When flagging "accelerate with Firedownload", the download doesn't start, so I have to uncheck it and all works again.

Thanks for help

P.S. using with Firefox 3.0.5 on Mac OSX 10.4.11

Which file are you trying to download, so we can check if we reproduce the bug and fix it.

I tested with Apple website using Firefox 3.0.5 on OS X and it worked. Do you guys have some other extensions installed? Maybe there is a conflict somewhere.

okay, I've tried this using the normal firefox 3.05 on WinXP. worked fine until I tried downloading attachments from my Gmail account. Gmail probably doesn't want multiple connections for a single download. =(

Is it possible to be a port issue?

I think it might be related to some sites using referrers and stuff, NOT an ordinary link to a file.
Filefront.com does something like that. I can't get a download to work with any other download manager than the inbuild one in Firefox. In OrbitDownloader I have to wait a few seconds for it resolve this "rerouting link".

It could be a referrer problem if it only occurs on specific sites. If it's happening everywhere, it could be a proxy issue. Are any of the people who reported this using a network proxy?

I also see this in WinXP SP3 using latest 1.1.2 version with latest firefox nightlies (1.9.2a1pre Gecko/20090405 Minefield/3.6a1pre) with all downloads (haven't tried all possible file extensions, but I tested more than a few) and on a clean profile (no other addons installed). I am not using a network proxy either.

Having the 'Accelerate...' check box enabled and selecting the 'Save' option -> press 'OK' doesn't bring up the 'save as' dialog as it should (or start the download in the default place depending on configuration). Unchecking the checkbox resolves the issue.

I see the problem being reported as much as 7 months ago but I see nothing being done about it. Why is this?

This only seems to happen to some people in some circumstances. We haven't managed to find the cause but we'll see what we can do to narrow down the problem.

I downloaded Wyzo for Mac. FireDownload blocked the download on that browser too. Firedownload just doesn’t work.

I'm still not able to reproduce this. Are people still having problems with FireDownload 1.1.7? If so, please let me know if you are willing to help and I'll give some instructions for helping to track the problem down.

I have had this problem in Firefox 3.0 and 3.5 in linux, as well as 3.5 in windows 7 I have reinstalled the OS multiple times and still the same issue every time. I think It is time to give up on this program as It just wont work. The only work around that sometimes works is to tell firefox to save automatically the file extension your to trying to use. I had the work once and it was great and worked fast. Other than that, it has been useless.

Part of the problem for OS X users is that Firedownload is not a Universal Binary, anyone using a PowerPC Mac will be unable to use this extension.

If I had to guess, I would say that Radical Software must be going out of business and is just a shell that hasn't been wound up yet. No actual operating business would (or could afford to) be so unresponsive to their customers. If they aren't already gone, they will be soon.

It'd be nice if some kind soul could release the source to Firedownload before it follows "Radical Software" in it's spiral toward the proverbial drain.

That's just silly. We have a whole range of products and we've been focusing on a number of other priorities. FireDownload works great for most users and sites. It is true that there are issues using it with some sites, and for the time being we suggest that users simply unclick the "Accelerate with FireDownload" box in those cases. One thing we are planning to do in the short term is include a list of sites in the product so it knows just to use normal Firefox downloading for cases where FireDownload is not yet supported.

We don't support PowerPC and don't have plans to do so. The number of PowerPC users is decreasing and the extra support effort simply isn't justifiable for us.

We are keen to improve FireDownload so that it works with more websites, and we will be releasing versions in the coming months to address this.

BTW, if people are having this problem, can you look in Tools/Error Console (right after you've tried a download that doesn't start) and post here if there is an error displayed at the end of the console. Thanks!
