Applicant profile page redesign

Following the usability improvements to the job page, we are now proceeding with a complete revamp of the applicant page. With this revamp we are introducing a number of new features.

  1. Quick review of applicant profile:

The top of the page summarizes candidate's profile so that you can quickly scan to evaluate whether the candidate is a good match for your position. This section is followed by a detailed resume with added information, for further review, if needed.

  2. Stay in control:

    1. The status bar and job-related information on the top right, give you a quick summary of where this candidate is with respect to the job s/he has applied to. See where you are with this candidate and what your colleagues think of the candidate (overall average rating). This job-related information followed by the ability to quickly rate or perform other candidate actions, makes it easy to communicate with the candidate.

  3. All the recent activity related to this candidate is displayed in the recent activity section. Get complete report of what your colleagues have to say, when s/he is scheduled for an interview etc. The “See all” link in this area, gives you the complete candidate history.

  • Hiring made easy:

Automated candidate status updates keeps you informed and in control of the hiring process. We have updated candidate statuses to a more meaningful list (new, in-review, interviewing, offered, accepted, hired, rejected or withdrawn). The status is also automatically updated based on your actions and communication with the candidate (example: Sending an invite to the applicant automatically changes its status from In-review to Interviewing)

This looks great! I would like to add a suggestion that this can be improved by making it easier for returning applicants to log back into a previously created account when applying for new positions. As it stands currently, most of my applicants tend to create a new application/resume submission for each job which not only creates system duplication, but negates the potential benefit of the seeing full candidate history in one page.

We'd also love to see an expansion to candidate status codes to include such items as 1"st interview", "2nd interview", "Offer Extended", and declination reasons either from company or applicant standpoint.

In any case though, I love the new presentation!

I am in agreement with Dave. Coming from a Firm's point of view, an expansion to the candidates status would be beneficial, as oppose to multiple entries into the "Feedback" section

    • I agree 100% with Dave. It would be most beneficial to have the additional status codes and also force candidates to sign-in under a user name rather than create a new profile everytime they want to apply for a position. It would be wonderful to see their entire history (all jobs that they applied for and any updates from the employer side).

    • Thanks for the comments. Some considerations/answers:

We will be working on a consolidated version of history across multiple applications/jobs along with a re-usable generic profile for applicants. This is a great idea. It won't come immediately but it's definitely on the roadmap.

Regarding candidate stages, we are tracking the main stages : New, Review, Interview, Offer, Offer Accepted, Hired, Withdrawn, Rejected. Also, Reason for rejection has been added a few weeks ago (for OFCCP reasons mainly) so you should be able to use that.

We won't however take the system in the direction of more statuses (interview 1, interview 2, test, ...). In my experience, this creates more friction/administration than benefits. We want to move away from Applicant Tracking per say and enable a more collaborative and social way of recruiting.

Hi HR in PA, you can select the reason for rejecting when you hit "Reject" to an applicant:

Your entries will be included in the Applicant Flow Report and also on the updated Applicant List, which is coming very soon.
      • Nik - Thanks for the additional info. However, I do not send letters to the applicants. Any chance of getting the option to select reject reason on the applicant page under the "Application Details" section, which is where I typically make a status change? If you select "rejected" a box could pop up to allow for a reject reason.

HR in PA - thanks for the feedback! Just wondering what your reason is not to send an email to applicants notifying them that they have not been selected?

In the last section where the additional information mentions EEO...shall we see what the candidate specified or will that remain anonymous as before? I like this new feature...it definitely enables us to see a lot of useful information about a candidate on a single screen versus clicking back and forth...

    • Nik- It is not part of our standard practice to notifity each and every candidate that applies and we are not interested in starting. Not all of our applicants come in through Smart Recruiters, so they we would have to manually send letters to the ones who do not. We only contact those who we are interested in speaking with. I hope that you will consider making an option to select a rejection reason on the applicant page and not only when sending a rejection letter, as this info is vital to our process for our Affirmative Action Plan.
      • The same goes for us. Even we do not send rejection letters to all the applicants, just the ones whom we have interviewed/contacted. We mention it in our ad that "you will be contacted only if your credentials match with the position requirements'. Once we make an initial contact, we do inform them whether their application will move forward or not. So what HR in PA is suggesting will work well for us too.

Hi everyone, just an update that the new Applicant profile page has been implemented. As for the other topic here: we are working on implementing the reasons for rejection.
