Why can't I download any torrents?

  • Doesn't Need an Answer
So it seems I'm having problems with downloading torrents from The Pirate Bay. I'm not sure if the problem is with TPB or with Wyzo or with FireTorrent or even FireDownload. But every time I click on "download torrent" it just remains frozen without even determining how long it might take to download. Like in the image I uploaded. It just stays that way.

I'm using the latest version of Wizo and I update all the add-ons that Wyzo uses. Is there anything I can do?

Jay, what operating system and version are you using? Have you downloaded and installed Wyzo 3.5 already?

I'm sure we can figure this out together.

By chance are any of you using Firefox 3.6 because the release versions of FireTorrent and FireDownload are not yet compatible.

If you are interested in giving the new beta versions a run-through, please see the announcement here. This may solve some of your problems.

Your I.S.P. was probably alerted to the fact that certian downloads were taking place on your I.P. address, which violated copyright laws.
This happened to a friend of mine.

you can use a VPN (virtual private network) or a proxy connection to get round this

I'm not sure of this but it could be due to your ports not being forwarded on your router check your routers setting there is various guides on the just Google it.

Have your tried the above solution? As mentioned sounds like your ISP or firewall is blocking the said port for your torrents, could try changing the port or asking your ISP to unblock it.
i can't download, when i click the link "Download This Torrent" it waits and then changes to an white website

Official Response
Oswald (and this may apply to some of the rest of you as well) -

FireTorrent does not yet support Magnet Link torrent downloads. Always use the regular .torrent option if it exists.

Sorry, but although Magnet Link downloads are not currently supported, they may be in the future.

I, too, are unable to download right now. This just started in the past few days. My download status box just shows 0% of file downloaded with unknown time remaining and 0 bytes/sec. I've tried changing the port as suggested but to no avail. I can find my way around if I'm told what to do and how to do it, but I'm at a loss on how to fix this problem. Help?

Yesterday I was d/l various torrents no problem...today nothing, zip, zilch.

I'm on OS X 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6 and using Transmission. I have a cable connection via Cox Communications...I wonder if the ISP is now playing policeman...

For $70+/month they can BITE ME. Try shutting down fileshare sites, cox nutjobs.

I am having the same problem, did anyone find a solution? Limewire downloaded the torrent just fine, and at ~1300Kbps no less, with firetorrent it just sits there at 0. Actually had the same issue with Opera and Songbird, for some reason only limewire seems able to download torrents now. So maybe this isn't firetorrents fault, but does anyone have any ideas?

Try "txtor"
From their web page (http://txtor.dwerg.net/) :

"What's txtor?

txtor is a service that offers the possibility of downloading a torrent file that's available publicly on the internet as if it were a text file. Nothing more, nothing less. We don't host or offer any torrents itself.
Why?

Some ISPs and university campus networks force their users in using a proxy server for all http traffic. In some weird, perverted attempt to stop the distribution of "illegal material" over their networks, some of these proxies are configured to filter all torrent files. That is, the torrent files itself, not the files distributed using the bittorrent protocol."

SOLUTION !!!!!

Instead of downloading the torrent and then enabling it to download, Click on the Magnetic Link. that looks like this in the picture to download. For some reason more torrent files wont download.
