I cant get song bird to recognize my ipod touch. I dont know if it just doesnt support ipod touches but i can seem to get it to work. I really hope that if its not supported it will be in the future. I really like this program and want and alternative to the terrible itunes.

Unfortunately we are not currently supporting the iPod Touch or the iPhone. We have bug 6389 open for this.

Curses! I was hoping my iPhone would be supported. I couldn't imagine how difficult this might be, considering it's tightly locked down from Apple. :( Good luck, guys, I'm hoping for a spot for this on your roadmap!

To be honest, I hope Songbird does not find a spot for this on the road map, unless it really out there. Apple is the one at fault here for restricting what people can do with hardware they own. When I rent hardware from them, I have no problem with it. Apple is putting artificial roadblocks up to control the market and create lock in, that is all. Open standards will win, eventually.

Song bird has much more important things to work on, like podcast support, etc.

I'm sure the developers know this but Amarok manages this by mounting a jailbroken iPod / iPhone over SSH then uses some kind of magic(tm) to transfer the files... Cover art works and everything, maybe songbird could do this for the time being? Would imagine the offical Apple cables have those evil Apple authentication chips built in ruling out syncing to anything but iTunes. Boo hiss at you Apple, but you do make nice hardware.

this would work for all of us with jailbroken ones except you need to sync with itunes for apps and video anyway :(

Couldnt figure out how to put this into bugzilla so I am posting it here
mlipod http://mlipod.sourceforge.net/ now has experimental support for ipod touch 2.x firmware withouth patching the device.

Thought this might help with your endeavors as I am on a Mac and want an alternative to itunes.

Media Monkey can sync to iPhones / iPod Touch. It's not perfect as it only supports music and podcasts and requires itunes to be installed, but it's a start. Only problem is that MM is not open source project.
So it's doable

We still do not support the iPhone or the iPod Touch. Apple has made it very clear that they will do whatever is within their power to prevent other software from interoperating with their hardware. (And vice versa, as the Palm Pre folks found out!) We'll continue to hope that Apple chooses to embrace open standards in the future, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

In the mean time, we've implemented 2-way synchronization between iTunes and Songbird, so that at least Songbird users out there have the option of transferring their Songbird playlists onto their Apple devices.

Ah, so the public finally sees how Apple operates: not just vendor lock-in, but being a jerk about it, too: preventing hackers from doing their job.

Dear friends, please avoid Apple at all costs. They are no better than Microsoft. Well, they're worse, actually.

the bottom of your trash bin will support that iPod Touch pretty well...assuming that the electrostatic forces between the subatomic particles in the atoms that make up the molecules in both the trash can and the iPod Touch exist...which in most cases they do, with the exception of inside a black hole.

The only thing that prevents you and me from simply passing through walls or falling through the floor to the center of the earth's mass are electrostatic forces. They are strong enough in nearly all situations to prevent things from simply passing through one another. Inside a black hole, however, these forces are broken by the force of so much mass so close together. We have no real idea what's inside a black hole because it defies these typical situations where the electrostatic forces are king.

so, your trash can will support your iPod Touch pretty well, unless it's inside a black hole.

I'm saying you should ultimately throw away your iPod Touch.

Simple as that. I really hate iTunes and recently downloaded Songbird in the hopes of using it instead but it doesn't seem to be recognizing my iTouch.

I downloaded the Songbird remote application for my 8gb ipod touch. When i try to select a songbird to connect to, none show up. I installed the add-on that should make it work, but nothing is happening. Is this a common problem?

I just installed songbird on my ubuntu system. I did this mainly because i can't connect my ipod 32 GB touch to any other ubuntuprograms. But i can't see any options for connecting in songbird and it wont appear by it self. It would be great with a little bit of help - my ubuntu skills are limited so an explanation for dummies would be great :)

Will the new songbird work with my ipod touch? I've tried everything and nothing works! I love this program, so much better than itunes, but what good is it to me if it doesn't work with my ipod.

-Vista 64 bit
-Ipod Touch 1st gen.
