Showing yield information

A useful addition to the page for a specific share would be info on the yield of the share. This could be placed under holding info on the right of the page where current value, current quantity and ave share price are shown. The new info could show 'Yield on current price' and 'Yield on ave purchase price'.

  • Hi John,

Thanks for the suggestion. By 'Yield on current price' I assume you mean the dividend yield? I double check to see whether we have this information available in our market data.

As far as the yield on purchase price is concerned, this is essentially what we are showing with the percentage calculations at the top of the page, but let me know if you had something different in mind.

  • Scott,

Thanks for this. I should have made it clear that I was referring only to the dividend yield in both cases, i.e. the dividend yield on the current price of the share and the dividend yield calculated on the purchase price. At the moment I do these calculations each time I receive a dividend, using the dividends received over the previous 12 months, and record these in the comment box for the dividend.

I take your point about the percentage calculation at the top of the page. I had not been looking at that in this way but now I shall. I still think it would be useful to have some dividend yield information on the right hand side of the page for the individual share.

As you get older the dividend yield tends to rise in importance as a factor in share selection compared to the prospect of future capital gains - the future gets shorter! And in times like these those dividends are doubly welcome.

  • The information for trailing dividend yield is certainly in your market data. You have the dividends reported for the past 12 months and today's price.
