Let users select fields to be displayed, their position and width

Consider offering the ability for users to nominate specific fields to show on the screen (and their order)

We run our 19” square screen at 1280x1024 and even that shows a lot of unused space on either side of Sharesight’s screen – probably two or three money column widths.

Many users will now have the new widescreen displays – perhaps as much as 24” and could easily show even more fields than us.

Programs often do this by allowing the users to select from a dropdown list that appears if the table's title-row is right-clicked on (NZX Shares, price, qty, value etc).

The order of the fields displayed is also set by allowing the users to drag the table title fields across to a new position.

The users can then fine tune the size of the columns by dragging on the right-hand edge of the header cell.

Retain all these settings from session to sessions.

These three changes would allow the users to make the most use of whatever screen size and resolution they run at and choose the fields that mean the most to them from all those that are available to Sharesight.

  • Thanks for the suggestion Don.

A variation on this idea would be to allow you to create custom reports which could be saved and then appear under your reports menu.

It's unlikely that we'll be able to consider developing this sort of thing until sometime next year, but we look forward to everyone's suggestions on this topic in the meantime.

  • Hi Scott
User selectable Sharesight data extracts or custom reports was going to be my next suggestion.

There are also a lot more fields readily available to download and these together with any internal calculations that Sharesight makes should be available for selection on all screens & for custom reports.

Examples of new fields that would be of particular interest would be a share’s history of EPS, Depreciation, Capital Expenditure, Paid Dividends, Special Dividends, Profit/Loss, R.O.E., Shareholders equity, P/E ratio, bond ratings and internal calculations like percentage of portfolio. These would help Sharesight become more predictive.

Then allow users to write reports or run extracts on the portfolios or selected companies selecting any data available on the Sharesight database and write reports or export into Excel or a csv file.

The reports should be able to start from scratch and not be "half written" or preformatted by Sharesight.

Offering to save them within Sharesight is a good idea and better than I dared hope for.

  • I will add my support for the idea of flexible, user definable display. I find myself constantly juggling between percent and dollar displays - why can't we have both at the same time?
