Changing Item Types in Springpad

Can anyone explain to me how to change a "Product" to a "Movie"? It seems like it should be easy, but I cannot find a way to change the categories of notes. Thanks.

Six months ago you said you'd "support it very soon". I use the site very little without this feature because I can't re-organise my info.

Katin, I understand that there are problems with this from a data mapping point of view. However I'd like to make a suggestion: at the very minimum could you please allow the facility to convert from a bookmark to another type? Since a bookmark is quite simple, almost a 'base type', then surely it wouldn't be too difficult to convert that to something else, e.g. a recipe. This way I could convert my Android client bookmarks to something a bit more useful when I get onto the web client. Whilst it's not a complete solution, I think it would satisfy more than half of your users' requirements in this respect.

Fair point, Wayne! As far as Android, our next release will improve the way url's are saved to Springpad (auto-categorize)... So watch out for that.

Also, backup/export is coming in a couple of weeks!

It seems to be a popular request already, and it sounds like you may be working on it already, but I haven't seen an OFFICIAL request. I'm new to Springpad as of today, and with the first recipe I tried to spring, it would only recognize it as a bookmark, regardless of if I highlighted it or not. I found the need to be able to CHANGE THE TYPE later on. That would eliminate the need to manually type out an entry.

Frustration! Spring a song, it is entered as a product, spring a book, it is entered as a product. The list goes on.
Instead of quickly adding things to my springpad, I spend way too much time having to recreate items so they will appear in the right list.Needless to say it would have been much faster to type the names of things I want in a checklist.

Katin - please give just a tiny little hint as to when we might see the improvement with this feature:)

For me, the most important transformation is note->task. I make my todo list by sending various items to myself using email and, since springpad allows only to create notes via mail, I'd love to be able to convert them to tasks. Creating tasks would be a lot better, obviously, but that for whole different thread on this forum.

Springpad team! When can we expect this great feature?

Hey guys - I wanted to let you know that our focus has been on preventing things from being saved as the wrong type in the first place (so we've not yet started work on the feature to move things between types).

In a couple of weeks you'll see an improvement to the way you can save things to Springpad by email. Not only will we try to clip & categorize url's emailed to Springpad, but we will allow you to specific the data type in the email subject. Stay tuned!

Does that mean when I save through email, I can indicate whether I want it to be a task, note, etc.?

OMG.............this will be the most awesomest thing in the world......until you're next big feature.
If this works well, I know this will be used sooo much. And now that you've mentioned trying to clip and categorize a URL... does that mean you can read a recipe from a URL and spring it correctly???
This is like automating all the work for us. Can you guys make this action work for the Right Click menu? Meaning, send URL to springpad and have the voodoo magic of categorizing the URL???

Not sure how I managed this, but somehow my photograph of a book page has appeared as a wine recommendation. How can I reclassify this as either a book, album or general note? I can't find a way of doing this on the website.

This is clearly a burning need because I'm a brand new user with fewer than ten notes and I already want to change a note's category....

Hey Katin,

What's wrong with having multiple types for the same note? That way one could combine notes, add to notes, etc. without having to completely 'remap' the note type.

Also, if someone did want to 'remap'/change a note type, the excess data could just be turned into text by default (with a "Are you sure you want to do this" popup of course).

Thanks for listening to the rant. I love SpringPad already, but can't wait until a few things grow to be more solid.

I have saved a number of "books to read" reminders in Springpad, but I did so (being a newbie) as photo-attached Notes, not Books or Products. I would like to change those to Books, but there seems to be no way to do so, short of emailing/extracting the photos, deleting and re-adding.

Why is this such a gnarly process?

How do I change the type?

Springpad has saved an item which is clearly a movie as type "Product" and two other items which are clearly Restaurants as Type "Place."

No matter how I try saving these items they still adopt these types.

it'd be great if one can change data type between similar items, such as restaurant, bookmark, book, movie...etc

Hi,Katin
Your explanation makes sense. How about adding a inbox collecting some simple words in Springpad, which allows user to determine notes' type later?
