Hi, just wondering if you knew about this bug.
For some reason "From the tag" is selected for every track by default.

Changing the drop down to "In turn" works for one track, and then the next track goes back to "From the tag".

Any ideas?

You have downloaded file with name that looks like FreeleX-MLyrics-v1.2.11-15-gccbe1bf.zip which have an extension .zip You need to rename file to FreeleX-MLyrics-v1.2.11-15-gccbe1bf.xpi with your file manager and do File - Open in Songbird.

Hello LookingMan!

I have a question :)!
I've just updated SongBird to 1.12.0a (Build2285) and now MLyrics is incompatible with it, I tried downloading the latest v1.12.11-15-gccbe1bf from your updated addon page, changed extension to xpi, and opened with SongBird, but it's giving me an error saying it cannot install the addon because "install script not found. -204"

is there a nightly of MLyrics that's compatible with the latest Songbird? or am I doing something wrong here?

I have a MacOSX v10.5.8.

Thanks :)

Thanks for the update!

The issue is still present though, I tried to install the new update and still got the same error!

When you say "3. Do not forget to change Songbird language to English" does it mean specifically EN-US? Cause mine is set to EN-GB. Could that be the issue? Even though I never had any issues with the language pack before with version 1.10.0b2?

Oops. Github now places all files in a folder and then zipping it. I'll think how to bypass it.

Oh!! Now I see!
A quick workaround, unzipping and then zipping the content of the folder, and changing extensions to xpi solved it, I have the latest MLyrics installed now :)!
But yeah... Maybe you need to find a way to work around Github's weird ways of compression :|!!

Working like a charm now!
THANKS :D!

It's quite difficult to find lyrics for some songs. I suspect the following factors are contributing to the problem:

- Variations in song names. ("Darkness Be My Friend [*]" or "Book of Thel [Live]")
- Variations in album names. (i.e. "Greatest Hits" albums vs original albums)
- Not enough databases.

Proposed fixes:
- Try and use 'search API' of databases to look for variations on song names. Submit "Darkness Be My Friend" and remove instances of anything in brackets and other symbols. (Match only [\w\d]+...)
- If no matches are found, generalize the criteria. If multiple matches are found, have the user select the correct one.
- Include the ability to add more popular lyrics websites. (The ones that show up in search?)

----

Another problem is that MLyrics does not automatically gather lyrics. It does initially at first install, but a while after, it breaks. There should be a menu option for this ("Force search").

OK. I'll add to cut "[...]".
The problem is that not every lyrics site have api and search.
I thought about posibility to let user choose the correct one from search results. I'll try to add this later. Thanks.
As for ability to add more popular web sites: I have a big plans to include some kind of wizard so the user will be able to add lyrics sources himself. When this idea become more clear to me I'll start coding.

MLyrics should automatically gather lyrics at song start if you selected at least one of lyrics sites. Please report with more details and steps to reproduce the problem.

I have changed to Nightingale and have the latest version of MLyrics. Is there a way for the "save lyrics" to be continuous so I do not have to accept for each song? When I load new music I like to get the lyrics and often would leave Songbird playing while I was away to achieve this.

I want some features to be get added in this add-on, these features are:

+ If song has already some text already as a tag then it automatically assumes it as a lyrics without searching for it.
So if MLyrics can recognize that the text it is showing is actually lyrics or not, it will be better.

+ I also want it to gather lost information about song.

+ If these lyrics can be displayed on other softwares.

+ Is it possible anyway to play these lyrics in Mini Player?

Thanks for suggestions.
1. MLyrics already does this. I don't understand suggestion.
2. What kind of lost information?
3. Yes, it can be. I don't use other lyrics software, except eyeD3, so I cannot give examples.
4. Yes, it can be implemented, but I haven't desided how it should look like. Maybe you have an idea?

1. Answered :)

2. I think Shashank is referreing to missing ID3 tag information, MLyrics is about lyrics (hence the name), and adding this capability to the plugin would require LookingMan to write a comlpete taggnig program from scratch and attach it to an existing database! there are lots of 3rd party taggers that can get you lots of missing information including cover art and embed it into your tracks, the best I've tried (and still using) is MusicBrainz Picard.

3. Once you choose to "save lyrics" either automatically or manually through MLyrics, the lyrics will be viewable in all music players that support "Lyrics" or "Unsynched lyrics" tags according to your settings, to count a few, Foobar2000, Windows Media Player and Winamp do support this either natively or through 3rd party plugins.

4. Even though this negates having a "mini player" as a concept, but having it as an option won't hurt I guess :)! Maybe it could simply be a resizeable floating window?

I hope this helps somehow :)!
Thanks,
H.Q.

Hi, I would like to get some tango lyrics but the servers used by mlyrics don't find anything.
I know a server where there are a lot of tango lyrics, just writing in the web browser:

http://www.todotango.com/spanish/Las_...

where title is the name of the tango.
Is it possible to automize thi process in sb? (i don't know how to do)

thank you

Yes, but not now. Such function needs to be implemented in MLyrics for user to be able to add such sites without programming skills. I have this in plans. Thanks for example.
The reason MLyrics don't have it bacause it is a little difficult to implement. But it can be a killer feature.

If this is the site I'm thinking of, I agree - let's not go down that road again. lyricsplugin.com has some serious issues, based on design decisions I disagree with completely.

I am still, several YEARS later, occasionally finding 'lyrics' in my collection consisting of "you need to upgrade to our latest plug-in version" (or words to that effect), 'lyrics' that consist of "this is an awesome site with many lyrics, but your search didn't retrieve any exact matches, would you like to try a different query?" (or words to that effect), etc.

If you are the type of person that sets up a batch of hundreds of songs to retrieve lyrics for, then walks away and does something else while waiting for it to finish, this type of response can be a nightmare. Sometimes too much inept 'help' is worse than no help at all, if you know what I mean...

Hi, I'm not sure if what I'd like to ask is really doable/feasible, but... anyways. Perhaps MLyrics could be made into a standalone app or iTunes plugin, so that it could write lyrics in ID3 v2.3 tags rather than v2.4.
v2.4 makes all the tags go frustratingly screwed on Windows (Media Player, Explorer), and even having them show up properly on iTunes is a chore.

Thanks a lot for the awesome software! In fact, MLyrics is not only the best, but the only project I know on lyrics fetching. ;)

MLyrics uses Songbird's API for writing lyrics, which uses TagLib's API. And according to http://taglib.github.com/ in TagLib 1.8 BETA Release - July 14, 2012 was added Support for writing ID3v2.3 tags. That is why I don't think there is support for ID3v2.4 tags. Are you sure?

What do you mean screwed? Does it look like this bug http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t... ?

Sorry for the very late response.
Well, adding lyrics makes tag fields vanish - usually track number, sometimes cover image or just everything. Resaving tags in mp3tag usually brings them back, but then the lyrics go screwed (no paragraphs).

It's kinda complicated, really.
Thanks a lot.

Some base work on sourceeditor aka Source Creator done. After release of it users will be able to add on their own about 90% of lyrics sites found in the internet. For now only one-stage fetch in development (it bases on url prediction) which should work for sites such as RapGenius. But I think two-stage fetch (which will support sites with search fields) not a problem to implement too. Also the work on integrating it into MLyrics needs to be done.
Now I have some understanding how it should look like. Because of big importance of such feature, MLyrics v2.0 will be released after sourceeditor integration.

Hi, it seems that the lyric source jpopasia does not work. jpopasia supports the song titles and artist names in Japanese and songbird too (In fact, many of the songs in my database and many artists are written in kanji, hiragana and katakana).

Example :
- The song Aitakatta (会いたかった) by AKB48 link jpopasia (http://www.jpopasia.com/group/akb48/v...)

In this case in my database i have the song title "会いたかった" but it does not retrieve the lyric...
Some solution?

Now it work if the name of the song is exactly the same "Aitakatta (会いたかった)" or the romaji part "Aitakatta" is the same. If i have only the japanese part "会いたかった" it seems not to work. If it's not too much to ask, i'd like the search of the japanese part too in a future release.
Thank you very much for the solution!

As I said earlier currently I am working on Source Creator feature which will bring more flexibility to MLyrics. Unfortunately I do not have much time for this now. But this feature will bring more control over the sources to user, so I want to ask you to wait untill it is done (or will be available for beta testing), then together we will deal with jpopasia. Stay in touch.

Any chance you could give us more options in what MLyrics shows? Currently we can show the track name, the artist name, and the album name. It would be nice if it would show the Composer name, for example, in the case of classical and opera tracks. By the way, thank you for a great product.

deadmau5 has a new release, and the title of the album is

> album title goes here <

However, on LyricWiki (my primary go-to and where I personally do any new entries or corrections) they don't allow the greater/less-than characters or some other oddities in page titles (see http://lyrics.wikia.com/LW:PN)

Should MLyrics try to hack around this and strip off certain symbols like that for searching? If I remove the > < from my song's tags it finds it, but I'd rather keep the titles of things correct.

It is strange. According to wikipedia http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadmau5 new Deadmau5 album title is: Album title goes here. But here we can see album title with greater/less-than characters http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/albu...
Also MLyrics doesn't uses album title in searching on lyricwiki. Anyway I've added filtration of <> symbols before fetch from lyricwiki to the new version of MLyrics.

Ah.. I must have been having other issues in thinking it was album title related, thanks for the clarification.

Another issue I'm having is "She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)" by David Guetta matching on lyricwiki, it doesn't want to pull up for me - http://lyrics.wikia.com/David_Guetta:...

I just looked at the request with Wireshark and it looks like it's cutting off the (subtitle) and just requesting "She Wolf" - intentionally I'm sure, to work around things like "(featuring XYZ)" perhaps -- which ironically this track actually is "[feat. Sia]" but LyricWiki has a separate field for that.

I love MLyrics, and it does very well with most of my music, but I do have some problems finding lyrics for soundtracks. For an example, I'll use Defying Gravity from Wicked. MLyrics can't find it on any of the sites, but using the "Web Search" button, I see that azlyrics.com does have the lyrics, but they list the artist as "Idina Menzel" instead of "Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth" which is what the metadata from the CD uses. Other sites list the artist as "Wicked," "Kristin Chenoweth," "Wicked: The Musical," "Musical 'Wicked'," or "Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Ensemble." Many of these sites are sites that MLyrics searches, but I assume it doesn't find a match because the artist is different.

I'm not sure what the solution to this issue would be, but perhaps a way to search only by Title and Album if the search including Artist comes up blank?

Also, while lyrics to Wicked are common and relatively easy to find (disregarding the aforementioned issue), I have some more obscure musicals and soundtracks as well, and the only reliable lyrics site I've found for some of these is stlyrics.com. It might be worth considering adding this to the database.

For everything other than soundtrack lyrics, this is a great plug-in, and a large part of the reason I switched to Songbird. Thank you for your continued efforts in developing this.

Thank you for the info. I'll add stlyrics.com later.
Currently I am developing new feature called "Source Editor". With it many more in editing lyrics sources will be available without knowledge of programming. Just do not forget to check later for the new info here.
