  • Hi Michael,

There is no way to do this at present.

We are considering developing the ability for you to run a consolidated performance report across multiple portfolios. Would this achieve the outcome you are looking for? If so I will turn this topic into an idea so that we can get further feedback and keep you updated as we progress.

Would like to see this. Would be nice if each portfolio could have different settings and the combined one its own. Ie - Sales - first in first out in one portfolio. Last in First out in another, then the combined portfolio either way.

I'm also interested in this feature to consolidate (at a reporting level) multiple portfolios. I'd like to be able to select which of the portfolio's under my control is to be reported on in this way

Love this idea. Would also like the ability to consolidate multiple portfolios into a diversity report too.

We've just released our new 'Consolidated Views' functionality to beta users. We anticipate releasing to all users within the next 1-2 weeks.

  • Why is this restricted to 5 portfolios? I've got about 17 I'd like to consolidate for a family view

    • Hi Scott, I don't need to process from this but a report (PDF/Excel) would be very handy. In terms of this I'd like to see

      Share A
      - Portfolio 1 position
      - Portfolio 2 position
      - Portfolio 17 position
      - Subtotal
      Share B
      - Portfolio 1 Position
      - Portfolio 2 position
      - Subtotal
      Total

Consider what you'd have to do to get this manually - It's a no contest... You'd beat me in a heart beat... You've done the hard part in terms of getting the data as I've said a report would be fine

In terms of not seeing this need consider that wealth is transferring from the baby boomers parents to this group and next generation and boomers to the next generation and so on. Often this is done in a trust. But from a portfolio view it basically takes one portfolio and fragments it. If you are an executor or a trustee of this situation you are constantly looking for balance...

      - As the executor from the original portfolio perspective to look at the splits into each new entity
      - from the individual decision making view point where you may have a couple of personal holdings, superfund and perhaps a trust..... but then as a family unit for multiple people. it ads up... But you are trying to diversify your investments and make sure that your not just repeating the same decisions in multiple portfolios.

I could also see a broker wanting to see who holds a particular stock as their recommendation has changed. Within a minute they would have a nice list of clients who they would need to contact to discuss. I could see this a a positive and a negative positions ... those who have if the recommendation is to sell and those not on the list if the recommendation is to buy.

As I said a report would be fine .... there is no need to process from this list. I'm interested in Qty (Number of shares), current value, cost basis and capital gain position, dividends ... being able to select the date or period range would be nice. A percentage of total and of share subtotal would be nice.

I think if you re-read the prior posts on this topic most users are thinking that this is a REPORT not a processing platform... As such within the report I'd consider a slightly easier method of adding portfolios and have a All Portfolios under management option or All Portfolio's for those that are shared only but not managed.

So I'm in complete disagreement that this information is not going to be wanted by only a few but you should consider showing this in a report rather than only as a processing platform. Cheers Mike

  • I’m frustrated
    Issues in using this

    - Traps with error if selecting one portfolio or more than 5. Because you have to enter the portfolio name I find that I tend to hit enter twice which means I'm creating the portfolio

    - Once the view is created there appears no way to edit the listing. That is can't add or delete a portfolio to an existing view

    - I can't delete a view once this is created.. I can create it with the same name but that just adds to the confusion....

THERE IS NO SUBTOTAL For a Holding which means its basically next to useless if trying to see how much money I have tied up in a single share over multiple portfolio's ....

A good start but this feature needs work.... Also note my earlier comment under Scott's comment.... above

    • Ok Scott

I found (eventually) the delete consolidated portfolio option which is within the Consolidated portfolio option. Honestly even with your instruction it still took me minutes to find it.. Surely the option to delete the portfolio view should be on the page where you get to ADD another view not within selecting the portfolio view itself..

I think you need to review this entire concept..... What was asked for was a REPORT.... what you have given is a Transactional Processing Platform. I'd like the report
    • Hi Mike, We will add a link to the settings page for consolidated views on the dashboard as we do for portfolios. This was an oversight on our part and only applies to customers who use the professional dashboard. Thanks for raising this.

We think there is value in being able to run a number of reports at the consolidated level eg performance, diversity, historical cost, sold shares etc. We could easily disable the links to make them 'reports only' but if you do need to view the detail behind a line in the report or edit a transaction then it becomes really cumbersome to switch portfolios and navigate your way back to the transaction. For the most part consolidated views behave in exactly the same way as a real portfolio, the idea is that this gives you full functionality and everything works in the way that you are already familiar with.

Please note that this functionality encompasses a wide range of feedback that goes beyond this particular forum topic. It's important that we develop a solution that has the flexibility to cover a wide range of usage requirements.

  • Sorry for the delay in updating this topic. We're currently investigation options for providing a subtotal for each holding where the same holding is contained in more than one portfolio. Thanks everyone for your feedback on this. We'll be working hard to have another beta release available as soon as possible!

  • Well done; great new feature thanks and yes SUBTOTALS would be a bonus. A couple of questions
    * performance report has different sort order to others (ie NZ is last instead of first)
    * Dividend return % : where we have 2 holdings. of same stock; to test I set buy date, quantity and price to same value. Dividend % shows as different .. Would expect them to be same. Stock is AIA.
    • Thanks for the feedback Wendy.

We'll correct the sort order on the Performance Report, it should display the local market first followed by other supported markets in alphabetical order.

Assuming buy date, price and brokerage are the same, both stocks should report the same percentage gain. There must be a difference in the transactions somewhere but feel free to email me an example if you'd like me to take a look.

      Subtotals are coming soon.

  • The ability to view a holding subtotals on the consolidated view (where the same holding existing in multiple portfolios) is now available to beta users. Look for the 'individual' and 'combined' tabs on the overview tab for the consolidated view and also an additional option on the sold shares and performance reports. Note that the interface is still being worked on and may change.

  • Hi Scott

Nice Try ... but this is totalling not subtotalling .....

Can we have both the effects of showing individual holding and combined holding on the same page please as I've outlined above... or of you don't like that idea when you click on the 2 portfolios tag underneath can you then show the detail there please... WITH A TOTAL!!

Image you have a profit and loss in front of you.. In your world you'd show me the top level Sales, Expenses and Profit ... while that's informative its no good for analysis ... Again based on your world you'd then show me all the things that made up expenses .... But no total!!

So grouping for you seems like its binary .... on or off ... I'm after the midway point please

    • Hi Geoff, thanks for the feedback.

Please also add your '+1' to the following topic: https://getsatisfaction.com/sharesight/topics/ability_to_group_by_user_defined_headings
    • Also if everyone could please move further conversation about groupings to the topic here: https://getsatisfaction.com/sharesight/topics/ability_to_group_by_user_defined_headings
It just means that we can keep all of the feedback about groupings in one place.
      Thanks!

  • Perhaps a sub-field or drop down menu in the Comment area for each security could enable users to tag that entry with their own descriptor, and then enable the sort to occur on that descriptor if it is not blank (default) with a default search if its could get us to where we need to be with maximum flexibility.
