Missing hard drive after hiding a file in Easy File Hider

Hi Mike.
I just installed this software on a Mac computer. I chose to hide a file on my external hard drive.
I noticed the external hard drive under devices looked transparent. I tried to click on it and it didnt do anything, so I closed the window and reopened it and the whole external hard drive is missing,
I can access the one file that i locked using your program so I know it is still there.
I have rebooted the computer after uninstalling your program and it still doesnt show up.
How do I get my hard drive to show again on my mac?
I also made sure the program was open before uninstalling it

Your prompt response would be much appreciated
Thanks
Geoff

  • Hi Geoff,

It sounds like somehow the hard drive was hidden and not the file, is that right?

That's what will happen in finder: files will be transparent until the window is refreshed.

The software should certainly not be doing that. In fact, I have put safeguards in place so that you cannot add entire drives or system folders to it, so I'm not sure what happened.

    Could you try this?

    1) Open the app
    2) Click on the Hide menu
    3) Click on Manual Recovery
    4) Enter the path to the folder (It will probably be the name of the drive followed by a colon, like "Drivename:" without quotes)
    5) Press the Show button

That should make the drive visible again.

Also, I would like to try to duplicate this behavior so that I can ensure it won't happen again. Could you tell me:

    1) The version number in the About menu?
    2) Did you get it from the Mac App Store or our website?
    3) Is there anything unique about the drive? Perhaps it's a networked drive, removable drive, etc?

    Thank you!

    -Mike

    2. Mac App store
    3. My dive is a stand alone 1 TB hard drive that plugs into my usb

You're asking me to click on manual recovery and type in my drive name...problem is I cant remember my drive name, not sure exactly what it was named, never really paid attention, The hard drive is called "my book for mac"
when I write that it does nothing, I know its something along those lines but I never ever paid attention to the exactly what it was called
    thanks for the help

  • clicking around and opening the file that the easy file hider has hidden, I managed to get the info on the folder and it shows that the drive is called My book for mac.
I typed that into the manual file recovery and it does nothing when I click show

  • I rebooted the computer and I got my drive back :)
    Praise the Lord....
But now I am afraid to use your program to hide my files again...
I store everything on an external hard drive so that I dont slow my computer down.
The folder I want to hide has Videos in it that take up a lot of space and I really dont want to put them on the Drive that is in the Mac.
You were saying that you wanted to recreate this problem, Can you keep me updated on a successful way of hiding a folder on an external HD.
    Thanks

  • Geoff,

I'm sorry for the delay, for some reason I wasn't notified of your replies.

I'm glad to see everything is back. I will test with an external to see if it's possible that Easy File Hider actually hid your drive, or if it was a problem reading the external drive that was simply fixed by your restart.

I've had disappearing drives before and it had nothing to do with the app, more to do with my mac not properly mounting the drive.
