Items on Springpad Board jump around when dragged

I'm using Chrome 12.0.742.122 on Mac 10.6.8 and have noticed this behavior since about 1-2 weeks ago.

Specifically, I keep a lot of Tasks in the Board for one of my notebooks, and drag them around frequently. Sometimes, when I drop an item after dragging it, it will jump to another location far away, sometimes near the top-left corner of the board. I've noticed that this is especially the case when I drag-drop a task near another task (or on top of another task) so that the two tasks overlap. I can recreate this behavior pretty consistently, and would be happy to send a short screencast depicting the issue.

This isn't a critical bug, but it's definitely something that's changed recently, and it's kind of annoying.

Thanks for looking into it! DR

When I'm on the board I am unable to move objects around it automatically goes to the upper left hand corner of the screen if you keep adding items they all over lap and I am unable to move them around. Please help I'm having this issue on the website using safari. also I noticed that you can view the board from the iPhone app but I saw no options to add or move items?

I didn't have this problem before until 15 mins ago, when I was rearranging the items on my board and they kept piling up on the top left corner... now i can't move them from there.

To the developers--
I'm a professional web developer. I once built a web site that used the same sort of functionality-- the ability to drag and drop and overlap frames, exactly as the Springpad Board is supposed to do.

I never had any problems like this one. The difference is probably that I was using the jQuery framework, and you are using MooTools.

If it was taking me this long to fix a major problem like this, my job would be in jeopardy. Perhaps you should refactor and use jQuery. At this point, it would probably be easier and faster than trying to patch the broken solution you have now.

Yikes, David, disgusted is a bit harsh, no? First of all, I really am sorry that this is taking more time than you expect to fix. I know it's a pain of an issue that is frustrating, since it makes the boards difficult to user.

Here's the skinny: we are working hard to iron out all bugs and manage all feature requests that come in. Since there's more of those than there are of us, we have to prioritize which features/fixes get attention first. I'm going to do my best to cheerlead moving this to the top of the list, ok? In the meantime, give our developers some slack! They're doing an amazing job! :)

Harsh? I don't think so. I think it's reality. As a software developer, I know all about the pressures of deadlines and features. I am also well aware of the pain of dealing with bugs.

I am also well aware that customer satisfaction has to be #1. From the users' point of view, it looks like new features are being placed above user satisfaction over a major long-running bug. I offered both my understanding and a possible solution: refactoring with a different javascript framework. I fully understand the hassle of refactoring, but sometimes it has to be done.

Just don't make the fatal mistake of telling your users that you're not going to fix it, and just take it down!

I agree with David. The board seems to be an essential function of Springpad and should be prioritised over adding more features. It is not "difficult to user" it is unusable! It has been months since it first started and it seems to have got worse and soon I will be looking at other applications. Such a shame as it's a great tool.

Like the new look. But I really wish you folks would get the board view working again. It's broken for a long while.

Same problem here on Mac with Safari (or Firefox). The iPad app also has problems with the board: If I add a new Note to the board (creating a new one), I can enter text but it won't let me save or anything ofter I'm done. It just stays on the screen and I have to manually quit springpad and restart.

AGAIN!!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH SPRINGPAD!! No board, broken code all over the place... crashes, lost data, what gives! I don't see how you cant just fix this, or tell us to go away.... software suicide... Please respond! DITTO on all complaints, as well as compliments.

Springpad has had the best potential of almost anything I have seen out there, and now it is hours away from getting DUMPED! Harsh yes, but Springpad is playing with its users and behaving very, VERY, unprofessionally. I am SHOCKED at the long standing bugs, and complaints. I want to love it, and did actually... now I dont know what to think, and my patience is finished.

When I go to board view, I have some items in the bottom white area of the box on the right. When I click one, it adds it to the top left of the board area. When I try to move it, it just floats right back to upper left area. When I try and add second one, it just gets placed over the previous one in the upper left hand corner.

I tried in Firefox 12, Chrome 19 and Internet Explorer 9. IE said browser doesn't support the board view.

When I add "board" as a navigation method to an existing notebook and add items to the board, they all stack on top of each other. I try to move them around the board but they keep snapping back to being stacked. This is not an issue with NBs where I was already using "board", just existing NBs where I add board and then add items. This is a new problem. Just happened.

OK, now this is happening in existing NBs. When I move a list on my board, it suddenly goes to the upper left corner. I love board view for NBs that have lots of items. I need board view. I love Springpad. I use it to run the 15 projects I am always jumbling that also have shared lists and tasks. I hope you can fix this. I really want to stay with Springpad. Do you have a time frame for fixing board view. I am using Win 7 (32 bit) and Chrome.19.0.1084.52 m. Thanks.

Devin, could you please let us know if this is something that's being worked on, or planned to be implemented. Thanks so much for everything! After the last update, I now use Springpad for anything important. It really organizes and keeps track of my studies. I would love have the board function, especially for large projects.

Seems like this problem has been going on for 11months!
Devin - Is there a timeframe you could give us for a fix?

Please, please don't make me move to pinterest for a board app....
The only issue with pinterest is that all boards are public. Springpad can still compete by allowing boards to be private or shared in select "circles".

For your own good - please update the board function. other than this major issue, springpad is great.

The board was the one major thing that differentiated Springpad from tons of other task managers, but it's been broken for so long...Springpad should make this board bug the top priority, not new features or platforms...because what's the use of letting someone ride a new bike with a flat tire?

Decided the board was not worth the gimmick (even if it worked), and moved back to Evernote.

I'm jumping into this discussion so hopefully I can find out when it's fixed. I have nothing new to add, but whole-heartedly agree with the DISGUST, FRUSTRATION, and HOPE that Springpad will live up to its promise.......

Now I'm off to plan a party the old fashioned way - paper and pencil........

I started a Board in the old version of springpad. Since it's been updated, I can't seem to use it. I can open it and look at what I had posted, but I can't move things around. There is a tab at the top that says "click here to gather things on screen" but it doesn't respond when I click it. I'd like to be able to use my board, but I don;t know how to make it work. Also, it seems there is a limited space on the board, so it won't allow me scroll down if I have a lot of items on the board, insted it wants to gather them all on screen. Suggestions?

Well, I am one of those who cannot wait for Springpad Boards and other issues to get fixed. And yes I am grateful that it is free,. However, maybe I am missing the point, but I thought ultimately they will be selling this on a yearly subscription basis, and we are helping them test. and if all works, I will subscribe. This product has a lot of potential to manage freelance projects and schedules in a way that works not just for me, but for the way many people work. It really could be a way to corral fluid or static projects, large and small, online and across many devices (for me that is 1 desk top, 1 laptop, I Android phone and my Kindle Fire) I am not interested in MS Project or other things. Springpad has the potential to be truly amazing. I say fix the bugs so it works the way it is supposed to, then get it to market.

Devin, what is the ETA on a solution? Days, weeks, months??? I think it would be useful if the users that have posted here could have some further information regarding the status of the problem rather than just stating that you are working on it. It's better to be upfront with people and I would suspect that you will begin to loose users due to them not knowing where they stand with Springpad. Please advise.

Now the board view will not allow me to move items AT ALL. I actually get the slash-thru-circle icon when I attempt to drag items around. I'm a really distractable person, and I count on drag-and-drop to prioritize important tasks.

The board is working for me on the iPad with the last update to the app (3.0.5 yesterday) so I assumed it was fixed on the web app. :-( But no.

Thanks for at least having it working there!

The board is still not working on the ipad for me! if i open a note in board, i am unable to exit the note or access any other areas of springpad. to be honest it was the board feature of spring pad that appealed to me and lead me to choose it over Evernote...now i am in two minds!!
11 months to fix an important part of what was an excellent product leaves me wondering, what will happen in the future with further problems and updates...will it be stable??
