What is the status of the Remote Backup 4.0 beta?

What is the status of the remote backup beta? Can I try it, and what is the current version?

  • The Remote Backup 4.0 beta was released on December 14th, 2011. This version works on Win/Mac. The purpose of the beta is to test the software on a wide range of systems, email accounts and FTP servers. There will be bugs, so if you want a final product you should wait for the final release in January, 2012.

    This post will always contain the latest changes and known issues. Please feel free to post other issues here and we will address them as the beta progresses.

    We anticipate a final release in early January, 2012. Your feedback before then is appreciated.

    -Fixed a bug that popped up a message saying zip compression wasn't properly registered
    -Fixed bugs related to compression that caused a Nil Object Error or Runtime Exception crashes (due to it not being properly registered)
    -Added 24 hour time mode to scheduler

    -Fixed a bug that caused a crash when trying to backup to non-mapped network drives
    -Fixed a bug that caused the software to report success even if the backup failed due to permission errors on a shared network drive
    -Changed the version number from 5.0 to 4.0, the proper major version number.

    -Added the option to open in taskbar instead of full screen
    -Added a progress bar for backups
    -Added a progress bar for restores
    -Added "Next" and "Back" buttons for easily going through tabs in the New Set dialog
    -Pressing Enter on the New Set screen will now move to the next tab
    -Added indicator images to the New Set "Save" button that shows a check mark if all required information has been completed, otherwise it shows a red X.

    -Fixed a bug that made the software think directories with UNC paths did not exist (Network locations like \\NETWORK\Share), causing backup errors

    Added new customizable options for private label customers using the software as a frontend for a backup service:

    -Specify which types of backup locations are allowed (for example, only FTP)
    -Specify which types of backup types are allowed (for example, only allow incremental)
    -Customize and lock default FTP settings for your server
    -Require grouping
    -Require auto-delete
    -Customize number of backups to keep or set a maximum
    -Require zip compression
    -Require encryption
