Call for Android info

  • Announcement
  • Updated 3 years ago
We're looking to add specific support for some of the more common Android devices, but we can't seem to find the info we need anywhere online... so we're asking for your help!

In order to properly identify them when attached to Songbird, we need the USB VID/PID pair for each device. The Vendor IDs are, luckily, internationally-defined standards. But the Product ID codes, which are manufacturer-defined IDs for each model, don't seem to be listed anywhere on the internet. The easiest way to get them is to plug the phone into a computer and access the info through our Devise add-on. After installing it and connecting your device, simply go to Tools > Devise... and click on your device in the list. You can just copy and paste the VID/PID line.

Please add a comment on this thread with the make, model, and carrier of your device, along with the VID/PID pair that you get from Devise.

Thanks so much for helping to improve Songbird! ^_^

The Devise add-on doesn't seem to be working with my Verizon Droid X (may have something to do with me hacking in some custom ROM), but after plugging it into a linux machine and running 'lsusb -v' I see:

idVendor 0x22b8 Motorola PCS
idProduct 0x428c

Again, a Verizon Droid X.

I can confirm this VID/PID for the HTC Desire. It's the same for me in The Netherlands.

According to `lsusb`:
0bb4:0c87 High Tech Computer Corp. Desire

Tried to do this with my Samsung Droid Charge, interestingly, Songbird doesn't seem to like the phone. It sees it when I don't have it set to storage mode (charging only) but as soon as I try to enable usb storage, songbird crashes. And if I try to open it with the phone connected already in storage mode, it just hangs right from startup. I am running two monitors, and from time to time, songbird looks like it isn't hanging any more with the phone attached, until I try to click on something. Unplug the phone, and songbird instantly comes back to life.

It looks like the last two digits of the PID didn't get copied. Can you please add them?

Thanks!

Nope, that's what Devise reports.

This is a Chinese clone-phone, so it has a few... quirks. (For example, serial number as reported by Devise and DDMS is 0123456789ABCDEF :-) )

Feel free to ignore it if the values aren't usable.

Bizarre. Yeah, unfortunately we're just gonna have to ignore it. Does it work properly with Songbird?

Haven't tried; I don't use Songbird on the desktop, I'm afraid. I've started to use Songbird on the phone itself, though.

ah ha! You can also get it from Windows' Device Manager - right-click the device, go to Properties, and in the Details tab select either "Hardware Ids" or "Device Instance Ids". So for the Kindle it reports the PID as 0x0006.

I also have access to a couple of Android 3 tablets (Samsung Galaxy 10", Motorola Xoom), but neither show up in Devise even when they have an SD card. (Android 3 appears to use a different mechanism for mass-storage connection anyway).

Do the other tablets show up in Songbird? What other add-ons do you have installed? It'd be great to have their info as well if we can make it work. ^_^

They connect as portable media players (MTP), not mass storage devices. As such, they do show up in Songbird. I suspect you don't need to do special support for them, unless MTP needs specific per-device support.

Add-ons I have:
CD Rip Support
Concerts
Devise
Gracenote Metadata Lookup Provider
MLyrics
MSC Device Support
MTP Device Support
New Releases
QuickTime Playback
SHOUTcast Radio
Windows Media Playback

Pity, i'd like special support for my Sony WT19i "Live Walkman" phone :-)
In particular, i'd liek its hardware "walkman" button be re-wired to SB :-)

My Droid Charge is mounting (not really working, still, but mounting and occasionally, but not always, visible to Devise) after flashing a new kernel.

Ok - we've got a new version of the add-on available! Go to Tools > Add-ons and click Find Updates. Devices added : Samsung Droid Charge, HTC Desire HD, Amazon Kindle Fire, HTC Desire (TELUS), and Motorola Droid Razr Maxx (XT912).

Thanks for the info so far, and keep it coming!

Hi,

Devise didn't work for me, but on Windows 7 went into Device manager/Portable Devices, right clicked on my phone, clicked Properties/Details, then selected Device Instance ID from the drop-down. Using this link (http://www.lostintechnology.com/windo...) I have hopefully worked out my VID/PID correctly from the string USB\VID_0FCE&PID_0161:

Manufacturer: Sony Ericsson
Model: Xperia ray (ST18)
Vendor ID: 0FCE
Product ID: 0161

Here are my phones and Kindles:

Motorola RAZR:
Model: XT910
Carrier: T-Mobile (Germany)
VID/PID: 0x22b8/0x42d6

Motorola Droid X2:
Model: MB870
Carrier: Verizon
VID/PID: 0x22b8/0x70c7

Kindle (2nd generation, US wireless)
VID/PID: 0x1949/0x02 (0002 according to Properties)

Kindle (4th generation, global wireless)
VID/PID: 0x1949/0x04 (0004)

There seems to be a bug that cuts off the first two digits of any PID that starts with 000.

Yeah, I've seen that bug crop up before. It's annoying. Thanks so much!
