Why don't RRS ballheads come with a plate for my camera?

I ordered one of your ballheads, and it came with a quick-release clamp already installed. But the ballhead did not come with a quick-release plate for my camera. Why not? Why do I have to purchase the plate for my camera separately?

The plate has to be purchased separately because RRS plates are not generic "one size fits all" plates. Instead, our quick-release plates are model-specific and typically fit only one camera. Our custom plates are designed to perfectly match the contours of your camera, and will never twist or pivot in use.

Of course, the disadvantage to the custom plate approach is that you will need to buy a new plate whenever you buy a new camera body. But the huge advantage is that an RRS custom plate delivers superior performance. After all, why spend thousands of dollars on gear and then compromise on the connection between the camera and your tripod head.
