My songbird keeps crashing. I'm fucked with this. It plays sometimes for a while, but sometimes I can't even get through a whole song. What's up? please help me. I would like to use songbird as my main music player. I love firefox, it's the best thing since sliced bread! So I'd like to use anything involved with it. It just crashed again, I'm about to start iTunes. Fuck! Please help me.

I know how you feel man. my songbird has crashed more than 5 times today. The only thing i've been doing is playing music and sometimes songbird just decides to crash. Some details for anyone who cares:
Windows XP SP3
1GB RAM
Pentium 4 (2.4GHz)
Songbird 0.7.0

One thing you must remember though Jason is that Songbird is still in its infancy. its still in the beta phase and isn't anywhere near complete. So i'm sure that this, and many other problems will be fixed when songbird 1.0 releases. Until then, songbird will have problems but will keep on improving. This is what keeps me from turning back to itunes. Hopefully a company representative will help you out soon though :)

My Songbird installation has been crashing like crazy since last night.

Unlike most nights, I decided to use the download manager feature in Songbird (instead of Right-Click > "Save link as..."). So, instead of finding the folder I wanted to save it in when I clicked the "Download" button, I type it out*. As soon as I hit Enter, I realize that the folder I typed doesn't exist. So I go into Explorer and create the directory for the mp3. I then noticed that Songbird still didn't download the file. So then, I cancel the download. The it wouldn't cancel. After that happened, I just downloaded the mp3 the way I always do ("Save link as..."). A few minutes later, Songbird crashes. So I start it up and notice that there are three Download tabs in the sidebar, instead of one; only one of them are functional. So I remove the unusable tabs, and go on with my life. 10 minutes later, Songbird crashes again. I restart, now there are 4 Download tabs. This time, I exported my playlist into m3u in case something really bad happened. It crashed 5 minutes later as I scrolled down a Google search results page. This continued for about 20 times until I just gave up.

Oh, and I'm certainly not ready to just replace the profile with a new one. If I do, I'd have to reset all my settings, download all my addons, and worst of all, I'd have to find all my album covers again [well over 400 of 'em].

Now if you don't mind, I'll be off to play Gears 2 while you guys ponder about my dilemma.

*By the way, I set Songbird to ask me where to save a file every time

I have a major problem with mine too.

Whenever I open it once, it will work fine. But if I
a) leave my computer on standby
b) Let my computer go to a screensaver
c) try to add to or modify an mp3 player or its associated playlist

It freezes and crashes. I do love songbird, and I realize its still a beta, but I'd really like to get it to work.

I'm running a Windows XP Service pack 3, with the theme YABS and about 200 songs synced to it already.

Argghh! I hate iTunes. Please DO NOT make me go back! Songbird has the potential to be the iTunes killer. It along with Firefox and other open source works have the potential to lead the revolution against Nazisoft. However, Songbird HAS TO WORK FIRST!

Songbird crashes incessantly. Songs do not play. Songs disappear out of my play lists. The so called duplicate finder called Exorcist does NOTHING! Recently I have been getting an error

playlist.xml - onPlaylistClick - [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsITreeView.getCellProperties]" nsresult: "0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://songbird/content/bindings/playlist.xml :: _onPlaylistClick :: line 1788" data: no]

SOMEONE somewhere has GOT to have some answers. And someone tell the Exorcist author to fix his add on! It does not work!

And no, uninstalls and reinstalls do not resolve the issues.

First: Calm down, please. It's just a Media Player that is not working correct, it's not your cardiac pacemaker. Also I usually don't try to help people who choose to use words like "Nazisoft" or "Exocrap" or who think that an add-on author has to do something, but I give it one try:

Have you tried to create a new Profile with the Profile-Manger, too? This helps me out of a lot of wired problems, sometimes (and a reinstall of Songbird doesn't help usually, because the (corrupt) Profile remains untouched).

About Exorcist: Are you trying to find duplicated files or duplicated library entries? Because Exorcist does only the last thing. So if you have two mp3s of Hasselhoffs "I'm looking for freedom", the exorcist won't mark this as a duplicate. But if you have this mp3 only once, but multiple entries for this single mp3 in the Library, then it should work.

Well, I think they need to. Songbird is too good to not use. For the most part, it is the best media player I have used. Except for the few defects it has, but everything has defects

If Songbird has even the slightest hiccup it crashes without hesitation. If i download a song from a mp3 blog and then go to play another song while it's downloading it's like a 90% chance it'll crash. ANY TIME I see the hour glass "it's working" cursor, it's 100% guaranteed it's about to crash.. it has never once came back from the hour glass working.

Hi all -

If everyone could post a detailed list of steps to reproduce the issues they're seeing, along with OS and Songbird version info, it would be most helpful! That way we can better understand the issue, and get you guys a solution.

Thanks!

I can't even submit the crash reports because connecting to the Internet is what crashes Songbird! i.e. I plug in my 3 mobile broadband USB dongle and Songbird won't load & then usually just crashes whilst hanging my Internet connection too.

Vista Business 32 bit
1Gb RAM
Centrino Duo
latest version of Songbird

Yes, i have a large music library (70+ Gb's),
Yes, i could spend hours reorganising my music library but hope that this (previously) awesome software could automate such a banal task

I only downloaded songbird 2 months ago and have not gone ubercrazy with addons or playlists etc

I really want this to work for me as I believe in the project and it's potential.

Songbird never ever closes properly, I always have to kill it. I struggle with this as an animal lover and pacifist

I'm reporting multiple crashes. Every time I start Songbird and import my songs (about 60GB), it hangs. I have a 1.73gb ram on a Ubuntu 9.04. I'm using the latest Songbird for Linux i686 because I'm not on 64bit linux. Once some imports finish, if I try to play a song, it hangs too. My music are from an external ntfs harddrive. Not sure how to fix this.

1) How much music do you have?
2) On Winamp, have you tried removing the sonic engine (that normally causes issues)
3) If your PC is crashing a lot, is it possible you don't have enough RAM? Windows 7 is uber stable here (only crashed once for me). It could also be possible that your hardware is dodgy too...

1) ± 130 songs
2)Whats a sonic engine? Well, i guess i haven't removed it then
3)My PC never crashes, Only with winamp, Songbird just closes and brings up a crash reporter that doesn't work.
And my Hardware is OK.
3K RAM
And 1K videoRAM
So I ́ll just google that "Sonic Engine" Thing and try to repair Winamp

Sonic is a CD ripping driver you untick during Winamp installation. It has been known to cause issues in the distant past, but since Winamp has been fully tested on Windows 7, I'm strongly doubting that it's the cause. A full system freeze which isn't a blue screen of death is generally because of faulty hardware.. And honestly, Winamp I haven't seen crash computers completely since early Windows Vista days (and thats due to Sonic). So I'm still liable to believing that something dodgy is happening with your hardware too potentially (might be wrong though)

Make sure you are using the latest codecs, because Songbird loads fine in Windows 7, and if its crashing, its probably because you installed ancient codecs, or one of those codec packs (which often include outdated codecs). You may also wish to try to enable safe mode in the quicktime control panel (which helps some people).

Btw, I assume you mean 3GB of RAM, and 1GB of VRam (although video ram isn't relevant). Do you mean exactly 130 music files?
