How do I get started with using Big Bang?

Installation is succesful and there is a file structure created full of what I assume to midi files in my Applications folder, but there is no App and also no iLok to be found anywhere. This is a download that came with my Akai MPD218. Please help!

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting.

Can you please provide me with your full system specs?

It sounds like the software has actually installed properly. Please keep in mind that the Big Bang software is not a standalone application and that you will need to load the software within a DAW in order for you to use it. First, make sure that you've properly authorized your software using the iLok License Manager. Follow the steps in this guide below that will walk you through how to authorize your software with the iLok License Manager:

After the software has been authorized within the iLok software, you will need to tell your DAW where your plugins are stored on your computer. Assuming you're using the MPC Essentials software, the following steps can be taken to scan your plugins within the software:

Adjusting the MPC Essentials Plugin Sources
      1. Open the Preferences menu.

        Mac:
        Select MPC > Preferences...
or use the keyboard shortcut - [Command + comma]

      2. Choose the Plugins tab.

      3. Add a check to the box at the beginning of one of the rows under the heading VST Folders, then click on the browse box akai mpk2 mpcessentials browse box at the end of that row to browse to your plugin installation location.

      4. Click on the drop-down menu to browse and then select the correct location of your plugin.  Press Open.

      5. Click on Scan New, allow the MPC Essentials software to scan all plugins in the selected location and then press OK.

(VST): Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Plugins > VST

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • hi,
    thanks for the suggestions
I have gotten much further, installed iLok got the plugins to scan etc.
however now I'm stuck on the following:
after having scanned the plugins, I get a pop-up screen asking me to activate big bang drums using license code
I do so, but then cannot open big bang drums anywhere
I have then rescanned plugins, again entered license code but nothing
after a third time, now the application says I have used my license three times already and will not let me enter the application
in short, I still have have not seen the big bang drums app, do not know how to enter and have used 3 (!) licenses when I am only trying to install on one computer
I think I am very close, but would welcome this one last tip: how can I now open big bang drums and start actually using it?
and how I get my licenses back?
    thank you in advance!

  • Please see my response above on how to scan your plugins. If you're having issues with your authorization codes, please contact your nearest Support Office. Their contact information is listed on that page.

  • Personally, I have noticed that this plugin is for people playing a midi drum kit. It comes with no midi grooves at all. Better to go with addictive drums or ezdrummer if you are like me and want a compositional tool. Wish I knew that before buying.
