App won't launch on my 3G iPhone. Just shows a wood desktop for a few seconds and then quits (crashes?) back to the Springboard pages.

Platkus, sorry to hear that. Please try the following couple of options:

1. In settings.app > Albums set the 'reset on next launch' option to 'YES', try launch the app.
2. If that doesn't work, please delete the app & download again (it won't cost you anything).
If that doesn't work, let me know.

The 1.1 version still doesn't launch on the iPhone 3G. Did anyone actually test this on the iPhone 3G? If not, then you shouldn't be selling it as compatible with the iPhone 3G.

Version 1.1.2 still doesn't work on my iPhone 3G. What's going on with this? I'm not getting any satisfaction (responses) here!

I am having the exact same problem as Platkus as well. However, I have a 1G iPod Touch running on 3.1.3. I have tried the above-mentioned "solution" to no avail as well. Maybe the problem is the app cannot run properly with 3.1.3.

Hi guys. I've personally tested Albums on an iPod Touch 1G, an iPhone 3G , an iPhone 3GS and a iPad. I'm not having the crashing problems you guys are, else I wouldn't have released, and Apple not approved, the app.

As part of the app store system, crash reports are supposed to be directed back to the developer when you sync your phone with iTunes following a crash. I've not received a single crash report from Apple for Albums, so it's very difficult for me to pinpoint what's wrong.

It's very important to me to fix the issue you're having. As the app isn't launching at all, I suspect the problem may be specific to your music library.

Please bare with me whilst I find out the best way for me to find out why the app is crashing for you.

If you're very keen to help, you could try the following:

* Remove all but a few tracks from you iPhone, try to launch albums

If this stops the app crashing, the problem is definitely with iPod access.

Platkus: I presumed Get Satisfaction would notify me of responses to this question, but not so. Sorry for taking so long to respond.

Thanks for your patience.

If you're having crashing problems, please do the following:

1. Connect your iPhone to your computer, sync with iTunes. This will copy any crash reports on the phone to your Mac.
2. Look in the following folder on your Mac:

/Users/<your username>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<your device name>/

On my machine, the full path is this:

/Users/mrwalker/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/Johnnie's 3GS/

If there are any files in there named like this:

Albums_2010-04-03-154922_Ms-iPhone.crash

3. Compress those files & send them to albumsapp@randomsequence.com

I'm not sure where these files would be on a PC, as I don't have one.

4. (Optional) If you would like to be included in the pre-release beta group, please also include your device type (iPhone / iPod Touch etc), OS version you're running and your device UUID.

I really want to get this app to work, but I am not about to delete any songs from my iPod in order to facilitate it. I appreciate the willingness to help, but I shouldn't have to do something that extreme to get it to work. I am by no means an IT expert, but I have a couple of other apps that have no problems linking to my ipod music library, so I am not sure if that is the problem. Any other suggestions that wouldn't involve something so drastic as deleting a ton of songs off my iPod? Also, I have a PC, so I am not sure where to locate the crash logs.

Brandon, I don't expect you to delete songs from your iPod - especially if you can't re-sync them from your computer.

Albums keeps its own cache of your library for fast searching, startup & playback. I suspect I'm doing something wrong in the process which only happens in certain cases, such as with your iTunes library. It's possible the other apps don't do this, or have come across & fixed this problem in their own testing.

Here's a link to Apple's documentation, explaining where your crash logs appear on Vista & XP. I would expect Windows 7 to be similar to Vista:

Thanks for your help. I just e-mailed you my crash logs from Windows. Apparently there were 31 on my computer in a span of two days! Please let me know if they help you solve the problem. Thanks again.
