Not able to record video

  • Problem

I click on the Rec button, then wait for the countdown, do some funny (or not) things, write something and then click Update. The status is updated but the video isn't appearing.

What I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Hey give it another shot. Could be just a hiccup since we're getting tons of traffic right now cause of the announcements. Server robots need time to adapt and all.

Thanks for the response.

It's weird because It works on my office computer (iMac) but still not working at home (Macbook). Maybe is something related with my flash player at home or something. I'll try later.

Don't know if this helps. But there's no progress bar when the video is recording on the Macbook (after the countdown nothing happens).

I have the same problem - I'm on an Intel MacBook Pro, running Leopard. I tried installing Adobe Flash Player 10, thinking that might fix it, but it still doesn't work. I'm able to see myself on the screen via iSight, but no footage shows up when I update my status.

Any update on this? I still can't get a recording to stick. I don't even know if it's actually recording anything at all.

Hey we're still trying to track down where the bug is. Would appreciate your help - if you can tell us...

Are you using an external iSight with your macbook pro?

In case your flash is just confused as to which camera to use, can you try a Right click > Settings on the video box to edit your flash settings. Then try to see if it comes up when you change the hardware settings.

Hi Ericson,

Thanks for your reply. I'm using a built-in iSight camera. Under the flash settings I am checking the USB Video Class Video setting for the camera and I have it on "Allow" and to remember my setting.

It recognizes my camera - I'm able to see myself, but when I press the record button it counts down, but then nothing happens - it doesn't process a recording.

So if you are getting to the REC button then your flash is working. And if you can see yourself on the camera before you click record, then the camera is working. All I can think of is that you might be on a low bandwidth connection (like when you're running a torrent). Also, try it with the power cable connected to your MacBook. Believe it or not there is a flash video bug where it doesn't work well under battery power only.

Thanks, Ericson - I tried recording with my power cable plugged in, but no luck. I'll try using an ethernet cable later (I've been using the wireless connection here at school up to this point). :)

An update: Recording works perfectly here at home, on wifi no less. I had previously been trying to record on my school's wireless network, so that connection for whatever reason was the problem.

actually if you just reset SMP system mgmt profiler on your macbook it does the trick. at least it did for me.
just turn off your laptop, unplug power, take out your battery, press and hold the power button for five seconds, replug and put back in your battery, then restart.

Ditto Starline. The lack of a delete feature is also pretty annoying. Adding a delete function is most idea when these "hiccups" happen.

Okay, I have a phillips PC cam- I don't have money to buy an expensiv cam-I click on my amcam desctop icon and it works- but when I hit record on robo.to- it keeps saying to open orturn on my cam. The only way to turn on is to open the icon on my destop- I do this and it still doesn't work, I also unplug an dpluged it back in. still nothinjg. I've even recorded it , saved it, and sent it to the email I was given and AGAIN it doens't show anyting. It gives the title as an update that I put in the email subjecy but thats it- no recorded vid. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

My problem is that it won't let me update a video at all. I click on record and the connecting thing pops up but the window that says allow decline access to webcam never pops up. I don't think it's because of my webcam though because for some reason, it lets me uplaod a video if I react to someone elses. This just happened recently. It's been about three days. Just thought I'd let you know~thanks.

Are you using Internet Explorer? I've got mine to work again but the only way I did it was to use Firefox. The weird thing was that once I got it to work on firefox it started to work again on explorer. But yeah, we pretty much have the exact same problem so try this and see if it helps at all.

I'm also having the same problem! I've just got a MacBook Pro, and I'm using the internal iSight camera. I've selected the USB Video Class Video, but it's showing up as completely black.

I think it's time to just redo your Flash recorder from the ground up, guys. I'm sick of "giving it another try" only to find the same damn buggy recorder. On my 2Ghz Black MacBook running Snow Leopard and the latest Firefox, just now, I got the recorder to record properly once. But I wasn't satisfied with the clip so I recorded it again. The 2nd recording looked like a successful recording, but all that displayed was the thumbnail from the previous recording. I clicked "redo" again and tried a third time and got the same results that I've gotten on previous attempts to record--just a black screen.

I'm no longer following this question on GetSatisfaction because I'm tired of hearing about how people are *still* having trouble with this recorder.

sorry this has been such a bear! there is an auto-detect in the recorder which is pretty clearly not doing it's job, esp on windows. we're on the case and should have a fix pushed live this week, though. thanks a lot for your patience with this!!!
