The Only time you can Invite Friends to a Group is if you yourself Created the Group in which your attempting to Invite, otherwise anyone on the site that is a Member of that Group would be able to Invite there Friends, so in cases where the Group Creator is particular to who becomes a Member this would actually be a good thing.

THIS IS FROM
ADMIN
That's a familiar concern, I too ran into this problem.

We're currently updating the friend request and registration.

Perhaps the group invitation is something we can tackle early next year

While yes the Befriending system (outside) of the Group is in works for improvement as far as pre approvals b4 just anyone can add you, I can't Imagine that just anyone would ever have the ability to to add/ Invite Friends to a Group in which they themselves did Not create.

I think what needs to be implemented is permissions within a Group, with this the Group creator can appoint a Group-Moderator, then Only that appointed Moderator of that Group would have the Power to Invite, not just Anyone as this could or have potential to cause conflicts.

I understand what Lori is saying, but I agree that the Creator of the Group should have control of who is invited to their respective groups. Perhaps those that want to invite their friends to the group should just invite them to the network where the group is. Then they can join the groups that they like from within the network.

Right now I am inviting people to join a group but it also invites my friends from other sites in the network. This can be a problem because people who became my friend on another site may not want anything to do with my site. I am having to right down the names of my friends on my site and try not to ask friends from other sites. When you are starting out new you need to invite to groups or people don't join. I am finding it hard to invite members now that I have to be so careful.

OK WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS JUST INVITE THEM TO THE SITE NOT TO HE GROUPS WHEN THEY COME JUST LET THEM DECIDE ON WHAT GROUP THEY WANT TO JOIN . DO YOU SEE A MANUALLY INVITE ?ON YOUR INVITE SETTING ?JUST USE THAT.SEE HOW THAT WORKS

I don't see the manual invite. I find that if a member is invited to a group they may join but if they are not invited they don't look around and try to join. Some will join on their own but most will just join the site. I think joining at least one group is important otherwise what is the point.
Thanks for your help--now if I could help two members that want to change their email addresses--I don't know how to do that.

To change their email addresses they click on settings under their sign in name.
As far as inviting to your groups, whats wrong with sending a message to your members when a new group is formed.
I know the ones that are on my members list because most are family and friends, thats why the invite system was set up like it was. To invite to a site, we use emails that we know from family friends. When we join another site and then add people as friends then go invite them to inside groups, this can be considered spamming as that person did not give us permission to send to their emails.
So just send your members a message about your groups. That pretty well solves the problem.

This is where all the problems started on Ning...Everyone was complaining that they were getting invitations from people on their friends lists...

They changed it to invite with emails instead of friends and it solved the problem...That would be a good idea on here too...

I have received a few complaints from some of my members also...

The way that you increase your members is for your members to invite their friends to your site...

I know of one site that has over 10,000 members and they will delete anyone inviting off of their site no matter who it is...

They grew from members inviting their friends or adding the link to their Myspace or Facebook...
