  • Hi,

The short answer is yes, absolutely. We have an app development in the pipeline, although we are currently working on features higher up our list of priorities.

I can't give any time frames right at this point, but our intention will be a release of something reasonably small, collect some feedback, and then launch into something more serious.

We will keep this topic updated as we make progress in this space.

    Regards

Guys, I find your statement "We have an app development in the pipeline" most concerning. "First mover advantage" is everything when it come to internet driven businesses; which businesses simply live or die every day according to their proactivity in satisfying the markets fickle customer needs. Smartphone App technology is now everyday life; your clients are playing with serious money and you appear foolish enough to indicate your directors are not interested in remaining on the front foot! I suggest you need to rethink your lethargic outlook and get with it guys....for if competitor hits the market with something better, your business is an overnight goner! The fastest way out of business in this game, is to not remain well ahead of your competitors, for customers rarely return once they've walked. A worried customer!

    • Thank you Mike Adams. You are bang on. We don't need all the functionality that the PC version provides but I need to check things on the go. Jesus, even just an app that shows the graphs that I can apply filters to from portfolio to portfolio would suffice! I feel I pay serious money per month and would actually jump ship immediately if something slightly cheaper and better came along.
    • I agree an app would be nice but i don't think its in any way the first thing that should be worked on. I think there are plenty of other issues with SS that are much higher priority. if you need to see value on the move why don't you just log into nzx/ asx or your fund website and get the info real time? When you login to SS you're only getting yesterday's information anyway - which should be much higher priority.

My experience of the "Sharesight Development Pipeline" is a black hole. It goes in it never comes out. History shows me its years not months.

This started from a post about smartphone app 4 years ago and we are now talking about being in a development pipeline?

    I've watched molasses move faster

    I rest my case.

I may be swimming against the tide here, but until Sharesight is 'real time data' linked to 'real time trades', showing a 'right now' portfolio and cash position, an App for phones or tablets really isn't a big priority for me. It would be nice, but not a must-have. I might be different than others, but I don't stay logged in to Sharesight during the day monitoring my positions or buys and sells, because it's not real time, its end-of-day data ... so I'm happy to see/update my buys and sells, and portfolio position at a later date, or login via the browser version (even on my phone if necessary). I'm not really sure what people expect will be so alluring that makes a phone/tablet app a priority, expect if you've only got a phone/tablet and can't stand using the web version. I'd rather see the the development effort and expense going in to growing the core platform functionality.

I want an app but this is nothing to do with anything real time as you see it. I am of course just a hobby investor and do not have buy and sells going on all the time. But, when I am lying on my couch, on the train to work, in a hotel or in fact anywhere where a desktop is not right in front of me; I want to see how much my investments are worth and I don't want to wait until I am sitting in front of a PC to do so. I want to know it right here and now. Why might I want to know it right here and now? Well I am a guy that lives on my phone and am always on the go. Imagine this situation. I am on the train to work and I pull down my today screen on the iPhone. The first thing I see is a list of green and red for all the stocks I track and a lot of them where I own shares. Then the next thing I would like to know is what impact this green and red (shares going up and down) has on my investment worth on different portfolios. I want to know this now and want to know it with sharesight in a convenient app. Yes, I could use another portfolio app to do this, but then I need to maintain this app with my trades and different portfolios. This is not an acceptable workaround. These situations are common for me being from a generation that expects apps and instant access to my information especially when I pay a software company good monthly money for it. This might allow you to see another perspective from another persons needs.. I am sure there are others similar to my need.

I would like to hear from other people that want the app, as to their needs and to hear how an initial app might help them..

I am pretty surprised to see feedback on this from someone that doesn't want the app? Why would you search comments in Sharesight to see if you can comment on something that you don't want Sharesight to do? In this day and age if you aren't producing an app you are behind the game, it's really that simple. I can't stress to you enough how important this is for my bosses. Please push it up the development chain.

  • Hi All,

We appreciate your feedback and the fact that a mobile app is a popular request.

A mobile app could take many different forms and solve many different problems.

What is helpful to us is feedback on why you (as a customer) want a mobile app, for example:

    • What problem do you have that a mobile app could solve ?

    • What's your use case (be as specific as possible ?

    • Why is this the most important thing that we could to add value for you ?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Scott, from my perspective I use the iPhone app 'Ticker' and Sharesight to track my portfolio.

Ticker does a great job of showing me what is happening that day - Sharesight doesn't do this (or claim to). Sharesight provides better analysis and reporting tools and I have a better 10000 foot view using your service.

For me, I would like your app to replace 'Ticker' so I can remove the need to double up maintaining my data in two places. Ideally, the app would focus on up to the minute information, the desktop version would provide the wider view and reporting it does now.

  • Hi All,

I know many of you have been waiting a very long time for Sharesight to start work on a mobile app.

Well, I'm really pleased to announce that that day has arrived!

We've developed an initial proto-type that is currently available as a browser app. In the interests of getting some early feedback, we've made this version publicly available while we continue development.

To try out this early version of our mobile app you'll need to do the following:

    1. Navigate to the following URL on your mobile device:

    https://sharesight-mobile.sharesight.com

    2. Save the URL to your homescreen

    3. Click on the new Sharesight mobile reader icon and enter your login details - these are the same as your existing account details.

    4. Try it out!

Please note this early version is buggy. It's likely the first thing you'll see when trying to open the mobile app is a warning message stating that the sharesight reader is unavailable. Simply click the 'Try again' link and you should be taken to the homescreen.

Points for the first person to spot the one typo we are aware of!

We'd really appreciate some feedback on this early version - simply post a reply on this channel. In the meantime we are continuing development on the product and are aiming to release an official version to the Apple app store and Google play later in the year.

    Regards
    Ben

    • Hi Ben, upon using Sharesight reader more, I have come to the opinion that a drill down for each entity would be the best way to display more information. Then you will have a lot more real estate to work with. For me we should put as much information as possible into they new drilled down page just like in the full version of Sharesight. Cheers
    • Thanks John,

We tend to share that view here as well. We've started to work on providing further info after drilling into each holding.

This info will include among other things the current price and shareholding, but also a whole bunch of additional info that we currently provide.

Our first actual packaged release on the Apple app store will not contain this drilled down view initially, but given we are currently working on it, that additional info won't be far behind.

      Regards
      Ben

  • Hi Thomas,

The Sharesight mobile reader is designed specifically for mobile phones. It's not really intended for use on a tablet at this stage.

Having said that, can you outline what didn't work? In theory, you should be able to browse to:
https://sharesight-mobile.sharesight.com on most devices and be able to login etc.

Also, please note that we are getting close to releasing the Sharesight reader onto the Apple app store and Google play.

I will update this channel closer to the go live date of our 'official' mobile app.

  • Hi All,

I'm very pleased to announce our mobile app is available in the Apple store.

For those of you who have an iphone 5 or newer simply do a search for Sharesight in the app store and you'll find the app.

The version available in the store is essentially identical to the one available at
    https://sharesight-mobile.sharesight.com.

However we are progressing well on an updated version which offers a more detailed look into each holding and deals with some of the suggestions raised on this forum topic.

I will update this blog when we have released the app to the google store.

Please jump in and comment should you have any issues at all with the new official app available on the Apple store.

    • Hi Steven,

      Thanks for your feedback.

We do have a number of features that we are currently working on adding to the mobile reader and we will continue growing it's functionality over time. The consolidated view is one of these.

As for changing the criteria and getting that alert, that does seem a little odd. Typically that should only appear when there is a connection issue with the internet from your phone.

I will investigate that issue further, I'm sure there are plenty of improvements we can make to ensure the mobile reader becomes an increasingly reliable and useful tool.

      Thanks again for your comments.

  • Just downloaded the app. Wasn't able login.

I usually login to the main site using my gmail account, but this doesn't seem to be an option with the Sharesight Reader app ?

    Have I missed something ?
    • Hi Brian,

Google sign on isn't available in this first release unfortunately. But it is at the top of our list of priorities.

In the meantime you can change your password on the website which would allow you to login using a separate Sharesight specific password.

However, please note that by using this approach you would lose the benefit of google's 2 factor authentication (assuming you use this additional security measure).

Either way, we are working to have google sign on available on the mobile app as soon as possible.

Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.

      Regards
      Ben

I login, click on my portfolio, it displays my stocks and immediatly pops up the 'view criteria' dialog, and there is no way to dismiss this dialog so the app is essentially useless.

The app, like Sharesight generally, needs 20 minute delayed stock prices...not end of day. I would have focused on this first....cough, cough.....and my bug bear of no cash tracking functionality.

Guys, as an early correspondent re the need for a mobile app, may I personally congratulate the Sharesight Team for their effort in bringing it about. Well done guys! None of us appreciate nuisance customers telling us what's best for their business; however, your proactivity in ensuring Sharesight remains at the cutting edge and ahead of its competitors, is in my opinion a win/win for both Sharesight and its customers. Thank you guys! An appreciative customer, Mike

  • Hi All,

We have now finished the initial work on our stage 2 development of the mobile reader and included a few additional features that have been suggested on this forum.

The changes are not yet available on the Apple or Google play stores yet, but you can browse to the following address on your mobile and see the updates we've made:

    https://sharesight-mobile.sharesight.com

We've added a number of features since I last commented on this forum, here's a few notes on the major changes:

    1. Cash Accounts are now displayed
    2. Quantity is displayed when you expand a holding
    3. Holding drill-down - Click on an individual holding to view

    A. Holding Overview details - including price chart and other info

    B. Trade and Income details

    C. News Feed

I'd really like to get some feedback on what you think of these additions before we release to the Apple and Google play stores.

Note: we do have a few tweaks to make to the payout form, particularly for Australian investors.

This release does not include consolidated views.

Also, while this release will not include google sign-in, we are actively developing that feature now.

I look forward to your feedback.

I would like the "Since" setting to be maintained. I use "This Financial Year" and it always goes back to "Since inception", and I have to change it for each portfolio.

    • Hi ben,
If you close the app, as required for an iOS update or an update of the app itself, it reverts to "since first purchase". I use this financial year.

Will we be able to view consolidated portfolios in the app? Perhaps it is there, but doesn't show up.
      John
    • Hi John,

At this stage we don't store the period setting within the mobile reader, so it will revert when we release new upgrades etc.

We do have a task to introduce the period setting as a stored value but I think it will take us some time to get to this piece of work. In the meantime we are not expecting too many releases coming up, so hopefully we can keep this sort of annoyance to a minimum.

We have no immediate plans to show the consolidated portfolio on the app. For various reasons showing the consolidated view is going to take some effort and we would prefer to focus on other features at this point.

I'll keep an eye out on this feature idea and if we get a lot of interest in it we can re-assess.

      Regards

  • Hi,

I tried to update but it says the new version is not compatible with my device. What are the min requirements? Im on andriod 4.4.2
    • Hi Daniel,

I should have mentioned in my earlier post that as part of this release we decided to set a minimum Android version of 5.0

It was a difficult call for us to make, but a number of our users on earlier Android versions have been experiencing performance issues. To tackle this we did carry out some performance improvements, but these improvements only really work on Android Versions 5.0 and above.

Because we didn't want more Sharesight customers experiencing performance issues when downloading the mobile reader we decided it was better to not offer the mobile reader at all for these few clients and therefore raised the minimum requirements.

I realize this is probably a bit frustrating and not an ideal solution, so apologies for any inconvenience this causes.

You can however continue using the current version indefinitely.

      Regards
      Ben
