVENTUALLY start, just not as soon as I want them to. For example, downloading anything from rapidshare will cause the problem for me. I simply have to download the file (checking accelerate with firedownload) then the download window goes away and the file doesn't actually start until what seems like hours later.

I noticed this after leaving my computer on all night. When I woke up the next morning, the file had downloaded, it just didn't start until some time after I went to sleep.

Thanks for the heads-up efini93. I've filed a report with the team regarding compatibility with Rocketdock.

Is this an issue just with this particular file or all downloads? What OS and browsers and versions are you using?

In any case, we will take a look and see what we can do about adding support.

I also have this problem:
Window XP, Firefox 3.6 with FireDownload beta. When I choose Accelerate with Firedownload, nothing. But I find a .part file (file created when downloading) in the installation directory. Fix it, please.
And, it only seems to occur when I download from Megaupload. I'm trying other pages and I'll see if this problem occurs too.

Yannick - Of course we are looking into it. There are tens of thousands of people using FireDownload everyday so the statement that FireDiwnload doesn't work at all is nonsense.

There are a few known sites that are incompatible, however. Right now, the sites known not to work with FireDownload are:

softonic.com
megaupload.com
rapidshare.com
rocketdock.com

Zombify - This is why you are having issues at megaupload. When possible, we are implementing fixes for sites but there may be cases where it isn't possible. Still trying with MU as we know it's popularity makes it important.

Frett - I'm looking into the list of sites that you mentioned. I'll come back with more information as i's available. Thanks for the input.

If anyone is interested in giving the new Beta versions a run-through, please see the announcement here:
here.

If you decide to install the betas, please post feedback if a) it solves any of the issues you currently have, or b) you experience any new issues.

Thanks!

Alfred DeRose - I am happy to hear that someone is looking into these MANY issues, but I believe it is incorrect to say there are only a FEW sites that are incompatible. Several people have listed may sites that do not work with Firedownload. In fact, for me I almost NEVER find a site that works with Firedownload. The only reason I have not removed Firedownload entirely (as Rick Pryor mentioned above) is because it did work initially when I installed in many months ago and it did seem to accelerate the downloads well when it still worked. Unfortunately I have had ZERO success with Firedownload for at least six months using Windows XP, Ubuntu 9.04, Kubuntu 9.10, and Linux Mint Helena with Firefox 3.5.8, or 3.6. I would really like Firedownload to work again but it has been utterly useless for quite some time and, considering the numerous similar complaints that have been outstanding for many months, it is difficult to imagine that this issue is actually getting much attention. This is a widespread issue, across multiple operating systems and multiple versions of FIrefox. This issue should be relatively easy to duplicate for troubleshooting purposes.

Greg and all -

I have created a company announcement HERE to be used as a central repository of reports about unsupported sites.

I have added those that I have managed to cull from this post and will be adding to it over the coming days.

Moving forward, please use that thread to report any unsupported sites that you come across.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Alfred - Any updates on an upgrade to Wyzo? Firefox stable builds are up in the 3.6.x and Wyzo still in 3.5.x.

Alfred, seriously, as already mentioned, Firedownload DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. At least not for me and from what i could read on other posts here the same applies to other as well. its not about some "unsupported Sites", if i had to make a list with all the sites in it where Firedownload does not work, than i would have to write in EVERY single site i can download something from. Firedownload simply BLOCKS the download, if its checked and i press "ok" on the litte download windows, then simply NOTHING HAPPENS. Es soon as i uncheck it, download works normally.

So to quote you, "the statement that FireDiwnload doesn't work at all is nonsense" is NONSENSE!
For SOME people Firedownload REALLY doesn't work at all. (I never said that this is true for everyone)

That's weird, since DownTHEMall will conflict with FireDownload, and Firefox crashes. Don't use FlashGot though.
For me, except for certain site, FireDownload works just fine.

You have this problem because "Firefox addons does not work properly in 64-bit!!(This happens very rarely)
-Another reason is that you are using firefox 3.6.8, First install firefox 3.5 (You can get it from this link http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/...)
-Then intall the addons,You will need flashgot ,firedownload and downthemall
-After installing all these from firefox>Help>check for updates and then update it to the new version

I'm experiencing a problem, when I try any download file, if not rename file during "save as" dialog box, the dowload occurs with no problem, but if I try to rename file to other as I like or need, the file extension gone out.

So if the file that I'm downloading is "File_name-v2.8.iso" or "Anyname.iso", if I leave file name as is the download occurs normally, but if I try to rename them to "FileNAMEv2.8" or "Any New Name" the file extension disappear, and the download file goes to "FileNAMEv2.8" and "Any New Name" instead "FileNAMEv2.8.ISO" or "Any New Name.ISO", so, the Firedownload affects the dialog box unprotecting the file extension or ignoring the file extension of the source in server.
