I’m frustrated

"Missing Sample Files" in Sampla and crashing

I finally got around to installing Sampla which I purchased last year through Musicians Friend... Activation was no problem, and I was able to get some sounds happening, but most of the time when I try to "Load File", and choose a .svx file, I get a popup that says "missing sample files were encountered", and it asks if I want to find the missing files. I tried to manually find the files, but cant seem to make it work. Some files still work partially after this happens (ie. ambient kit.svx), but others do not work at all (ie. herbee bass.svx). Other files seem to load with no issue (ie. dub madness.svx) and are fully functional.

Also, the program crashed a couple times while I was running in stand alone mode (haven't yet opened it in a pro tools session)

I am on a Mac Pro with 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon processors, 16 Gigs ram, and running OSX 10.6.8

Any suggestions?

  • Give this a try:

--Click the 'Settings' icon (next to the 'File' icon in the upper-right hand corner).
--Then click 'Change' under 'Sample Content Directory'.
--Navigate to your SONiVOX > SAMPLA folder and select the "Samples” folder then click 'Choose' and 'Ok'.
--Then run 'Fix Config Utility' located in the OS X Applications folder.

Make sure you ran the installation as the administrator in the beginning, to avoid other troubles.

    Let me know.

  • I was running the install as the administrator.
I tried to change the sample content directory, but it still wouldn't work.
I then compared the sample content folder size to that on the install disc, and found that the folder on my hard drive was much smaller.
I removed the folder, and tried to copy it from the disk, but It would never transfer the whole collection of sample content.
Instead, it would begin to transfer, then I would get an alerts like "The finder can't complete the operation because some data in "fst31C42" can not be read or written (error code -36)"

I tried excluding the folder that included the offending file, but then another one in a different file would pop up. (and another, and another........)

I looked at the disk to see if perhaps it was damaged, and didn't see any real issues... but like an idiot, I ran the install disc through my disc polisher which F'd up the disk to the point where the drive will not read it (haven't tried using the polisher in years... though I don't remember it ever killing a disc)

So... finally after house of messing with it, I found an online torrent of the program, and downloaded it. I was able to extract the sample content in order to replace what I couldn't get off the disc, and it seems to be functioning now.

What is the 'fix config utility' by the way?

    Thanks,
    Nate
