Anyone understand why SBP would crash (every time) just as it finishes downloading a file from Dropbox?

Hi Benjamin,
Can you give us some more details, please?

Are you on a 1st gen iPad or iPad 2?

Can you tell us about the files you are downloading? Is it an image or a PSD file? Is it a large file size? Are they files originally created and uploaded from SketchBook, or are they files from somewhere else?

Thanks.

Benjamin,

This could be a case where the file is too large.

Are you getting either of these warning, listed below, before the crash?

- "PSD document exceed limits"

- "Warning! Layers might be cropped or not all layers will be importing"

No warnings at all. The progress bar moves all the way to the right and as soon as you'd expect the file to show up in the gallery--home screen.

I thought the file size might be the issue before I posted. It was 2 or 3k pixels squared, so I shrunk it down to less than the reolution of the iPad and ended up with the 11.4mb file.

What is the file size limitation?

Hey,

I just imported an 11.4Mb 6 layer PSD without any issues.
Then I opened a bunch of other apps, and SketchBook crashed in the background and wouldn't let me re-open with the PSD active. I needed to close a handful of the other apps to get SBP running again.

So maybe try closing some apps in the Multi-tasking tray and see if that works.

Solved!

I finally realized that this file was not native PSD after all. It was created in Pixelmator and saved as PS file, which I guess works for opening it in PS, but not SBP. I opened the file in PS, re-saved it and now it imports perfectly.

Maybe I could have used the larger original file.

Anyway, thanks!

That is great information, Benjamin. Maybe worth a try on that larger original file... let us know how it goes.

And thanks to Kyle, we are doing some file size tests too. Kyle's been trying outo larger and larger files and also firing up additoinal apps. There definitely is an upper limit from both the prespective of file size and, it seems, what you have multi-tasking.
These types of crashes are actually caused by running out of device memory.
