Michael,
Unfortunately I haven't implimented SD card .puz opening of puzzles. We did add a url feature where you can place your files on a site with a url and then open .puz files from your personal collection. This is a feature we hope to add at some point, but haven't completed it yet.

Okay, I guess it's a workaround to move the files to a URL site. If I put all my puzzles in a single folder, is there a wildcard option that allows me to download, say, all files with name *.puz?

I've uploaded some .puz files to 4shared.com and have been able to download them onto my Nook Color, which uses a version of the Android app. The only hitch is it tells you to wait 20 seconds before downloading the file onto the mobile device, and yet it shows the link immediately. If you do not wait at least 20 seconds, the download will fail.

I'm looking into the issue, not sure what is going on here. Will work on fixing this for the next update.

A direct download from computer would be great! In the meantime, the 4shared solution is working, though slow. I used goo.gl to shorten the link, making it much easier to type in.

Steve,

I'm puzzled (no pun intended) why it's hard to open a file from one's SD card, and that we still need to do backflips with web uploads/downloads to solve puzzles we own. You said 8 months ago that this may be in a future release -- is there still hope of that? How about a wildcard download, if that's not possible?

With the url reader we use the Standalone server the same as all the puzzles provided are parsed. To do it from the SDcard we've got to implement an on device parser. Yes I did mention we'd look into it 8 months ago, but I really haven't heard many new people asking about the issue since either. If it would help a lot of people or is a huge inconvenience for a few then I will move it to the top of the priority list. The impression I got was that for most the url downloader was good enough since I figured you had to get the .puz files from somewhere most often posted on line and I added the url saving list feature so that would make it easier to link the the today.puz of your favorite provider.

Now I can no longer access 4shared.com with my crossword program. I get an error message each time I go to it. It opens fine in the regular browser. Any way to correct this so I can download more from my library?

What is the exact error you are receiving? Please note that, in order to import puzzles from the web, the url must be publicly accessible and not require any confirmation codes or ad-based redirects.

thanks for your quick response!

"web page not available" is the message. It does it for both the primary web site, and the public folder I set up for myself. It works fine from the regular nook browser.

The folder I set up has no log ins--I just have to know the web address to get to it. It worked great for about a week, and now I get the error messages.

many thanks!

I just saw a note about your server issue on October 5. That's about the time the page quit working for me--wonder if it's somehow related.

Can you email us a few links to puzzles in your public folder, so we can test the issue? Feel free to send them to sales@standalone.com.
