Song plays for a few seconds then itunes changes song...

I just downloaded my music from my ipod 30g video to my itunes 7.6.1 onto my brand new (3 day old) macbook. Nearly half of the albums play around 12 seconds of each song then move on to the next song. Some of the songs also skip. I used to have a PC and switched to a Mac when PC died. What's the deal? Anyone else encounter this issue? Anyone know how to fix it? I am using the newest version of podworks and have the full version.

I've heard a few scattered reports of this, but I'm kind of at a loss to explain it right now. Did you see any errors at all during the copy? Do you have iTunes set to automatically add songs to the iTunes music folder (under the Advanced tab in iTunes preferences)?

No errors. Yes. That box is checked.

I'm a bit stymied by this, but the fact that you were probably using a Windows formatted iPod seems like an important detail. I don't really test with Windows-formatted iPods, so I probably need to either start doing that or make an explicit statement that I don't support Windows-formatted iPods...

Very similar thing happened to me. I put all my music from my iTunes library on my PC onto a flash drive, and after a few times filling it up and transferring to my mac mini iTunes library, it was finally filled.

However many of the songs on my mac mini itunes play for a few seconds and stop. The time code shows the full allotted time for the song, so I think it is on there somewhere.

can anyone help out on this issue?

I am having the same problem, and I have a macbook. Songs play like 'samples' before jumping to next song. This was not the case before. Now it happens on both my laptop and my ipod. There ought to be customer support for this problem, as it is apparently a common one.

Same problem here. I'm all mac though, just started happening with some new stuff added to iTunes 8. I really hope this isn't a bug with 8.

Oh and possibly important: If I manually skip past the part that it ends the song, it will continue playing from where I placed the play head, but only for the same amount of time it would from the beginning. All these tracks play completely in any other media player.

I am having the exact same issue on a iMac. This is definitely a bug I have seen this in a lot of online forums. Its time apple acknowledge the bug and fix it.

:( I have the same problem but I never switched computers and it happens on both of my iPods that have totally different files on them. It only happens sometimes and then will randomly correct itself,

Since this has happened to me as well, and I am trying to transfer from a PC to a Mac, it is important that it is said that this program doesn't work that way. If there is a way to fix this problem that would be great.

Same problem. The song plays fine with VLC media player or Quicktime or Foobar2000 but it skips after a few seconds in iTunes. That would point to an iTunes problem. This would be fine if I wasn't using an Airport Express and locked into iTunes.

I've got the same problem - I transferred all my music from my ipod to my new macbook via podworks and now half of them only play for 12 seconds or 8 seconds. it seems to be completely random as even songs i have bought in the itunes store on my pc also don't play. i have just synced my ipod to my mac and now the problem is happening on my ipod! its very very annoying and frustrating. do you think podworks could be the problem? maybe it all happened in the transfer...

Just want to chime in that I've had the same issue. I've transferred all of my songs from my PC to my new Macbook and the issue is consistent.

Yeah, it is not cool. Have you figured out how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

Same problem. I imported a lot of music onto a Mac Mini from an iPod that has since been stolen. Now I can't really listen to a lot of these songs. They skip after a few seconds to the next song (the amount of time varies). If I manually force them past the "stopping point," then I can hear the rest of the song, but this is extremely annoying in practice. When I transferred these tracks to my new iPod, they have the same problem in playback. I should add neither iPod was ever formatted for the PC.

okay, same problem here. all my music is stored on a NAS so I'm wondering if all the folks like me with this problem have their music too on an external drive and if that's the problem. What's disappointing is that I've been using iTunes for five years in this configuration and only with the latest iTunes 8.x have I encountered this problem. I'm not sure of any workaround but it makes playing music on my computer via iTunes impossible for the first time in many many years.

I think it has somehing to do with storing on an external drive - I have my library stored on an external harddrive, have never switched systems (i.e. PC to mac as people above) but have the same issue.

THis just happened to me today. Plays a small snippet of my songs before skipping to the next one. So far the music I transfered from my PC to my Macbook appear fine (don't know for certain as I haven't had a chance to listen to all the music) but some recent music I added to my Macbook is not working. Very very very annoying.

iTunes update fixed it for me (while ago). Try re-importing the songs and repairing permissions if on a mac. And if all else fails I think I just had to get new versions of the tracks that weren't working (though, my problem was only with a limited number of tracks)

I am on iTunes 8.1 and having the same problem. I imported all of my wma files which automatically converted them to the iTunes format. After that, iTunes correctly played for several days (3 I think). After 3 days it plays 1 - 2 seconds of the song and then just stops playing again.

I'm on a Dell Vostro 1510 and have been using this machine for a year with no trouble. Thought maybe it was an incompatibility with something else installed. I wiped the drive, and loaded a fresh windows install. This did not fix the issue and after 3 days the issue reappeared.

Dell is completely baffled, and so am I. In fact, iTunes actually makes all the cd controls on my laptop go haywire and flash and blink and go nutso when it's open.

Still no help from anybody about this. It's not even just songs I transfered from my PC, it's all new songs I add via cds, itunes, etc., and old songs as well. There is no answer to this problem, man that really, really sucks.

Same problem here on a PC. Installed ITunes and loaded th library (Which worked fine in Windows Media Player) and now all songs play for two seconds and stop, and WMP now crashes the Computer. Something fishy here.

I was having this problem with a few of my songs as well, I changed some of the meta data in iTunes and that seemed to fix the problem, select the song giving you trouble and right click and select get info or cmd+i(for mac)
from this menu select options and tick the start and stop time boxes(don't change their values just check those two boxes) song should work after that.
i think if you change any of the values in the option menu it will work as well.
I've also tried just editing the song name in iTunes and that worked for me as well, hope this works for everyone else as well.
Good luck everyone!!

omg. this is the funniest. i have been having the same problem. i tried a bazillion things, and nothing worked. finally i right clicked on a song i was having trouble with, and tried to Convert ID3 tags. It wouldn't let me do it, and then the song completely froze up and greyed out. so i deleted it, and then re-added the file to itunes, and now suddenly it is working. i have no idea if this is an fix, or just a total fluke, but i guess it couldn't hurt to try it?
