PocketSmith + Sharesight Integration

PocketSmith integration would be great!

It has a much more personal budgeting focus vs Xero's business focus, and is a lot cheaper if you don't have an accountant to give you a Xero Cashbook account.

PocketSmith has no real understanding of assets in a trading account - you just see transactions from trades and dividends. This means it also gets confused by your balance changing without transactions occurring - it doesn't understand your historical balance.

Sharesight obviously understands assets, so there's clear room for some integration.

I use pocketsmith (not pocketbook) and I would love it if my sharesight account was linked with it

Just saw the sharesight member offer for Pocketsmith come in and am trying to understand how they integrate.

Does sharesight feed info to pocketsmith?

when have tried the free version the share / fund tracking in pocketsmith was too primitive to be of any use, but would love a solution that shows full net worth by integrating the data from sharesight

    Cheers,
    Mark.

      Hi Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to read the email and share your thoughts. One of the reasons we collaborated with PocketSmith on a cross-promotional email campaign was to gauge mutual interest in our products. We don't currently have an integration with PocketSmith, but we're always looking for ways to make Sharesight even better. So if you'd like to see a Sharesight + PocketSmith integration please "upvote" this idea by clicking the "+1" button above.

Thanks again for sharing your feedback,

      Angela
    • Definitely +1 to the idea! The discount campaign was a great idea and integration would seem like a win-win for both!

  • I am already separately a subscriber to both ShareSight and PocketSmith.

Integration would be fantastic, in particular reconciling trade information, dividends etc.

Often I find the sharesight dividends don't necessarily reflect reality, but the PocketSmith bank feed means you can check it against the actual cash received.

Better integration with Commsec would also be great.

  • I've just signed onto both products. As I saw both could work with Xero I foolishly thought they'd talk to each other but they don.

Any effort from both ShreSight and PocketSmith to allow integration would be fantastic,

  • Pocketsmith integration is SUPER IMPORTANT to me. I'm trialling Sharesight now, and this lack is a big reason I may not subscribe.

This is currently the highest voted idea that is not already implemented, could it be at least moved to "under consideration"?
    • Hi Qin,

      You make a fair point!

I've updated the status to 'under consideration'. This more closely reflects the status of the idea anyway as we have been actively talking about integration possibilities with the team at Pocketsmith.

Prompted from your post I have re-started this conversation.

I will post an update when we make some headway.

  • Hi All,

We have been in touch again with PocketSmith to discuss the opportunities for an integration.

Following these discussions we've come to the conclusion that PocketSmith will likely bear the brunt of any development effort, simply due to the nature of the integration possibilities.

They have advised us that they remain interested in developing an integration with Sharesight, but due to their current development commitments they are not in a position to start work at this stage.

I will post an update should this change.

For an integration to be useful for me it would not need to be that significant, in my opinion.

I want to see my total portfolio value from Sharesight as a line item under my net wealth in PocketSmith. I do not need to see all holdings and details - that can stay in Sharesight.

I do not need to be able to send cash transactions from Pocketsmith to Sharesight - i handle cash largely in my Portfolio account i.e. dividends don't often hit any accounts in Pocketsmith.
    • I currently use quicken 2006 Nz version on windows xp (on my Mac) even though quicken left New Zealand years ago. I have 20 years of data on my quicken program! I have not found anything better that handles investments and foreign exchange. And has customisable reports within the program.

It would be great if pocketsmith were able to put resources into this integration. There are many unhappy quicken users round the world looking for an alternative to quicken. You just have to read the amazon reviews of the programme.

It gets very complex for the personal finance software companies due to having to liase with banks for the data downloads. I think also they get bogged down trying to develop mobile apps.

If sharesight requires someone to assist pocketsmith with how quicken works (it really was the gold standard of personal finance programs in its day) please let me know. I’d be happy to help, even if it is just by walking them through what quicken can do and aiming for that.

As someone else has mentioned, it doesn’t have to be a full integration from day one. Even if they started with just the portfolio value on sharesight being pulled through to the net worth figure in pocketsmith that would be of use.
