Negative rapidshare timer

When downloading as free on rapidshare.com and waiting for multiple downloads on multiple tabs, occassionally some of them have a negative timer.

I remember that's shown when a file is so small, in this case the Rapidshare's download timer doesn't appear (seems to be this timer is shown only when a file is bigger that 1MB).

Originally you don't have to wait for download this short file (it's like this timer will be started at 0 seconds). Possibly SkipScreen stays waiting indefinitely, so download boxes don't appear and timer starts to be shown in negative (remember, the first original value was 0 for this short file).

Other thing I remember was it could be shown after a normal counting:
n.. 9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1..0..(-1)..(-2)..(-3)..(-4)..(-5)..(-6)..(-7)..(-8)..(-9)..(-n).

For me, that happened when I was using Flukke's GreaseMonkey Script instead of SkipScreen. Possibly you're having the same bug in your add-on as Flukke had with his script.

It was lower than -10000 so something is just wrong. Also, the file is 100MB, although I notice that sometimes if you're trying to download past your limit they'll let you download and give you a very small file thats not what you wanted (with the same name).

Yes, this happens for me too. Does anybody know if the negative timer adversely affects the time it takes for the user to get a download ticket?

I don't think this is a rapidshare size problem. Earlier versions of skipscreen worked fine, I think its due to a skipscreen update. I've tried to download 200mb files with RS and it goes negative. If I disable ss for rs, then it immediately starts countdown at 137 seconds. I'd like to install an earlier version of SS to validate that a recent update caused the problem.

137 seconds? I'll have a look. I've only seen double-digits counts during my tests, so that's useful info. I'll check that specifically. I'm working on RS issues this week.

Unfortunately, I think the negative-timer bug has been around a while, but you're welcome to try older versions.

I've had connection problems, so maybe its caused by a connection drop? That's something to consider.

Ok, I think I can help. When I disable skipscreen, The advanced download settings is collapsed and Teleglobe #2 is selected.
When I enable skipscreen, the advanced download settings is expanded and the 2nd option (in this case, level(3) #4) radio button is selected.
It appears that something is different in how skipscreen selects the download radio button and instead selects the 2nd option in advanced download settings..

SkipScreen doesn't make any download selections; whatever is selected is set by default or by cookies, not in the SS-code.

Alfonso, are you getting the negative-timer for every single RS download (the subject of this topic) ?

Or are you clicking the download button? Don't click!

We're still looking into the negative-timer issue.

The negative timer occurs when Rapidshare is too busy and you get to the Error screen that says "Currently a lot of users are downloading files. Please try again in 2 minutes or become a Premium member". Skipscreen sees this and starts a two minute timer, but Skipscreen doesn't refresh teh screen when the timer hits zero. Instead, the timer goes negative.

No, I do not click the download button. Definitely, it did not work and that happened after I updated the application-skipcreen. I had to uninstall it until a solution might be found.

Or NoScript (needs to Whitelist any domains you use SkipScreen on). And what exactly you are seeing -- error-messages, RS displays, etc. Can you provide a screenshot?

Hi
I have negative timer problem only when there are no free slots left on RapidShare, so it asks you to retry in 2 minutes. SkipScreen timer goes from 2:00 downwards to 0:00, then 0:0-1, 0:0-2, etc.
I get this issue only with no free slots screen, but when there is this situation, timer always goes to negative. Hope this helps.

olezhka is right - SkipScreen will get messed up (negative countdown) when RapidShare's response is that you need to wait 2 minutes for a retry due to traffic volume.

This does not occur only when no slots are available, it can also happen when you are already downloading. I've honestly seen no rhyme or reason, but it's rather frustrating. At the very least, Skipscreen should reset/reload once it gets to -60 or so, rather than counting indefinitely.

I have the same problem with no availiable slots every night. In the morning i see all skipscreens have counted down to MINUS 800 ore more, so a solution of limiting the countdown to a smaller negative number might do the trick.

So far for me it has only happened when there are no slots available. I am running FF 3.5.5 and SS 0.1.10042009. The only other add on installed by me is ABP 1.1.1.
Once the no slots cleared up, I was able to refresh all the tabs (all were negative values) and they went back to normal again. I would agree that setting a reset trigger for a negative value of 5 to 15 minutes would resolve this issue.

What I've noticed is during about half the day rapidshare says it doesn't have enough free download slots available and sets the 2 minute timer for you to try again, skipscreen tries again in 2 minutes and if you like me, have 1/2 a dozen or more rapidshare tabs open in firefox trying to let it work itself out well.... when I check a couple hours later in the browser back history it's tried to download like 20+ times and the timer gets stuck on negative 700 something.
