Unable to use FireTorrent

  • Question
  • Updated 5 years ago
Hello,
I've installed FireTorrent a couple of weeks ago, and I'm still unable to use it.
No matter which download torrent site I try to download .torrent files from, FF only offers me to save / open the file with utorrent.
Am I doing anything wrong?
I'm using FF3.1b2.

Thanks.

When FireTorrent is installed, clicking a link to a torrent file should automatically start the download.

I've notified our team about this bug you are both experiencing. Will post here if we need additional information from you.

Hopefully we can find a solution soon!

In Fedora 10,*.torrent file is opened by transsmission(the third party application)defaultly, and downloaded by it.I uninstalled it,and the *.torrent file can only process with "save",and can't process it with "open".The firetorrent doesn't work, too.

I also have this problem...Sadly this seems cool but be damned if I can get the file associations correct so that it will indeed handle torrents over my previous software. There is no options to ensure it will be the default torrent handler and adjusting in the fox assoc and Windows file extensions yield the same 'fail.'

This is kinda funny, about 2 weeks after installing this I downloaded a few torrents yesterday for NetBSD 5 and so on when I realized my torrent software was not opening. I then noticed the torrents were being pulled in Firefox. 2 weeks, several reboots, several torrents later and all kinds of other stuff and it just randomly started working. Sadly as soon as I saw how it worked I uninstalled it as there are no decent options once you're downloading, like pause or resume. This makes several things kinda tough to do.

Ha ha! same problem here and this page offers a lazy ass feeling about a simple problem on very standard machines and software lingering for months .... OK maybe time to uninstall!
you remember guys how the other firefox torrent downloaders let us down in all possible ways too; maybe they come up with a great product and suddenly they are assaulted in court or threatened otherwise by all king of copyright law suits, because ... follow the logic ... wouldn't it be a paradise and just too easy to have it all in firefox; a bit like text editing and shifting back and forth with the same software from text editing to browsing the web and how micro$oft got lynched for such attempt, or the TV and the computer being the same machine, or the internet free phone calls and the land phones/cell phones being the same network ...
all kinds of changes that are really technically NO BIG DEAL and done already, but somehow always find mountains of obstacles as soon as someone tries to bridge both worlds upon that ugly clumsy gap where ... let us not make a secret of it ... ALL MONEY IS MADE.
the more complicated, the more specialists, the more resource wasted, the more money earned and lost.

It works on Pirat Bay but on many torrent sites not.
Pirat Bay has to be good enough.

I'm not using Firetorrent anymore, but maybe it's because tpb changed their System after they became sued. And (I think) the magnet link won't work, because (I think) Firetorrent doesn't support DHT.

BTW: I think i had not such problems Torrents worked with the old Firetorrent from Wyzo 0.9. There are Torrents that worked earlier, but with the update not. And i could turn the PC off and finish the torrent the next day, couldn't I?

This might help:
random Pirate Bay torrent (working): xxxxxxx.5039654.TBP.torrent from: http://torrents.thepiratebay.org

other torrent from someonelses special site (sss): xxxxxx-sss.torrent from: http://tracker.sss.to:9020

Might this Portnumber (?) :9020 have something to do with this?

I hope you will find a solution soon! It are 7 Months now!
PS: look at "the mood in here" ;-)

PPS: Oh! sss.to exists realy. Hmmm... Don't care about that!

Since your Account is to days old, I don't think your serious.
Still 11 months is too long, I stopped using Firetorrent for months. And I even dont use Wyzo anymore for some weeks. I use ╬╝torrent and am totally satisfied. LOOK AT "THE F***ING MOOD IN HERE"
Better dont even try to fix anything wwokwilliam. Although you are not staff member of Radical Sw. you will only make it worse with your attempt.

Ya I too moved to ╬╝torrent and haven't given a shit about this in ages, it's actually been annoying me that all the sudden after like almost a fucking YEAR now it's got all this activity, to the dev, just give up :) You clearly don't have time or care so don't stretch yourself, but probably best to remove the extension so you don't get flamed for the next 40 years. You're right, there has been no satisfaction but that is going to change. I've posted an announcement explaining our reengagement plan. You can read more here: http://gsfn.us/t/pcne.

Many of the issues you are experiencing - as well as Firefox 3.6 compatibility - will be resolved in the updates. We're very close so expect to see new versions of FireTorrent, FireDownload and Wyzo soon.

As new issues are reported, we will be passing that information to developers, so moving forward, please be as specific as possible. We will dialog if anything needs to be clarified, but the more information up front, the more quickly we can push things through.

As you know, FireTorrent does not currently support Magnet links, but this is definitely the trend as some big announcements have recently been made by trackers in that regard.

I've entered an enhancement request based on your post. I think there is a pretty good chance you will see this in an upcoming release. Probably sooner rather than later.

Im using wyzo and am having the same problem as previous users described,
I kinda wonder when this will be dealt with.
But now I figured why empty torrent folders were being made, it was firetorrent half doing its job
