Website Load times have become too long.

For the last couple of months (lets say late November-ish, 2010) the web site has been painfully slow to load, particularly the dashboard. I'm using a stock Windows 7/IE-8 32-bit setup, and have been for some time. Is this related to the number of people I follow (I'll cut back) or something else I can influence?

We have noticed slowness issues as well. Part of it does come from the number of people you follow. If you are following a lot of people, then it has to check for that many more updates in the database, and depending on how active those people are, it could be a lot of information.

However, there are also a number of things we have identified that we could do to increase the overall speed of the site. Steepster was originally built/architected to handle a relatively low amount of traffic (we wanted to keep it small and focused at first). But last time we checked, we has tracked over 500 trillion pieces of activity, a little more than we anticipated for!

Either way, we hear what you're saying and have noticed the issues as well. We'll hopefully have a chance to come back soon and make some optimizations, especially if it continues to get slower.

The "Right Now On Steepster" scroll of recent activity takes minutes to load for me.

This is still a problem. If anything it's getting worse.

I am new to Steepster and the load times are SLOW!!! I am not following anyone, and everytime I click to move to another page it just sits there forever. And so I leave. I really appreciate being able to see reviews to teas I want to try but am looking for another site that doesn't take forever.

Sorry for the problems Shannon. Are there any specific pages that are going slow or just all of them in general?

Not too long ago we made some updates to the site, so everything should be moving a lot faster now and there should be few errors. Enjoy!
