Remote Backup Magic. It keeps crashing...

I have a MacBook 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with MacOS 10.6.8.

1) The program keeps hanging up or crashing outright.

2) It has trouble creating the archive file, and keeps thinking that there is nothing to back up.

3) The backup set list is sometimes blank. or creates new backup set when I ask to edit it.

If there is a simple solution to these problems, I am willing to give it another go, but it seems "not ready for prime time". Thank you!

  • Hi Jordan,

I wanted to let you know that I'm releasing a new build to the Mac App Store in the next few days. Specifically, it fixes the following:

    1) That random crash you're experiencing. It was a problem with trying to refresh the status text at the same moment that the queue was being updated. We didn't catch it in testing because it's kind of a random event.

    2) Fixed a bug in Incremental backups where it doesn't recognize files that are simply moved as being new, because OSX doesn't update their modification date when they're moved. We've resolved that, but that's why you might have had problems before.

I have not been able to reproduce #3 but we're still working on this update. Could you give me any more details?

    Thanks!

    -Mike

  • Hi Jordan,

We've released a new version to the app store, but apple needs to approve it first. I think that will fix your problems.

I believe I fixed a database problem that was affecting you: large backups with certain logging options turned on were causing no files to be backed up and the inability to access the backup database, resulting in empty archives and blank backup sets.

That's been taken care of now. You should get a notification from the app store when the upgrade has been approved by Apple.

    Cheers,

    -Mike
