This is easily fixed by adding the following line to your .htaccess file:
RewriteBase /
or,
RewriteBase /the-subfolder-you-are-running-stacey-from
This line should be added near the top, just below:
RewriteEngine on

I'm still having problems, now getting an Error 403 - Forbidden message.

I'm running it like this - http://www.domain.co.uk/stacey

I am having the same problem — I get a 403 Forbidden message. My htaccess looks like this:

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on

# RewriteBase /
ErrorDocument 404 /404.html

If you've updated your .htaccess files and are still getting the same issue, then it sounds like something on your host's end. I would try getting in touch with them and explaining the issue.

Hi I have the same 403 Problem. I tried to also: RewriteBase /stacey
because i have stacey in a subdirectory. What i don't understand: Where do I have to put the .htaccsess file? in the stacey directory or in the main html/ directory?

The .htaccess file should go inside the stacey directory. Also the stacey in your
RewriteBase /stacey
should instead be the name of the subfolder you are running stacey from.

404 CUSTOM PAGE - WORKS .ASPX & NON .ASPX URLS
WORKS ON GODADDY SHARED WINDOWS HOSTING (IIS7 .net4)

Create a 404.html or 404.aspx file on your local main folder in your shared godaddy hosting.

-Web.Config File-

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<configuration>
<system.webServer>
<rewrite>
<rules>
<rule name="Main Rule" stopProcessing="true">
<match url=".*" />
<conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll">
<add input="{REQUEST_FILENAME}" matchType="IsFile" negate="true" />
<add input="{REQUEST_FILENAME}" matchType="IsDirectory" negate="true" />
</conditions>
<action type="Rewrite" url="404.html or 404.aspx" />
</rule>
</rules>
</rewrite>
</system.webServer>
</configuration>
