Editing scheme like google.

Hello,
Is it possible to change editing scheme like google wave?
I mean, it's kind of annoying get updated without notice. In wave I need to press enter to reply or press edit button to edit.

  • Every blip being editable works fine. But I do prefer Google's implementation. That one also makes more sense: one will generally not need to edit old blips, especially those created by others (you still have to be able to reply, obviously).

I guess Google's implementation would also simplify navigating between blips wit shortcut keys.

  • Googles way lets you do things like simply press enter to start a new reply. Also you won't accidentally edit something you don't want to. I like googles way much better.

Thanks for explanation. I understand your case.

For us case with one mode is more important because first we go to collaborative editing market.

But I think we should make option with two modes: (read and editing) on the second step. And everybody will happy.

    What do you think?

  • Yes, then everyone will be happy :-)

One could wonder, though: should everything be made configurable? I think if you'd make it configurable, you'd almost have two different products. This could significantly slow down development of new features.

If I had to make a choice, I'd have gone for option 2. In Google Wave option 1 was only a key away from option 2: Ctlr-E. Pressing one key to make a blip editable isn't that hard, is it?

I didn't say that everything should be configurable. And I think this is not so huge difference that makes second mode separate product.

On the other hand I agree with you that we should make minimal product and it better choose one option for everyone.

Let me explain where we come from with our case. You know, rizzoma has different types of users. Usually they work in teams. And most of them came from google wave.

Our team consist from people with slogan: make everything as faster as possible. We use rizzoma for creating plans, finance documents, articles, web-pages. And important thing that you can put down you idea in the right context in couple seconds. And we don't like spend time for additional clicks.
You can say that we are not average users. May be you right. And we try to understand user experience and business applications for rizzoma. We know teams that like editing mode. Especially teams who works on realtime tasks.

We didn't realize that someone would disagree with our one mode feature. But now we read your feedback (and not only your) and already understand that another point of view exist. later we can do this. And I think we can also find good interface solution (not too many options).

But I still feel that I don't see real picture. It will be great if you provide more information about you user cases. How and why you used GW for business? Or we can communicate by skype.

here is an example of business case: http://blog.rizzoma.com/2012/02/27/ri...

  • In case of we cannot see what has changed from last update, it is really annoying that any key input will update the status to unread.

  • Yeah, this is seriously something that's bothering me.
That you're always in editing mode, you can't like hit "done" like in wave so you're cursor isn't focus in a text box anymore.
