Problems with Rapidshare blocking the use of the skipscreen

Rapidshare seems like to have find a way to block skip screen. It was fine until saturday. Every time I tried skipscreen, the site shows a message about an error in Javascript.

It's still working fine for our tests on a URL like http://rapidshare.com/files/258900149...

Do you have a different type of URL?

What exactly is the error-message that you're seeing? And what is the behavior of SkipScreen after the error?

Are you visiting links that open in a framed-window?

We have other reports, and are seeing "SkipScreen error: document.body is null" for digg-bar framed links like http://digg.com/u31BW7

Once you click "OK" everything continues.

We are looking into this situation.

Hi, if I want to download files from http://rapidshare.com/files/117113286..., I'm always get the message "ERROR: IP address modified. (ef166e23). " at my firefox. I've tried to download several times at different times but I still get the same error message. I am really disappointed with skipscreen. Please fix this problem immediately, thanks.

Elton, are you using any other extensions, or visiting the RapidShare links through something like or another url-shortener?

yes, asking for a list of extensions is good. to facilitate that have them install an extension to list extensions. better yet develop- and post a userscript to do this. honesty oft will not trump ignorance ;)

OtherMichael, I'm having this problem too! I don't use any kind of url-shortener or other extensions! I just want to download ebooks, and when I enter in the site, they enable a link to rapidshare! When I click on it, the rapidshare enters, normally! But when I click to download, this happens.

When does that error appear -- after the SkipScreen timer has counted down?

Are you clicking on anything, or are you letting SkipScreen automate the wait?

Try the following link: http://rapidshare.com/files/258900149...

Just worked for us, again.

We have noticed that the "download" button is visible - this is new; SS used to make it invisible during the countdown, but something in the RS html has changed. We are working on this.

In the meantime, please let us know if the above link (and no extra clicks) works for you.

So, you don't click anything, and you still get the "javascript must be enabled" message?

Do you have NoScript installed? And whitelisted for skipScreen?

What happens when you disable the RS handler for SkipScreen?

That is correct, I don't click anything and I still get the message.
I don't have NoScript installed but I do have flashblock.
This is a strange new symptom, I disabled skipscreen for rapidshare and it still tried to skip the waiting screen. I also whitelisted rapidshare in flashblock just to make sure that wasn't interfering in anything and it didn't change the outcome. Even with skipscreen disabled for rapidshare it still tries to skip the waiting screen, and I still get the javascript error.

Not able to reproduce that behavior -- when I disable SkipScreen-RapidShare, nothing happens.

But you've got it disabled (please, double-check?) and yet you're still getting the green SkipScreen box in the lower-left, and a count-down in the tab's title-bar? You're using the 07282009 release?

oblivion2k, you have to restart your browser. I'm seeing the same message yuukosakura sees (after I click on the "Download" button), but If I disable skipscreen and then restart Firefox, I can download the file without skip screen starting (of course, since Skip Screen is disabled, I have to wait for the counter).

edit: I just checked to see what would happen if I don't click the "Download" button (when skip screen is enabled). Skip screen doesn't activate at all (although I still see Skip Screen's green bar at the bottom of the firefox window). I wait for the counter to count down (about 50 seconds) and then I can download the file just as if I had Skip screen disabled.

yes, I see the timer in the title bar. If I don't click the blue "Download" button, it counts down from about 50 seconds and I can download the file.

Just double-checked my settings and yes, rapidshare is disabled in skipscreen's options.
No green skipscreen box or count-down, but the page is somehow being skipped through as if skipscreen was trying to skip the waiting page for me. After it goes though all of it's steps I am left with the "Please check if your browser supports javascript" message.

If there is no SkipScreen box in the lower-left, SkipScreen isn't working -- that's the first thing it does, long before anything else ever happens. If that fails, no page-skipping can occur. Additionally, if a particular skipper is disabled, ditto.

Can you disable SkipScreen entirely(via Tools >> Addons >> SkipScreen >> disable ) and see what happens?

What version of SkipScreen are you using?

Same problem here, as reported - and showed - by yuukosakura ref. RapidShare complains about javascript. But the solution seemed simple when I tried it: when the big button "Download" appears DO NOT CLICK ON IT. Just wait a few seconds and the countdown starts (normally from 150 seconds). The countdown appears right in the tab name.

So, if you still have to wait 150 seconds then Skipscreen is NOT working.

[quote]So, if you still have to wait 150 seconds then SkipsSreen is NOT working.

Er, what? That's normal SkipScreen behavior. If you don't like having the wait automated by SkipScreen there are two options -- 1) uninstall SkipScreen and manually wait and press the buttons yourself 2) buy a premium membership, don't wait, and push the buttons yourself.

sounds less like the possibility rapidshare blocked skipscreen, i have the same issue and studied it for a bit to see if i could locate a solution, and i think i came up with the cause. its a script error in rapidshare's website caused by skipscreen, the website is set to operate by the timer (rapidshare source is a bit more advanced then a few others) and when the download button is clicked but the timer is still counting (meaning your doubling the download buttons only 1 of them is timed the other is auto launched by skipscreen) which causes an odd script error which is by default set to show the error message you see. a solution would be found most likely by killing the original process on the website (the timer and all other components dealing with average operation which may cause a server error) then launching the new one. when altering and cloning the process (what it currently does seeing as the timer runs even though skipscreen already launched the download button) you should always expect an error for the site is not designed to handle the odd case of an extra button not to mention such a thing is most likely logged by the server due to repetitive attempts and the owners and admins are looking into it by now. the solution again is to kill the original process first then relaunch the process excluding the timer but you need to ensure the process still syncs with everything before and after the timer script so that the website is still capable of running without the timer and is not trying to launch the timer (if it launches the timer it will continue from there causing a parallel script launch resulting in a server error) this message is primarily for the developers of skipscreen since they are the ones who deal with fixing the skipscreen sourcecode, i do not advise any of you to tamper or try to fix the issue on your own without knowing what your doing, such a thing requires knowledge of how the rapidshare source code works and how the skipscreen program works not to mention requires profecientcy of one or more computer languages. and also this is an in-theory solution, it is only minimally researched and does not guarantee results but it may bring results or lead to a solution , again please leave this level of repair and research to the skipscreen developement team i am not liable for any damages wether legal, financial, or property caused by use of this information

well im new to the program so i havent had time, not to mention i a beta tester for nearly 40 other programs which include visual studio 2010 , windows 8 (private source) , and a few others. the solution seemed to just become clear to me so since i had the info on hand i thought id share some insight (im also a frequent rapidshare user and this comes as a major benefit to me) . id be glad to help if you need anymore assistance id rather just stick to advising however , i have alot of projects im working on and dont really have enough time to do on side coding ( working on a number of projects, which include yet not limited to operating systems, gfx programs (high end commercial style programs with support for 3d and 2d uses), new cpu units (new rexion unit designs 1-4 are finished 5-8 are nearly finished, i plan to use funding from software sales to pay for manufacturing costs and from salesof all production put recycling facilities in place to save on raw matirial costs)) as you can tell im one of the higher level programmers in the industry, i have skills for quite a few computer languages which include yet are not limited to: assembly, c , c++ , c# , php, ajax, javascript, flash, action script , etc. ive obtained skills and insight from most types of programmers (assembly and microprocessor design training were from both intel and a top college research facility currently researching quantum computing technologies (the basis of the rexion microprocessor design (C) copyright 2008-2009 Yamika systems inc. all rights reserved.) my c++ training was from many industry leaders (first source was microsoft, then borland , and my final c++ training was an ebook written by the creator of c++) most of my security ystems management training was from various hacker sources for even though quite a few low level hackers are the cause of threats they are also masters of computer security for you must know the target before even dreaming of exploiting it however i follow the guidlines of the real hackers, not script kiddies , which are that the art of exploitation (hacking) should be used to better technologies and expand ones knowledge not to be misused to cause foolish point blank harm (this is a shortened version of the guidline the real hackers follow almost all computer attacks are caused by a low level hacker who misused access to free-for-everyone information meant to allow others to learn from and make ethical use of yet is misused by show offs) i do not state this to brag in anyway, such skills are learnable by all so there is no reason to brag rather i encourage learning alot of it to expand the world of technology but again the reason i state this is to first provide my qualifications to ensure you know any information you recieve from me is legitimate i again do not guarantee results of coarse as no programmer should guarantee but i do state that the information i provide is from my multiple years of study in the fields of technology which span in many branches from software to hardware, id rather you be aware that my information is dependable to a large extent rather then just state solutions without you knowing my skillset background. my apologies for the longer message but as the owner of a technology developement company (Yamika systems inc.) it is my obligation and is neccessary to reassure that my sources and information is indeed dependable. also if you need any resources to assist the repairing of this issue i am known for my ability toextract information or find information from programming methods and tool to source code rips, rapidshare is a vital resource seeing as many of my sources use it as a primary download medium yet since my credit card is expired and funding is low it is a real issue to obtain a membership and most account borrowing sites (places where premiums are loaned or traded/given) are flooded and cannot provide even for those ahead of me in the waiting list so this is a very important resource and ill gladly offer my knowledge and resources to assist (however my time is not so easily negotiable i can only spare limited time due to a large matrix of complications , im pushing the envelope even offering what i have stated)

my apologies for the typographical errors, yes it is important to keep the type in line correctly but only where neccessary, i unlike others have little to no time, also the way i type is different from most due to nerve damage in my arms and hands (expiramental medicine for a disorder caused most of it and 6 deep blade injuries made it worse, my my arms and hands function poorly) so errors do seem to happen alot when im typing on the fly, but i really do extend my apologies for the errors, it was 1 a.m. i had been working 2 jobs that day, and my arms were worn out. its not easy to be perfect when your in a hurry yet dealing with such a handicap.

that wasnt a very mature joke, im sure this was a more official forum not comedy central and im sure your around the age of 14 or 15 if not your most likely some1 older who never learned to grow up or a younger kid who lacks rspect and controll of himself, please be respectful to others i personally am not bothered by you but id rather you learn early not to mess around because unlike me some others have no tolerance for it, im not a mod but im sure they would rather you be more respectful as well , my apologies i type so much but i no longer write short sentences i prefer to explain in full , if you have an issue with it you are under no obligation to read it if i may state. your issue with reading my para or multipara messages is your own fault do not blame me for i am not forcing you to read it , i just put it up for anyone who may want to read it. and also if you really did try to sue me for such i would counter sue and take everything you own just for giving me trouble, i have my own set of law skills which would add to any my lawyer would have, you would stand no chance. im only stating that so you would learn not all of us will laugh off your childsplay, i personally will let it slide but another like me may not, consider it a lesson learned without having to face drastic consequence, i personally would like to know what you have against me though, if your going to hold a mysterious grudge at least do me the honor of telling me what it is for as the one your against i by default have a right to know.

It seems to work, even if I press download, it pops up with the advanced download options, and I just press download again, and for most of the time, it works, but once or twice, it did display the error like the others. I pressed the back button, then clicked download again, and it seemed to have fixed it. Maybe it's just a minor glitch.

Are you seeing a count-down in the page title? Something like "{SS} 42 Beastie..." ?

That's the timer. It's counting down.

Don't click on the download button.

Now that you mention it, yes, the timer is counting down. But isn't the point of skipscreen to also be able to skip the wait times? I guess the change in RS's source code has reduced your functionality? Well that's ok I guess, its still good since it skips the middle pages. But I don't know why the server choice page flashes in the middle. That doesn't come up normally when I click through the options manually.

Rapidshare support seems to be broken for me too... not 100% of the time though. The problem seems to occur when Rapidshare is busy and I get the "We regret that currently we have no available slots for free users".

The Skipscreen counter starts but when it gets to 0 it keeps counting down and goes into negative numbers. It will continue counting into the negatives indefinitely. See attached screenshot.
