Yes! There are two popular extensions to add support for USB Mass Storage capable players, as well as iPods

The USB Mass Storage extension is Windows-only though. I have a Dell DJ Ditty and run Ubuntu Linux.

A more comprehensive list of which iPods and MTP devices we support has been added to our wiki. We'll continue to update these pages as things change.

What about iPod Touch and Songbird support, not needing to mention Smart Playlists, Party Shuffle and Ringtones?

Check out this thread.. iPod help & STOP button feature problem (request?)
......................Basically for the iPod to work with songbird, I found out that you might have to manually download the iPod addon (http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/12) and install it through songbird's addons... Don't know why this worked manually and not automatically through songbird's inner-program, but it might be a minor bug..........................Reading the addon comments, it sounds like the iTouch & iPhone are still not supported yet (not sure though, since I don't have those iPod models)

Someone missed the mark on this one. I've got Songbird 0.6.1 and MTP 0.8 installed. My songbird doesn't even recognize my phone (N95) is plugged in, even though it appears in my WIndows Media Player device list and in My Computer.

Something funky is going on. Help please!

I've noticed that Songbird even with the MTP add-on won't recognise my iriver clix2.

Will look forward to when the kinks are sorted out though.

Wow. Ok, so here's the official word on device support.

We're working on it.

This wiki page will take you to all the iPod's we know we support and ditto for MTP's.

If your specific device is not supported yet, you can file a bug at bugzilla.songbirdnest.com we can add it to our growing list of devices to support in future releases.

If you don't have a free bugzilla account, signing up is quick and easy and will allow you to share your feedback directly with the development team

As a side note, it is possible for your device to start working through future versions of the MTP addon without us working directly with your device. If device support is a critical issue for you, please check back with Songbird in a future release.

Will there be MTP support for Mac users? I just downloaded ver. 1.0 RC3 and there's no indication of such support. If its in the works, any idea when to expect it?

Hello, I bought my kids an ASUS pc each(linux). They want to know categorically that if they download Songbird for ipod nano 2nd Gen, that it will behave intuitive to itunes. e.g. will start up and allow xfer of tunes from pc to ipod and vice versa. I'm not getting a fuzzy warm feeling from the questions I've seen so far. Neil in Bosham

i have a 16 GB ZEN player from creative -- not the new X-Fi, just the plain old ZEN. it shows up, all my media shows up which is lovely (windows media player doesn't manage that), but nothign will play!

i get an error message saying songbird has encountered a media core error: No URI handler implemented for "x-mtp"

i'm only semi-computer literate, so... i'm not sure what this means, lol. but anyhelp at all will be appreciated! this looks like a great player.

my mp3 player is displayed in "my computer" as a portable hard drive oder something. why cant songbird just put files on it like "drag and drop" does?
why do you have to make specified gateways for every different player?
winamp can do it, too.

btw, i have a creative ZEN nano plus. something like a usb-stick.

Hey I found songbird very helpful and interesting to use. However, I am disappointed with two missing features (maybe its there and I don't knew it). One is that I can't make a Separate playlist folder as I could do in iTunes and another is when I right click on a song from the playlist it has no option to insert an artwork for the song.

Let me know is there is an add on for this features which I would have missed from the list. Or we can't help it ?

@Faiz;

You can change/insert artwork by rightclick >Edit Metadata and then select the proper cover.
Or you can just drag and drop it onto the AlbumArt display pane.

Hey thanks Lenny, however, why don't you people implement a feature of creating a playlist folders in Songbird, it makes it very easy to navigate music through iPod.
