Issues when Rotate Canvas is enabled

I have updated my machine to 64 bit. SBP works OK, but after enabling
"Rotate Canvas" option and restarting the program, it loads EXTREMELY
SLOWLY. Takes about 20 minutes for it to come up fully. The tool windows are grayed out. If I click on on the top menu to open a file, the entire SBP program instantly crashes and disappears.

Before I updated to 64 bit, SBP worked fine with Rotate Canvas enabled.

If I delete my SBP preferences file, it opens normally - but without
the rotate canvas function.

If you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I use
the Rotate Canvas function all the time and it's one of the things I
love about the program.

When you upgrade your OS to 64 bit, make sure that you install the correct 64 bit display driver as well.

Window 7 drives most of the graphic cards automatically, however, in order to have the best performance enabled you need to download and install the graphic driver manually.

Note: Some graphic cards, particularly on older machines, do not properly support the Rotate Canvas feature and will result in the same performance issues described above. For SketchBook Pro to run properly on these machines, the Rotate Canvas feature will need to remain disabled.

I have a brand new computer, GeForce 540M GPU, quad i7, more than capable hardware to be able to run this software. I've never had issues on any other older computer I've used, I updated my drivers manually to the latest driver from NVIDIA and SBP 11 is unusable when I have rotate canvas selected. Not exactly thrilled by this.

2010 same issues. It comes to a crawling halt. Unchecked it works fine. I'm confused as to how this is not working. It also didn't run on the pre-installed drivers from Windows 7.

I believe the 540M supports Optimus but only if the vendor enabled this feature. If possible, I would see if you can try to set a profile for SketchBook in the Nvidia control panel that forces the driver to use the discrete Nvidia card.

Can you tell us which laptop you have? (Make and model).

I am experiencing the same problem. This is a massive problem for me as not having the option to rotate the canvas reflects in my drawings. I have both sketch book pro 2011 and sketchbook design. In sketchbook design I do not experience the problem with rotating the canvas but it does not feature the same tools as pro.

This is a problem which I feel must be urgently addressed. SBP is so close to being a brilliant piece of software but this problem just renders it average.

Good news (at least for me) -- downloading the latest version of SBP (SP4/5.5.2), and the latest Wacom drivers (6.3.3-4) solved the problem on my Win7 setup.

Glad to find a more technical explanation for what was going on. If I opened sketchbook on my main monitor with a pretty good graphics card it would be fine. But any time i opened it in my cintiq the backgound would be black and the tool windows would freeze and trail across the screen. After raging a few times and reinstalling the cintiq and sketchbook software i discovered it was the 'Rotate Canvas' option in preferences. The newly installed graphics card that the cintiq is plugged into must not be powerful enough to support the rotate option. Problem solved, rage relieved. It's just irritating to know that the monitor card can support the rotate option but the cintiq card can't.

I was excited to upgrade to Sketchbook Pro 6 and love the feature set. However, I'm so disappointed to discover this rotate canvas situation AFTER upgrading.

I have an above average machine yet the rotate canvas preference is greyed out. Sadly, 90o rotation increments is bitterly laughable, as there's not even an arbitrary option. Couldn't it at least have gone to 45o?

Guys, I have loved Sketchbook since Alias, but it's hard to believe this. This one small discrepancy makes the software unusable for the work I do. Why is THE ONE omission always the most important? It's (almost) as baffling as the lack of shortcut keys in Designer.

As mentioned in other posts, we cannot communicate the exact content of upcoming releases. But we are actively looking into this rotate issue, so stay tuned.

I am also experiencing issues when rotate canvas is enabled. Performance is fine but for some reason when the rotate canvas option is checked my screen exhibits a weird image "jitter". The best way to describe it is what you may see if you experience a power surge. (Initially that's what i thought it was) The screen just kind of jumps. The really strange thing is that when SBP is open with rotate canvas enabled it affects the ENTIRE system. I can switch over to photoshop and will get the same jitter. Close SBP or disable rotate canvas and the symptoms completely disappear.

System:
Win 7 pro (latest updates)
Core i5 3570k
radeon hd 7770
sbp 6

Hi Nope,

You should already be able to rotate the canvas using the initial version of 6.0 on Mac and Wins7. The 6.0's problem was on Vista and Xp.

You simply need to enable the canvas rotation option in the general preferences, as was the case in 5.0

Hi there,
I just upgraded to version 6 as I thought it might fix my rotation woes.

I have a cintiq plugged in to a dell xps l501x. It has a geforce gt 420M.

The rotation slow down is still present and completely ruins skechbook for me.
Should my machine be able to cope with the rotation feature enabled or do i need a better graphics card?

Hope you can help

Jake

I have a Toshiba L505D-S5983. Running Windows 8.1. The graphics card is an AMD Radeon Mobility 4100.

When I run SBP6, it says the video card is installed incorrectly and that rotate has been disabled.

I am experiencing this whilst running SBP version 6.2.4 it is the latest version as of March 18 2014.

Also, my Wacom tablet does not recognize the program and treats with the 'All other' program mode.
