The New "SB" Logo is Really Lame

I like the little round cartoon birds. The black one was good, and I've seen a little orange one singing an eighth note that looks cool too.

I agree. Lame and ugly, both. If the had to go with letters, they could at least have given it some personality, like a treble-clef for the 'S' or something.

I also think the 'new, improved' lighter color scheme is a major step backwards, and not nearly as attractive as previous feathers. (Fortunately, this is easily changed.)

I really don't follow their logic, sometimes.

Agree, the little bird had personality and never failed to draw my eye. The dark theme was excellent and made it feel different. New stuff feels bland and soulless.

Music is supposed to be fun. I understand why some software likes to have that clean, impersonal look. But that's just not Songbird, to me. I don't think anybody is using songbird in the hopes of looking like a professional and I don't think it should be trying to look like that's who it's for. It should be fun and edgy, not dull and corporate.

Not a fan, sorry.

Indeed. The new splash screen is somewhat uncreative and boring. I do miss the black bird for the logo. Maybe the logo could be revised a bit? Maybe add the bird again? Either that or add a little more to the splash screen.
Hopefully it will be changed!

As a new Songbird user this was also slightly irritating to me, especially because I'm on OS X where I have to stare at that icon on the dock the whole time.

Hide your dock, that's what I do. Plus gives you more desktop space.

I agree. The bird icon had so much more personality, and it went well with the Firefox and Thunderbird icons.

Headphone bird was nice having on the dock, now I have a pinkish block which sucks!

Who is running Songbird now anyway?
Hardly ever updated
Still no CD playback when there is Video playback
Changed icon (businesses should never change icons/logo's
And this list goes on...

Some attributes I do like so hopefully the people running this will listen.

How about letting us pick the Icon we see?

This logo is just "wtf happened" on so many levels.
1. It's already been done. Adobe introduced lame blocky icons in 2007. Yes, 5 years ago.
www.hongkiat.com/blog/evolution-of-ph...
It was lame even back then and still is.
2. You can use any form to represent your app. A square block with two letters is of course perfect as a contrast to all other icons but it's still but ugly so let's not do it.
3. The color? Is this an app for girls in kindergarten now? What's with the pink?
4. Anonymity. This icon will never ever make someone shout out "a new app for playing my mysic with, cool!". It will be a fly-by to new users and hated by old users.

Please throw some money at a professional icon artist and make something that will make people say "wow" and get behind this platform. This new icon to me looks like all energy left this software. It looks like we dont care. Here take this pink square and shut up.

Actually, don't spend any money for a professional. You've already got an artist that volunteered his time and energy to brilliant create a set of icons (and other images) that give songbird a real identity. And there's probably a dozen other artists out there willing to do the same.
Community support. That's what free, open source software is all about. And if you ignore the community, then you'll lose that support.

This makes me think that there must be some internal strife at SB, or that the marketing department is trying to copy somebody else. There is really no other reason a company would wreck it's logo in this manner. Heck, I don't even know why I'm so bothered by this, it's just some product, one of many that I use for music. But it's just the thought that some know-it-all probably said "screw the bird logo, we're gonna do something different." Bet you 5 bucks the original artist sure didn't say "screw the bird, let's just do so lame letters and try to copy Adobe's icons".

I still have the songbird shirt from way back when, with the songbird dj spinning some tables in front of a full moon... Love that guy.

I agree, I loved the old bird. It was part of what drew me to the program in the first place. This was a very poor decision.

does anyone know if there's a way to just retrieve the old bird and let them keep their sleek letters elsewhere?

Yeah, you should be able to download a .ico file. Then right click on your songbird shortcut, click properties, click change icon, and change the path to point to the new icon file.

But that doesn't help Android users. You can change your icon and feather on the PC, but you can't change anything on the Android.
