No notification for 100% goal?

I hit 100% on a goal for the first time yesterday... I was expecting an email telling me to buy some gift cards, or just to say "Hey, you hit a goal", but so far nothing.

Aside from being a missed opportunity for SmartyPig to market some of the redemption options, what good is a goal structured tool that doesn't actually tell me when I have hit 100%?

@dcoulson,

We don't trigger the "goal met" email until the funds have adequately cleared so you can immediately close your goal upon receiving the email. This was done this way based on user feedback over the past couple of years.

Thanks.

That would make sense, however as soon as I hit 100% the giant pink "Redeem Goal!" button appeared next to the goal on the website. When I click on it, I get:

"Goals cannot be closed until all funds have cleared and are verified by our partnering financial institution. Provided there is no more activity in this goal, you may close this goal on 10/21/2010."

I understand the need to clear funds before the goal can be closed, but by the same logic as delaying the email, should the 'Redeem Goal" button not be there if one can actually not close the goal?

Ahhh that's a GREAT point. I totally agree. I sent your suggestion on to our dev team. We should be able to get this implemented in our next build.

Thanks again. Feedback always appreciated.

Just as a fwiw, the dev team was already informed of the issue in dcoulson's 2nd post (above) 2 months ago. See: http://getsatisfaction.com/smartypig/...

Slightly different issue, since you are talking about the general 'stop goal' option, rather than the 'Redeem Goal' button that shows up when it hits 100%. The 'stop goal' option is actually somewhat useful since it actually tells you when you can stop the goal, but I agree with your other post as far as confusion goes :-)

Well that brings up another point, imho. There didn't used to be any "Redeem Goal" links on the SP web site not so long ago. Now we see "Stop Goal" and "Redeem Goal" - and I would submit the distinction between the two are probably lost on nearly 100% of the SP users. And indeed, I'm not seeing the need to use the words "Redeem Goal" only some of the time and "Stop Goal" other times. Me-thinks the words "Redeem Goal" is more accurate. So my unsolicited vote is to just use those words anywhere "Stop Goal" is found.
