Rejecting an Applicant Without Email

I noticed after a recent update that I can't tag an applicant in the system as rejected without being forced to send a rejection email. This was not the case before one of the recent upgrades to the SmartRecruiters platform. Is there a way to override this email requirement? As a recruiter, it is not always necessary to send out a rejection email and open up a discussion/debate with a candidate concerning the reasons for the rejection. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
