Hulu from outside the U.S.?

How can I get Hulu and other regionally blocked television channels to work in the WebTV software if I am not in the correct region?

  • Hulu and other regionally blocked content providers learn your location by your IP address. If you want them to serve you video you must have an IP address within their approved locations.

The easiest way to do that is to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service that is located within the correct region. In the case of Hulu you need a US server. For the BBC iPlayer you need a UK server, etc.

Here is an article that explains the process for watching BBC, which is similar to Hulu except for the location of the VPN server:

Most good VPN services cost $5-15/month, but if you have a friend in the proper region they might allow you to set up a VPN through their computer to watch content, which will be free.
